The movie business has a reputation for being recession-proof. Even when the economy’s in a downturn, people want entertainment. But with the coronavirus pandemic ravaging the U.S. and the world, movie theaters are in panic mode seven months into the coronavirus pandemic. Big movie theater chains, AMC and Regal Cinemas, reopened their theaters to the public back in late August. But with several blockbuster movies pushed back to Christmas or to 2021, movie theater chains are shutting down across the U.S. and the United Kingdom for the second time. With the movie business competing with popular streaming services like Netflix, Disney+ and Apple+, is this the end of the movie theater business as we know it? Here’s what the movie business looks like during a pandemic, and what it will look like in the future.

what he did doesn't make a lot of sense to me. taking a layover would greatly increase the amount of time in an unsafe public indoor setting which would mean more mandatory mask wearing and more time with no food or drink. It gets rough when u can't eat or drink for 8+ hours. Thank god you don't need to take off your n95 mask to use the bathroom.

Growing up, I didn't go to the movie theaters alot with my parents. This was from 1999-2013. I think AMC was what we went to. From 2014 to now as an adult, I still go to the movie theaters. IBecause of the experience itself. My choice is Regals. I moved a few times (military) Waterford, CT, Poulsbo, WA and Virginia Beach, VA and the crowds of my chosen Regals weren't bad at all. Most movies I watch in theaters are superhero movies (DC/Marvel Comics), Sci-Fi (i.e. Star Wars), Spy movies (i.e. Mission Impossible, Kingsman, James Bond), Animation (i.e. Pixar, Dreamworks), and any other particular movies.

I think we may find over the next 10 years home owners if possible may convert their double garage into a home cinema. A double garage is a fairly good sized home theatre for the family + friends, extended family. And if possible if space allows, in front of the newly converted double garage a new carport with the old existing garage door, that came off the garage which was cladded. With streaming movies to video games, sports events, even paying for live sold out music concerts events which isn’t a thing yet which should be soon enough and so much more, the home cinema/ theatre will became ever more popular as this decade rolls on.

Build more drive ins and this time don't tear them down. There's likely to be more pandemics. If you're going to stay streaming, then come with a good consumer projection device (blank walls can be used as a makeshift screen). The major chain here has totally shut down for good :/

Why doesn't the FILM INDUSTRY step up to support these theaters? We've now seen how THEIR OWN sales plunged for their "improv" efforts at streaming releases of films online. Their fates (film indust & movie theaters) are inextricably linked! Do they understand that without these theaters surviving long enough to actually show their big budget films what/where/when/how can the top major film giants (Disney/WB etc) ever even hope to launch a comeback? Not to mention THE FILM CORPORATIONS have boutique access to the banks' fire hydrant spray of free fed backed, 0 interest loans atm. & Theaters are probably over leveraged, & deemed not fit (eye roll) for the total wave of free fed $

Everybody will, US will be no exception. Humanity will once again rise, But there is one problem---- 1)--- Distribution of vaccines is hard in US becaus the president himself thinks that COVID-19 is a "Hoax" : ( 2)--- A vaccine in US will most probably cost $4000, Hence, no vaccines to poor: ( 3)--- Anti-vaxxers will brake into hospitals destroying vaccines, even if they do not go this far, they will simply not vaccinate themselves. These people hence, will continue to the host for viruses and this virus will thus, prevail in the US : ( There are more problems, But don't wanna scare you. If you somehow overcome these challenges; Then only US can eradicate COVID-19 in future. "Hello" , I am from India, the second worst affected country from COVID-19, My country has a lot of problems too, But our death rate is low and cases are decreasing day-by-day. USA, Overcame it's challeges than can easily eradicate this virus. Come on guys, you have a lot of money and education, use it.

I have personally been to two drive-in theaters in the past two months, Pueblo, Colorado and Mountain View, Arkansas. Both were doing very well. There are still plenty of old, shut-down drive-ins that won't take a lot of reconditioning to open back up. The age of the drive-in theater... is returning!

If they were smart they could but they are not. Streaming digitally has been available for well over ten years. It was a premiere service only available to the rich and celebrities. During this pandemic they should have quickly adjusted and would have had a golden opportunity to make money during a period where people had nothing to do during lock downs. You see it now a little to where it goes to streaming services but they are charging way to much. $30 to see Mulan? That's even more if we had gone to the theater. It needs to be $5 - $10 no more.
@jeremygibbs7342
@jeremygibbs7342 3 роки тому
It's not a question of intelligence but of money and consumer interests. A lot of people, myself included enjoy certain movies on the big screen over home viewing. While$30 may sound expensive, if you have more than 2 people viewing it from one purchase you've at least broken even if paid less than you would at the theatre
@martinreinders6870
@martinreinders6870 3 роки тому
If they charge like $10, they don't earn that much in total. It's economics: how many people use 1 account in the same household (families particularly), how much would they normally pay for the cinema and do they want to pay this fee for it? I guess it was. And I just wait till December.

Not that much of a movie goer myself - When I got my SONY KD-77A1 I jokingly took a photo of a white screen of it while in the dark in my usual 3m viewing distance and when I visited my local cinema for a movie shortly after and sitting in my usual 9-11 ( 9th row, 11th seat ) position I again took a photo of a brightly lit screen shown before the movie started to compare the FOV and to my surprise they were indistinguishable from each other when I overlayed them over each other in Photoshop... Yea... Not everyone has a 77" TV but then you just decrease the viewing distance and you're back to the same FOV soo... Why people want to go to the movies where your neighbor keeps loudly chewing on Doritos or keeps talking with his/her neighbor is kinda a mystery to me...

Just upgraded my home theater system. I long stopped going to the movies (too much of a rip-off), even before covid-19. I always prefer the option to pause, rewind or watch at a time of my choosing with the only annoyance coming from my wife asking me to explain what just happened in the movie. A same day streaming rental of ~$14 is perfectly ok with me for 4k movies. I hope the studios wise up and distribute simultaneously to theaters and streaming (VOD) providers.

Find me a 4k 3d tv & its a wrap.

Cinemas and film production companies need to work together and innovate the cinema industry. Cinema isnt dying. If I was part of the board - I would suggest offering a monthly membership which people can just walk in and watch new releases. Charge in tiers to combine with seat & food package deals. Keep each cinema room going by playing re runs of old top films and pair them with a sweet hospitality deal for all pricing tiers.. Cinema only offers like celebs paying a visit for signing, needs more immersion in the building itself. Id get awesome props and deck it out according to the premiere theme
