Hey, just a heads up to anyone who may need to know; do not use tampons as a replacement for bandages. Do not stick a tampon in a bullet wound. They are absorbant, and meant to pull blood OUT, not keep it in. They leave behind small particules of cotton behind, and that is an excellent bed for infection.

Just because they are throwing their worst and oldest soldiers and tech into the maul of the Ukrainians, doesn't mean they don't have Major Mechanized capabilities. Don't let yourself be fooled into think that the people who beat Hitler at his own game, are anything else than formidable. They threw their entire population and capabilties at the Wermacht and took back a dozen countries from the Nazis, we sent 8 million troops from 12 differebt countries to France and barely manged to win. They lost 3x more people than we even sent to war in Europe. And they did it with a completely destroyed country. It takes 22 support troops for every warfighter in the west, in russia it is 3/1... On the topic of corruption in the Russian military. Due to the nation’s size, the military is split into various districts, each with its own autonomous governance of their districts’ military branches. Each district is responsible for providing and equipping their branches. Corrupt officials often pocketed large sums of money allocated by the federal government for supplying the military. What we’ve seen in Ukraine is troops pulled from poorer regions of Russia, where corruption is entirely unchecked vs somewhat. There are some Russian troops with little to no suitable equipment because of this, and on the other hand there are some who are fully kitted out in comparison. Considering most officials are just as bad as each other, money allocated by the federal government to ‘modernise and invest in the military’, has instead been spent on yachts and stocks in oil enterprises. They’re all guilty of greed in varying capacities, so no one official can take the high ground and point the finger, or there’d be no one left to govern the districts. Now the country is trying to adapt and ‘fix’ these decades-long military inadequacies due to underfunding. And that is Russia.

In reference to the block of wood at 0:03 That was not issued to a Russian soldier. That footage was recorded just after the Russians were forced to retreat from around Kyiv. It was a decoy to take up time and energy of EOD teams. In that same video a bomb is found inside of a rations box left in a civilian home. Many people were killed when they returned to their homes as a result of booby traps set by retreating Russian troops. Many objects were deliberately left behind that appeared to be explosive devices but were actually just decoys, as I said, to waste the time of EOD teams because they have to carefully examine objects that could be explosives before they can confirm whether they are or not.

This reminds me a lot about China's defeat in the 1895 Battle of the Yellow Sea. The Chinese Government - under European advisers - spent a sizable amount to create a modern Navy, centered around several British and French designed warships and a local arsenal capable of making modern naval ammunition. Corruption ensured that only a few of the warships were actually built - without adequate armour-plate - and that the crew were very poorly trained. The Chinese "officers" gained their positions through influence, and never bothered acquiring any knowledge of the naval arts, the only capable crew being a handful of European contractors (mostly British and Scots) who were "kept out of the loop" regarding their own ships. When called on to fight the Japanese, it was discovered that the propellant charges and explosive shells were filled with sand , and the European manufactured armour piercing munitions were in such a poor state that most were useless. At least I understand in the subsequent disaster, the Japanese did pick up survivors...

Okay, I need to put to rest this idea behind using tampons to stop bleeding from bullet hole wounds. I used to be a Registered Nurse (RN) for 18+ years until my back gave out. I carry a trauma bag in my truck at all times in case I should come upon an accident. And in every first aid kit I have ever bought I place a box of tampons and a box of maxi pads in them because both are super effective at helping clean up wounds and stop bullet holes or stab wounds from causing you to bleed out! Now, should it be the only thing in your first aid kit? No, but if you need to stop bleeding super quick, tampons and pads are a helpful way to go!

Excellent video. My experience in the USAF mirrors the theme here. Maintenance and training were costly, but our military and civilian leaders ensured that we were prepared and equipped for real battle. When I see "experts" complain about the amount of tax dollars invested in our national defense, I wonder if they ever flew an F-15 or used night vision goggles or stood next to another soldier trusting they both had the skills necessary to fight effectively together. For every hour of flight an F-16 requires 17 manhours of maintenance. An F-22 needs 30 to 40 manhours. An F-15C costs $23,000 per flight hour while the F-35 costs $28,000 per flight hour. The cost to train a fighter pilot in those airframes runs between $5 and $11 million per pilot. So, owning a $2 million dollar Steinway doesn't mean much if your piano is out of tune and the pianist never had lessons.

I would think that most people who said that too much money was invest into military didn't think that the cost of training and maintenance was cheap. But rather, in a peaceful world, why bother investing so much money into something that is not going to be use while some other problem are being left unsolved like climate change. However, the war between Russian and Ukraine proved that those money were not wasted after all.

@@broccolidiego2053 indeed, the biggest reason people use to complain about the amount of money we use on our military is by comparing the amount we spend in comparison to other countries and claiming that we can cut back "if only" and then invest that money into something that creates more US debt than we already have. Due to the lack of global news in the US, it's very rare for anyone to even be aware of ongoing or potential conflicts, nor how they might affect our everyday lives.

The russians attacked at the worst possible time, when they could really only use the roads, they didn't tell their soldiers they were going into a full blown war, they even downplayed, underestimated or just flat out didn't know the situation the troops would be facing, so those early convoys from belarus towards Kyiv were travelling in a sort of "parade" style which made it very easy for small teams using ATV's, NLAW/Javilin to hit the front and rear vehicles and bog the russians down for hours, days even. More and more this picture is coming into view of the russians just being generally stupid and ill prepared for what they were undertaking, whole thing is rotten from top to bottom.

Captured documents and frequency schedules to D+15 don't necessarily by themselves indicate a short plan. These could reflect a rolling '2 week plan' which each ground unit is operating to, but which is continually updated. I do think the 'optimistic' march time-table and presence of civil control elements near the head of the primary march columns aimed at Kyiv showed an assumption of nothing more than an administrative movement and show of irresistible force.

Correction about anti-tank weapons: the Javelin is not an anti-tank weapon. It is meant to kill light vehicles, trucks, and infantry positions. It’s not meant to even be effective against tanks. It came out only three years after the fall of the Soviet Union and has proven highly effective against Cold War tanks. Which indicates that the USSR’s military was just as out-matched by the US as the Russian Federation is. Or, well, not to that extreme, but you get my point.
