Vet Talks - Let's PAWS for a minute - Chiari Malformation! Why is my Cavalier King Charles Spaniel scratching the air/neck/ear/belly/neurologic signs???
"Vet Talks: Let's PAWS for a minute" is an abbreviated informal discussion on a specific topic of the week that I encountered, my practice at TrueCare for pets located in Studio City, Los Angeles, California.
This episode is in regards to a neurologic condition called Chiari-Like malformation (CLM) for all of you Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (CKCS) breeders and owners out there. This is sweet little "Lola", a CKCS who may be exhibiting signs of CLM.
Here is the Long Island Veterinary Specialists website: www.caninechiariinstitute.org. Please help out their cause and tell them you referred by this channel.
"Lola's" picture is courtesy of the Grant parents at ContestChampion. Check out his page: ukposts.info/the/V1noun70uHuPPkSNzL5qag.html

Hello my name is Aayushi. I like your video very much. I have puppy and she is 5 months olds. She is a Cavalier Kings Charles Spain. I have seen so many videos and this breed has so many health issues because of their head shape. I didn't know there were so many health problems with this breed. Now I am doing a lot of research and I am scared. She also had a seizure and I see some syptoms of Chiari and Syringomyelia. What would you recommend. My dog parents have no medical issues. I am really scared because I am in a foreign country and its my firs dog. It would be great help if you can suggest something. Thanks alot

Screening for the common conditions associated with this breed is the best way. If you ever travel to the USA, I suggest setting up testing with Long Island Veterinary Specialists on Long Island, NY!

My cavie had neck pain for two days , so they treated him with anti inflammatory and gabapentin . He’s back to normal now , but does occasionally scratch , - not in pain - even if on meds . I wonder if that’s normal

This condition has a lot of individual variation. Not every pet needs surgery but the pros and cons of surgery need to be weighed for your pet's individual case.
