On December 4th, 1969, the Black Panther Party’s Illinois Chairman Fred Hampton was murdered by police. But his story is about much more than the raid that took his life. The movement Hampton helped create was unique, and revolutionary.
In the late 1960s, Fred Hampton helped lead a coalition of activists, working across racial lines against a corrupt city government that threatened their communities. At the core of their work were social programs, including free breakfasts, health clinics, and legal aid. Hampton named the group the Rainbow Coalition. And because of their impact, it wasn’t long before they got the attention of the police and the FBI. What followed was an assassination, and a coverup.

I took a Black Power Movement class and we learned about the BPP and I swear it just made me angrier. The BPP was not a threat but was only deemed as a threat bc they did something that scared the US, which was unite oppressed groups together. Imagine what the rainbow coalition could’ve been today had Fred not been killed. The U.S thrives off of division because it makes it easier to control certain groups. That’s why things such as racism and classism exist.

No history book told us this, but our parents did. Every single part. We all know this story very well in my culture and community. But our parents were called liars, terrorists etc. Many of us have relatives that were Black Panthers. We do know these stories and events. I loved the way this video was done. The true narrative. it says a lot when people support a black power, black nationalist, segregation supporting party that also supported north korea. replace black with white in any of those and people would see a huge issue in it. just like with malcolm x, anyone that puts black people first is seen as a hero, when if they got what they truly wanted, discrimination would still exist, just with them at the top

It's not the government as a whole: It's that there are people within the government who are willing to subvert whoever & whatever they can to keep the gravy train running for themselves. They know to cloak their true intentions enough to convince people to give them authority to propose & do things under the guise of, "It's us or them," & letting you think you're included in the "us" so you will turn a blind eye, but you're really included in the "them".

To be as fair as possible to the NRA, they supported gun control laws prior to the rise of the Black Panthers, and in fact explicitly disavowed gun wielding white supremacists during the civil rights era. The also supported gun control laws in the 1930s that prevented mail order guns and restricting the sale of actual machine guns.

@@DrQuak First of all, the step that they took in 1930s to stop the sale of MGs, SMGs and mail order guns was to sheild the production of handguns from regulation and not some nobel cause, although the move was marketed as if it was to keep it out the hands of 'gangs'. Also the NRA didn't have any form of proper lobbying structure at that time. Now, disavowing white supremacists doesn't hold much water if you mirror white supremacist talking points in order to increase sale to your overwhelmingly white consumer base (a tactic which is used by the people who hold the highest positions in the company till this day.) So no, they hadn't actually pushed for gun reform prior to the rise of the Black Panther Party and their innovative outlook towards the 2nd Amendment.

They were destabilized from CIA interventions and also internal disagreements. A lot of black panther defense groups initially meant to protect black communities from police brutality unfortunately seeded a lot of gangs and gang culture in black communities.

Fred Hampton is a man who used his life efficiently. Leading by 19, pushing revolutionary ideas in both senses of the word, rising to leader by 21 - and, though dead, that's quite a splash.

This decade and the history of the Black Panthers I have found interesting. At 21, Fred Hampton was a threat to the U.S. government. They realized he was that powerful. I would recommend reading the autobiography of Assata Shakur. Even though I am not a black woman, I found myself identifying a lot with what she wrote. Very Powerful.

It's not that they're too afraid to teach it - it's that they're not permitted to teach it by the US government. In the US, school syllabus is highly controlled and monitored by the government due to its dark history(and present). The more Americans that know the real truth about their own history the less patriots, which means less enrollment in the military. For such a warlike and militarised nation, this cannot do. It's the same with all imperialist countries like Britain and France. Education in these countries is highly selective, controlled and streamlined.

Watching this video makes me so angry and sad at the same time. What really is the reason behind all this madness? I don't even have words to describe it anymore. What I find more disturbing is how people around the world tend to downplay African American struggles for liberation and some even say it's a "mental baggage" and a thing of the past, and I'm just here confused about how people can be so insensitive. My dad went through government agent training where they learn the tactics on how to take down groups the government doesn't like. He noticed how a lot of the tactics they taught him were tactics the government used to bring down the Black Panthers. He always told me and my brother that it was something he always struggled with as a black man.

I feel blessed to have attended an HBCU where my black sociology professor taught about this and many more racist practices that the U.S. government committed against the black community. This story along with the FBI's cointel pro, black Wall St, etc was all taught to show how black Americans went from post slavery growth and independent economic networks to widespread unemployment and crime ridden communities within a 10yr period between 1960-1970

@@dipropraubha9434 They're exactly alike in that they're both being unfairly discredited in the same exact way: black supremacist goals, they want to destroy white people, inanely violent and destructive demonstrations, and general fear mongering and distortion disseminated to lose sympathy from the greater American public. What do you think Stop Asian Hate was about, or the viralization of videos and movements to directly counter BLM in 2020? It's simply cointelpro in the 21st century.
