Starship and SuperHeavy development continue, there hasn't been any more test flights of Starship as they have decided to move on to testing the booster and putting Starship into orbit.

I've been watching SpaceX since they were blowing up Falcon 1s on Omelek Island. If Starship will have some kind of on board recondenser for the propellants it would be pretty easy to just drain a bit out of its hot high pressure part and store it away.

Fascinating... it wasn't until just now, watching this video, that I realized something. This video made Starship and its heavy booster seem much more real than ever before. I mean, I know it exists, that it's done test flights, etc... but the idea that it's going to do a more-or-less orbital flight (I'm guessing the difference in dV between that 3/4 orbit and full LEO is on order of a couple hundred m/s) made it seem like this crazy thing Elon has been building might actually _work!_ And that made me realize that until today, some part of me didn't think it would, that it was a really cool idea that would ultimately prove impossible, or flop somehow. I had no idea I didn't believe in Starship until, suddenly, today, I found myself _surprised_ to start believing in it. Fascinating!

I was hoping for this too but its the new tesla roadster and then they have to do the spacex package. They are working on the new roadster, but its prolly behind the 25K car, and the tesla semi, to be honest. What they did with the latest model S was make it the fastest production car on the planet... so why would they one up their own car, and drop a Billion dollars on a whole new car and a billion on RCS thrusters
@jameshughes3014
@jameshughes3014 2 роки тому
@@davidanalyst671 I don't think it would take billions, millions maybe, but probably not that much. The cold thrust RCS they already have . As for why would they? For the fun of it. If anyone will ever do it it's musk.. I mean the guy launched a car to space. Here's hoping
@NNFaNRacing

@@jameshughes3014 I could see them doing a one off prototype with RCS thrusters but it probably won't be road legal, or anything you can buy. The shape of a car's headlights has to conform to pedestrian safety regulations, now imagine stuffing a tank of rocket fuel in a car.
@jameshughes3014
@jameshughes3014 2 роки тому
@@NNFaNRacing I suspect that if its done, they'd just say "only use the rockets when you're not on the road', kind of like cars with other fancy addons. as for rocket fuel, I think the RCS thrusters they were talking about use Nitrogen, it's not that scary
@davidanalyst671
@davidanalyst671 2 роки тому
@@jameshughes3014 musk launched his personal car into space for awareness and to get more contracts. It made national news and gave him hundreds of millions in launch contracts. Car manufacturers don't just drop crazy money on stuff. Its a very very tight industry. Especially since Japan and Korea came over here and destroyed american car makers in the 90s and 00s. Unless you have some special insight, every car tesla has made cost a billion to engineer. The first couple didn't literally cost a billion because the engineers worked day and night with no overtime pay. I sure hope tesla stops doing that. cars like the old roadster, the maclaren and the bugatti veyron never make any profits. lolz then after making the car he has to pay spacex engineers to come over and put thrusters in it, which adds a lot of stress to the frame of the car. I was hoping he would dump thrusters in a frame upgraded model S and call it a day, but this ambition to make the most amazing car in the world is going to cost a shttload.

@spacemanmat
@spacemanmat 2 роки тому
Suspect they will pretty much come to a hover using the main engine 10 - 20m off the ground. Then swap to the landing thrusters, they don’t need to be capable of much more than hovering the rocket with some redundancy.
@ImieNazwiskoOK
@ImieNazwiskoOK 2 роки тому
@SpaceManMat I think they would also need power to take off to small altitude. To not have same problem as once on testing with martyte in flight (piece of martyte broke off concrete and destroyed the engine).
@spacemanmat
@spacemanmat 2 роки тому
@@ImieNazwiskoOK true, but no need to be massively powerful, again just need to rise about 20m off the ground then light one main engine. At that height the gas disperses rapidity. Look at pictures under the moon landers, their engines ran right next to the ground, there is very little disturbance other than directly under the engine.
