okay no wait this is actually a really amazing analysis because drunk-dazed is literally the song to get me back into kpop proper again after 10 years of being out. there's just something so hypnotic about that's kind of like a foothold in the door for the entire genre (and it being in -- probably -- f minor key, which in itself is a rather lesser appreciated key, really gives it that strange fever dream feeling about it against the thrumming percussion)

me too, was out for nearly 2 years, very tired of kpop n looped drunk-dazed once it came out. amazing song, really is hypnotic. sometimes, i do fear that once a genre/style enters kpop it could get overdone like fast drums and afrobeat but.. drunk-dazed remains unique among the "darker" kpop songs. no other song gives me that feeling and back then i didn't and i still don't listen to enhypen frequently.

Thought abt how ppl were eating their concept because lots love vampires, then I remember some grps or idols who did the same concept but isn't getting the same hype as this, there I thought the people who are doing the concept plays a big role in this matter. Enhypen do ATE the concept.

The MV itself ends up being referenced in the Dark Moon webcomic as well, which ties into the overall lore of the group. Looking back at it now as the webcomic seems to be gearing up for its endgame, there's some background lore dump into the characters in this MV in particular.

I remember listening to Drunk-dazed for the first time and being like "they did not just make a song that makes me feel drunk". I was actually surprised that so many people liked it because at the time I felt like I was "the only one" who didn't get tired of this kind of sound, but turns out it wasn't just me but they actually did put crack or sth into this song. I was super hyped when tamed-dashed somewhat continued this type of sound, like, I thought Enhypen was about to be my ult 4th gen boy group... But well... Then blessed-cursed happened and I was just like "oh...oh ok :'(" (only now with their dark blood release did I kind of get back into their discography)

After Drunk-Dazed Enhypen became my favourite 4th gen group, but then they dropped Pass the mic so I liked Stray Kids and Aespa more. But they came back with Bite me. Hope they release more songs like that.

I liked Given-Taken, Drunk-Dazed.. but, Future Perfect (Pass the Mic) made me like Enhypen much more and made them my ult .. that was the “it” song I needed from them (for myself)… Bite Me and the whole Dark Blood took that position now though..

@@vixxexo6855 Pass the mic is my favorite enha song and got me in to the fandom but man do I absolutely love drunk-dazed and tamed-dashed. I think that's why they are so great, they keep changing it up and pulling is in one by one regardless of our music taste. And once you are in you will check the next comeback and if that one didn't get you it is guaranteed the one after will suck you back in.

even after 2 years, i still listen to it in such. focus. i'd pay millions to listen to drunk-dazed for the first time again. i mean the flashing lights, the music video, the overall vibe of the sound of music in it pulled me in an addiction. i love some new songs like cake (kard), sacrifice (enhypen), sugar rush ride (txt) and pretty much the whole 5-star album but none of them make me feel like i did when i heard drunk-dazed. it's like i actually get drunk off the music

i did listen to blackpink in 2018/2019 but drunk-dazed was definitely one of the songs that got me into kpop again around 2021, perhaps that's why i prefer bgs (also i feel like some concepts like these are fit for boy groups a lot more than girl)

Ahhh the floating in a tank of water while the party goes around is a perfect analogy!! Drunk Dazed is the song that got me into Enhypen's music/lore and I'm still obsessed with their execution of the hypnotic/dark aesthetic. It truly is also elegant and beautiful and that brings such magic to it.

The really cool thing about the key, is that the verses are in F major and then the chorus switched it to minor! The bassline doesn’t move, but it never touches the third (in this case the major 3rd A in the verses and the minor 3rd G# in the chorus) so it can stay consistent throughout the song without affecting the melody! In the vers they sing the A over the bassline and in the chorus they sing the G# which is what helps switch between major and minor. It’s reeeaaallly satisfying for music nerds haha, and it’s what makes it so mystical and almost eerie! Another song that does this is Jimins solo “Lie” from wings! It goes from a F#m vers into an F# major chorus where the word “lie” ends up on the major 3rd Bb!

i love enhypen SO much because i feel like they are the ONLY boy group that i actually enjoy every songs. For me, they DON'T have a skip album, it's everything so good. That's why they are my favorite group in kpop. And somehow their songs are something else from everything i've ever heard in my life, their music keeps me interested all the time, there isn't a minute of the song that I find bad or boring, and somehow their music makes me feel drunk or hypnotized? They really are very talented, and they deserve much more fame and admiration. love them forever.

im so tired of kpop boy groups that only make noise music, music that just feels like its only good when youre gonna do a workout. But like enhypen, their discography can be listened to at anytime even when you're studying, its amazing. I think theyre the top boy groups in kpop right now even for kpop fans that only like girl groups. Theyre different.

i think for me it was because it sounded hypnotizing?? in the chorus and when heeseung sings it idk if its just me but i can hear kind of like a distortion in his voice when he sings "replay play play" and jungwons voice just has a rly unique tone to me so the melody was really hypnotizing.... like.... i listened to this on loop for 2 hours on a daily basis without a problem

just a bit of a tmi but they mentioned this in the article (im pretty sure i wouldnt be able to explain this clearly but here's a bit of what they said) that ever since they removed the hypen/dash on their title tracks, they purposely dont add bridges to their TTs because in a way, it signifies that they lost that ... basically its all still part of their storyline so if they start adding the bridge again it means that they've found what was missing and will most likely bring back the title track with hypens.

With Taemin's release of 'Move', I think a new category of a kpop song was really solidified--gritty elegance. Most of Taemin's solo works falls in this category and it is probably my favorite style of kpop music these days. Few artists make this type of music and usually isn't as balanced as Taemin's solo work, which isn't a bad thing! IVE's 'love dive' leans more elegant and Taemin's own 'advice' leans more gritty, for example. Enhypen though captures "gritty elegance" really really well, as you can see with 'given-taken'. I would also categorize 'drunk-dazed' as pretty well balanced "gritty elegance" with a heaping scoop of dance pop which gives it just such an amazing hook that feels so classic kpop. I consider myself an "old" kpop fan now so I don't really follow many groups except for a select few, but for a newer group (particularly a 4th gen boy group), Enhypen's music usually excites me and I try to take a listen once I find out they released something.

Aside from TWICE, i was really not so into kpop anymore in 2021, but somehow i listened to this little "Can't control my body, dazed, dazed, dazed" somewhere and i felt the need to catch up the 4th gen and especially this song. I watched I-Land, devoured all their choreography videos, and now Enhypen is the boygroup i listen the most, they are really unique and full of charms.

I remember watching Given-Taken when it first aired and thinking it was really good so I kept an eye on Enhypen, but when I first listened to Drunk-Dazed I swear my life was changed aha! It was the song that made me an Engene and focus exclusively on them! I've read some comments saying they don't like Blessed-Cursed or Pass The MIC as much as their early realeases and even though I can understand, I also think it's very cool to see a huge range of what they are capable of and that they can explore different styles (while keeping that Enhypen touch to it) but I'm so happy with Bite Me (and Dark Blood in general) bc I feel like they came back to their roots while adding what they've learned along the way!

This is such a great analysis on why Drunk-Dazed became so popular. Loved it Also Drunk-Dazed is from psychedelic rock genre, something very new to K-pop back in 2021. I wasn't an Engene back then but I remember watching it on TV and I was really impressed. Similarly how Enhypen brought Chicago drill music to K-pop via Future Perfect last year. They're really like trend setters

i remember yt recommended this while i was studying listening to music. i was not listening to kpop at the time and then BOOM i played drunk-dazed. it was absolutely amazing, even if it was at a lower volume than how i listen to it now. INSANELY GOOD. it’s so addicting and alluring that you just want to drown yourself into the music.

I got into EN- in Jan 2022 and when I saw this song's charting on Melon, I thought it didn't do well. Until later on I found out that Drunk Dazed was super popular on Tiktok & many ppl (I came across by chance) said they didn't stan EN- or know them well but they really like Drunk Dazed (& Fever). I feel so proud of them, whenever I listen to this song I feel like in a daze. The music video itself is also very good.

I loved Drunk Dazed. I did not like KPOP or was in KPOP when i was listening to Drunk Dazed. Yet it made me so obsessed with it. I cant say it's the song that got me in KPOP because Pink Venom by Blackpink was where i started listening to KPOP. After my BP phase ended, i was crazy of Enhypen. Added all their song. Still wouldn't call myself stanning them. Till their "Dark Blood" album came out. Imo, you cant say "i was a fan and stop when they release Future Perfect (Pass The Mic) or Blessed Cursed. " This is because, Drunk Dazed is NOT their concept. You shouldnt expect all their song to sound the same after Drunk-Dazed and Tamed-Dashed. It's like me liking Set Me Free by Twice but their other song just didnt get me. You also can't say it's bad. Because its just preference and taste.

On my first listening to Drunk-Dazed before stanning Enhypen, i used to skip it cuz a hype-up-energy kind of song is not really my taste. Until i discovered Fever, i was obsessed with Fever to the point i started to digging in Enhypen and their songs. I realized Drunk-Dazed is not bad at all. Fun fact, there's another Hybe group formed through a survival show: &Team! In fact, the 4 original debut members of &Team (formed on &Audition) were first on I-Land, most notably K. If you like Enhypen, their vampire concept, and webtoon, you'd probably like &Team because they debuted with a werewolf concept and are meant to exist in the same universe as Enhypen.

what I typically love about Drunk dazed is...The concept is addicting. Like the Overall feel you get while listening to the song makes you feel..DRUNK DAZED! The vocals?? Omg it was BLESSED! THE AUTO TUNE WAS beautiful. And blend was celestial. I loved it. The beating was Basically Beating. it has my head dancing and my head.... Buzzing AND FEVER was my addition for ever. Like the flow of Fever was calm and still ADDICTING.😊

Just wanna say, for the Background section, some corrections: Enhypen isn’t the only HYBE group formed from a survival show. Their brother group, &Team, was formed in the show &Audition: The Howling, which aired on UKposts and a TV channel in Japan, which is why it flew under the radar. It includes 4 members who were previously on I-LAND and didn’t debut in Enhypen. Additionally, you call Enhypen a BigHit group (1:31) but this was around the time that HYBE was consolidating, and Enhypen debuted under BeLift, a label under HYBE. The only groups under the BigHit label currently are BTS and TXT. &Team is under HYBE Labels Japan. 👍🏻

Enhypen was a Big Hit group for a couple of months, as they debuted before the consolidation. It was Big Hit Labels (future HYBE), though, not Big Hit Entertainment.

So, for a short time, Seventeen, Gfriend, Enhypen, BTS and TXT were all Big Hit (Labels) groups, with the latter two being also Big Hit (Entertainment) groups. And later the change happened, so all these groups became HYBE groups.

The way you described fever and drunk-dazed was just oomph(?) . It hit. Also the whole thing with the pause and sledge hammer that you talked about also amazingly described. I didn't like drunk dazed when it first came out but then I listen to it during tamed-dashed era and I'm just blown apart. I felt like I missed out on soooo much with not giving drunk-dazed a second chance when it came out but just immediately moving onto fever.

So like. I was a huge ARMY back in 2021. Every time I got into another group (which was few but still), it wouldn't really stick. So them my friend and I decided to get into ENHYPEN together. I watched I-Land (in May 2021) and then (and I've got the exact date documented) I listened to Drunk-Dazed May 7th. And I have not stopped listening to it since. They're now my ult group and I've enjoyed literally EVERY comeback they've had since, especially Blessed-Cursed, Future Perfect and now Bite Me. They're called "future of kpop" and I believe that because Drunk-Dazed has been my alarm and my ringtone and I still play it on loop TT

I remember seeing a video about why songs (in general) were written in major keys with the occasional minor/major key change a while back. From what I remember, it was on those info channels (like Vice and Vox) and mentioned that there were few songs written in minor keys cause it is harder to write a whole in minor keys than in major keys.

great video presentation! i also noticed that in the bridge every other bass drum is on the off-beat. so while the bridge is less chaotic and much more empty, it still retains some of that "not-quite-right-in-the-head" feel.

Literally agree with everything you said, and not to mention the crazy choreography, espcially when they get on the floor, which I think really added to that section of the song and the overall 'drunk at a party' kind of concept!!

I love the drowned vocal effects, the full chorus and the outro…I want to kiss whoever composed this inmersive song…(The MV is fantastic and the choreography is so fitting to the whole atmosphere. What else could you ask for )

One thing about the background section, HYBE has two other survival show groups! The first is fromis_9, who’s show was Idol School, and the second is &team, who’s show was &audition! &team is also a Jpop group :)

When D-D and Fever dropped, I doubted that they would ever be able to top them; to be honest, I don't think their catchiness/replayability/vibes CAN be matched or really topped. They're truly one (two?) of a kind, and everything aligned perfectly for them to hit the way they did (and still do). I feel bad for Tamed-Dashed, as it was kind of a letdown from the high that D-D/Fever left everyone on, but it's still a good song in its own right; they were hard acts to follow for sure. I think the closest they've gotten to emulating the catchiness and duo vibe is with Bite Me and Sacrifice (Eat Me Up). Maybe it's just me, but the conjunction of these two songs made me feel like they were attempting to recreate the same vibes D-D/Fever have (catchy title track paired with a more sensual/darker/slower promoted b-side).

Also I'm just a massive fan of the entire Border: Carnival album, and I legitimately could not get Fever off my Spotify top tracks for 10 MONTHS STRAIGHT. So yeah, obviously D-D/Fever aren't everyone's cup of tea, but my gosh they are iconic.

I think Bite Me is entirely different. Actually the song was written & produced by Cirkut - a hitmaker in US music market who has never worked with any other kpop until EN-. But yeah Border:Carnival is so special in its own way. & I actually prefer Chaconne to Sacrifice 😂

Drunk-dazed is a kpop classic It's THAT good like it had non-kpop stans tuning in and stanning them. The song, the concept, the choreo and most importantly the members executing all this perfectly played into the song's success and ntm fever, a viral hit. Idk doing this for your first comeback is insanity. I just love ENHYPEN.

I’m so happy to find someone on yt who makes these kinds of videos, it’s so interesting. and you ult ateez! I love enhypen, and this analysis is so spot on. it still amazes me that they debuted with such flawless songs and then just spiraled to releases like future perfect…it looks like they’re starting to bring their quality back up with bite me but we’re not quite there yet 😬 I wasn’t a kpop fan yet in early 2021 so the backstory you provided was very insightful. although I really love a lot of the songs you listed 😅 (as a fellow ateez stan, you didn’t have to do fireworks like that 😭). I think after drunk dazed, boy groups went on to release some really good stuff in 2021. I mean txt went on to release the best song in existence! anyways, gonna go binge the rest of your vids now 😁

This was such an interest and well put together analysis video! I completely agree with all of your points, and I think Jungwon’s voice especially enhanced the song so much. I’d be interested in hearing your thoughts about ZB1, that you briefly showed at the start of your video, on how unbelievably successful they’ve been during their debut and how being formed from their survival show Boys Planet caused it.

Such a good video! Drunk-Dazed is my favorite Enhypen song to this day! Ps. Hybe Labels Japan boygroup &Team (Enhypens brother group) was also born from a survival show &audition. They debuted in december 2022 and are criminally underrated. I really reccommend checking them out. Half of them are also from I-Land like Enhypen.

Some people are describing it as feeling drunk. But for me that sing felt like the mental confusion during a depressive episode. And during my episodes i would often play it. Maybe its because i know that what feels like and i haven't been drunk before
