The thing that sets Donut apart from other car youtube channels is the effort they put into EVERYTHING. They didn't have to make a hilarious mini Jurassic park movie for their Omaze ad, they didn't have to script a fake zoom meeting for Nolan to tell us he scrolls through bring-a-trailer when he's at work, and they didn't have to write a whole pretty good sounding song with a music video to show us their new hat; but they did all of it because they know their audience loves this stuff, and that makes them amazing. Just bought a 1995 Jeep Cherokee Country off BAT and could not be happier with the experience. Having enthusiast comment during the auction was a huge help that allowed me to find out things about the car I would not have known to look for. This helped make me feel at ease. It’s the community that makes these auctions work. Tons of pictures is a plus and the videos make it easier to get a feel for condition. Having a seller that responded quickly to user questions was huge as well. As an added bonus we picked the car up and drove it cross country and made a vacation out of it.

I've gotten several cars at Princeton auto auction. In Princeton West Virginia. Was good got an Accord super cheap had a vacuum leak induced miss. Saw it before sale, temporarily fixed by plugging loose line in, then let it back apart to roll threw. Also got a Nissan Pulsar with pop up n down headlights just had to replace steering rack... nevermind my first car was a Pralude from junkyard that got different generation accord engine swap...

I got my 996 turbo from BaT. I was the high bidder on RNM but they put me in touch with the seller and we worked out a deal. I'm pretty likely to buy from one of these sites again. I also enjoy the eye candy on there and seeing cool cars that I may have not been aware of. I like the price trends as well, and while these are generally the higher end of the market at least the data is published. You never know what things actually sell for on craigslist or fb since the final prices aren't listed.

Having purchased via Bring A Trailer, it was a solid experience and the most straight forward car purchase ever. I won the auction, we were instantly put in contact via BaT, met up, I gave him cash, done deal. EDIT: It is a project car but perfectly drivable and made the 4 hour drive home. Shout out to the VW community as a newcomer. Apparently just driving an old VW gives you a pass to the Cool Club.

I bought a few cars from auctions (none of which were cool) and overall, I've had good experiences. The first was a '98 Taurus - $650 purchase price, I changed the spark plugs and wires and she ran like a dream. 2nd was an '01 Volvo S80 who ran fine, but needed work and was too expensive to properly repair on my 27yr old salary 3rd was another Taurus - 2002 this time, that ran decently, but did this weird thing where it would randomly throw itself into 2nd gear and just lock in place - while being driven

We bought a quad axle Kenworth dump truck on an online auction, it was a decent experience, would do it again. There were some issues that had some "band-aids", but nothing too severe for the price.

I work at Mannheim dealer auction I bought a 1993 accord there for 100 dollars buyer was gonna scrap it cause it didn’t start. I got in 30 sec later saw a light on the dash blinking pulled alarm out from under the dash and started so I had a good experience

I used to buy cars at the local police impound auction in the early 2000's. It was great. But all the impound auctions around here disappeared over a decade ago. Must have been a change in the laws or something.

On the topic of car auction and listing services, where I live (Utah) it is nearly impossible to find local cars listed on sites like AutoTempest, or any of the other auction sites. There are some, sure, but very few and far between. In the Utah the two biggest sites for buying cars are KSL Auto, and facebook market place. We do salt the roads, as I live 20 miles from the second saltiest body of water in the world, but it's a high mountain desert; very low humidity, and very hot summers. So if you want to find cars with very little rust that don't all have California Emmissions, maybe try KSL.

I bought a salvage title FR-S from Copart. The buying process was pretty straight forward and the car came looking pretty much like it did in the auction and inspection photos. When I took the rear bumper off to work on it I saw that the rear crash bar was dented pretty bad (probably from the car getting rear ended) so I had to replace it. I bought a VIN report before buying the car and there were no accident records other than the accident that totaled it so they must have kept it off the insurance, but that's something that could happen with any used car. If you buy a used car definitely make sure all the safety stuff is in check.

Copart is a great place to buy deals if you know what your getting into. Rear ends are usually the good buys as repairs like you said are straightforward process

Won a car on carsandbids that was listed with the wrong year. It was a dealership pretending (in how they communicated) that were were a single person just letting their car go. It sucks.
