Wild Official Trailer #1 (2014) - Reese Witherspoon Movie HD
With the dissolution of her marriage and the death of her mother, Cheryl Strayed has lost all hope. After years of reckless, destructive behavior, she makes a rash decision. With absolutely no experience, driven only by sheer determination, Cheryl hikes more than a thousand miles of the Pacific Crest Trail, alone. WILD powerfully captures the terrors and pleasures of one young woman forging ahead against all odds on a journey that maddens, strengthens, and ultimately heals her.

it makes me so happy to see a movie like this with a female lead. After reading Into The Wild when I was 18, I spent 2 years saving money so that I could leave England and go hitchhiking and living out of a backpack without the need to beg or survive on charity- I wanted to fund the whole thing independently. Over 9 months I hiked across France, Switzerland, Germany and Italy, and then I spent 3 months hitchhiking/hiking across America. As a young female doing this entirely by myself, it was scary, lonely and I was constantly under fire from people saying 'young women shouldn't be doing this kind of thing' and it would get to points where I started to believe them. There's no real role models for girls on the road, and I never once bumped into another girl to gain advice or support from. Films (and books) like this are so important.

I have so much respect for you. I am 20 and graduating this year. I don't have any savings, and still live at my parents. I wish I had your courage. Ever since I saw Into the Wild, then read On the Road, that's what I wanted to do. I just don't know how and when and where to start. Again, bravo.

Lily's Thank you! Saving's aren't a crucial element, and it doesn't take months and months of financing (this is living on the road, after all). It depends how stripped-back you want to go; my very first trip was in France and I had about £150 to make it 4 weeks. It was my first journey and I wanted to keep things simple and relatively close to home; you just need to invest in a good backpack, tent and sleeping bag and you're good to go! Dedicate yourself to living outside and eating rationed food when you're there and you'll be amazed how little you need to spend to get by without having to worry about travel costs and accommodation. Remember, though, there's no rush. These things take planning and during that time there's always opportunity to earn money to go towards it.

@tipsycat27

Lily's you shower when you can, but get used to being dirty. In places like America where it's hard to find clean water sources, washing in river's isn't always ideal. Bathroom speaks for itself and with monthly situations you try to stick with reusable sponges (which is actually what Cheryl uses in the film/book)

Watched this movie last night. It may do nothing for some, but I cried little whimpers all the way home. It is a movie of healing, of redemption, of a second chance at life. I think the more difficult times you've gone through in life, the more you will understand the significance of what this movie has to offer. Reese, keep supporting movies that inspire others! Psychological trauma is a complex human condition, and healing requires great understanding.The 'therapy' of greatest influence is revealed in this movie, and is a far 'cry' more effective than 'civilized' corporate pharma dogma (see DSM 5). How many among us are tamed/civilized? How does one become 'tamed' within a sick civilization? How does one regain their dignity, and sanity? The implied message is to step outside the 'civilized' society, and allow 'nature' to work its magic.

@TimKaseyMythHealer
@TimKaseyMythHealer 9 років тому
RockME AllDeus The general format for all Hollywood films is to depict males as bad, and females as heroic... is this what you recognized? You need to look past this in order to get the 'real' story. Going out into the wilderness is healing, and that is what touched me.

I found it moving, I am a guy and I cried too at least twice. Very impressive performance by Whiterspoon certainly deserving of an Oscar at least. Is very moving personal story, by the way the fox she sees is not there really in case anyone did not get it. The sound track featuring the Grateful Dead was very moving too as well.

I read this book when I was in the process of coming to terms with and ending a very toxic, emotionally abusive relationship. It was so cathartic to read while I was figuring out what love meant and what it didn’t, and what I am worth and what love I am worthy of. It took me a few months, of intense fighting and being pulled back in, of questioning my own thoughts and decisions. I slowly worked my way through the book simultaneously. I left the last chapter for after I left him. Immediately after, Ill never forget sitting on my bedroom floor, screaming and screaming my throat raw and hot tears searing down my face. I could not breathe. I was terrified because I finally had let him go, and along with him all my notions about myself. I had deemed myself unworthy and now needed to find my worth and learn to love myself. My lungs hurt. I finished the book. I saw hope.

I wanna go the beach alone. Sit by the beach, watch the sunset, cry my eyes out. Forgive myself, stop being harsh on myself, tell myself that i'm good enough, tell myself to keep "swimming", one day it will all pay off, for the pain, the doubt, the shame. But first, i need to sit by beach and cry, scream and let the feelings out. Can't even tell anyone how i'm feeling now. Don't wanna make my loved ones worried don't wanna let people who don't care about me use my insecurity against me. Wanna runaway for a while to face my own truth. It's hard to live, it's hard to love me.

Aye, me too. Showing her dropping to her knees on the trail in the trailer was stupid. I found mine on El Camino de Santiago and when she dropped to her knees I said to myself "That's it" She's found it. Showing this in the trailer was like 'Sorry we're closed' on the trailer for the last episode of Cheers. Oh! How I'd love to do the PCT. Sadly, the old body is showing all the wear and tear I gave it. I had to leave El Camino del Norte last year with tendon problems and now a full year later those same tendons are still giving me pain. Really hope I can get back and complete it. Hopefully, I'll be able to do at least a section of the PCT, re-supply for a foreigner can be a bit of a problem and really America. Do you really need all those permission chits?

@matttennis
@matttennis 8 років тому
Wow, I'm very disappointed in some of these comments reflecting people's belief that this movie is just a rip-off of Into the Wild. They are completely different movies, and each is excellent in its own way. Into the Wild is a movie about a kid who graduated from Emory University as a successful student and athlete, but decided to donate all of his material possessions to charity and live in the wild to find spiritual awakening. The entire premise of the movie, however, is that despite the spiritual awareness he finds in the wilderness, he identifies that happiness can best be cultivated with others, not alone. Wild is the story of Cheryl Strayed, who after the death of her mother and spending years of risky behavior, decides to make the bold decision of walking the PCT trail on the west coast. She does this for a number of reasons--to heal, to find herself again, to reflect, to live. Flashbacks permeate the film, telling the story of the relationship between Sheryl and the people who have populated her life. It is a movie about redemption, reflection, and adversity. While I understand the outward appearance of significant similarities between the movies, the thematic elements of both are quite different.

If the movie portrays the book accurately, which I'm pretty sure it will, then it's not really about the wilderness or hiking, it's about mourning, destruction, reflection, and in the end an awakening. She chose hiking as the venue to reflect and to challenge herself. The book was excellent, hoping the movie will be.

I'm so happy... That's one of my dreams to travel alone ... no responsibilities..to discover the world myself..on my own.. this movie is so important. i watched it two days back and I can't stop thinking about it since. I travelled in a airplane for the first time when I was 16 and that was all by myself. Flying over 1800 Km without a family member and that too for the first time. in the airport I met a girl. On talking to her I got to know she was traveling alone. She came from Israel, (probably hiked) through Vietnam and a few other countries and then came to Delhi, India (where I live) and then she was traveling to Mumbai and then back home. Her name is Mikka (idk if I'm spelling this correct) but it was lovely to know she was traveling all by herself. After I told her that I was traveling alone too and I was just 16, she was so happy and asked me to take care and have a safe flight. She was 20 btw.

I only did it for several months but I experienced more In those short months then I ever did In my life. I came back to civilization and I tried to live a normal life. Only to make my family and friends more disappointed. Once you have done it and know you can do it. it becomes addicting. It cannot be described it can only be felt. It pulls on your heart like gravity. I'm leaving again this spring alone this time though it is nice to travel with someone.

I just watched this film and it was fantastic. The story behind really connects you to the characters and makes you fully understand why she's hiking this journey. I thought it was going to be an over dramatic film but in reality it was refreshing and in some parts of it I actually teared up a bit. And the light touch of comedy made the whole theater laugh. I'm incredibly excited for this film. I think it speaks to how amazing Cheryl Strayed's book was that Reese optioned the film rights before the book was even published. This movie is a reminder of the bond between a mom and her daughter and in this case, the sad reality involved in not knowing what you have until it's lost. I loved it, and recommend the great performances.

I screened this movie a few days ago. It's excellent and surprised the hell out of me. I don't hate Reese Withersoon but I'm not a big fan. She's really good in this, and the story is fantastic. It's not about survival... it's about reinventing yourself. If they marketing it more like that I think more people would be interested!

Trekking is like a pilgrimage. It soothes the soul no matter how difficult the journey. It clears you mind of all your daily routines and all the stress that comes with them. Like Heinrich Harrer said in Seven Year in Tibet, "The Tibetans believe that if you travel long distances to a holy place it cleanses the bad deeds you done. The longer and more difficult the journey the deeper the cleansing."

It really depends on your emotional state and your life experience whether you like this movie or not. If I had seen it 5 years ago I probably wouldn't have cared much for it. But being about the age Cheryl was when she embarked on this journey, and having experienced lost and heartbreak myself this movie just broke my heart. I know exactly what it feels like being not nearly the person you always thought you would be, and just wondering if you will ever get a chance to just start over..

Did the Caminho de Santiago several times, and the first times I also had my backpack too heavy and had to ditch, like Cheryl did, a lot of stuff I didn't need... You can live with so few things in the end. Its amazingly liberator.

"If your nerve deny you, Go above your nerve." I just finished watching this movie I really enjoyed it. The story is far more than what i thought it would be. It teaches you few lessons about life and it inspires you in many ways. Give it a try! I'm 18 and I always wanted to travel the way she did but it isn't that easy hopefully I'll do it in the future but not alone, no way, so hats down to all the hikers! You rock!

I read this book two years ago and over and over again but never got to watch the movie since its not available in my country :( the book really played such a huge role model for me that it tears me up to watch this trailer. A part of me clung to this book cuz of my single mom and the treasure of my life and the thought that someday my mom wont be with me just as Cheryl had experienced scared me so much and that was a huge impact on me.

Jesus...A lot of douchebag guys trash talking this movie saying this is a feminist look of 2007 "Into the Wild." I never watched "Into the Wild" to begin with. But I just recently watched this movie, and I gotta say it has a lot of depth to it. I never witnessed anything like this story. It was gritty, heart wrenching, a real tearjerker. But there were moments sentimentality and intimacy that warmed my heart. This movie is a masterpiece beyond belief. I watched it solely on the reviews it has been getting as of recent. I knew it was going to be good, but I never knew it was going to be great. I recommend everyone to really watch it. Everyone can learn from it, young and old. That's why I truly rank it high in my list of my favorite movies.

William Hardister - At least we were aware of why the protagonist from 'Wild' was doing what she was doing. She had made errors and was seeking redemption. With the protagonist from 'Into the Wild', we were never aware why he was doing it. He was a rebel without a cause who committed suicide. Did he think he was going to survive an Alaska winter outside?

Shows perfectly how females cannot survive without a man to save them, and without government to prop them up. They fail miserably.

Also read the book - I think I was looking for the same as you outlan. Unfortunately, I didn't get it. While the backpacking parts of the book were really good... all the rest I didn't much care for. I just can't relate to drug and sex addiction I guess... HOWEVER, I think the movie looks pretty interesting.
@markburnette465
@markburnette465 9 років тому
Why would you want to watch a movie all about backpacking? 127 hrs. the James DeFranco thing based on real life hiker Aaron Ralston getting his arm stuck beneath a boulder (and eventually cutting it off) was the closest I've seen to "just hiking" or backpacking, but most of the movie was him stuck under the rock, and they dramatized it by having him think about his family, his ex girlfriend, etc. Without those human stories, they would've had no story or drama.
@OutLan
@OutLan 9 років тому
Mark Burnette You obviously don't understand the love for backpacking some folks have, like myself.
@markburnette465
@markburnette465 9 років тому
Haha, okay. I've backpacked some myself, but wouldn't want to watch a 1.5 hr. movie of it. I'd rather be out backpacking myself. A good analogy might be something like triathlons: I used to watch those, ocassionally compete in a short one. They're boring to watch, though, so the tv folks have to pull in stories about the competitors to give it human interest.
@OutLan

Oh my gosh like totally being serious here I truly did seen a lot of movies that Reese Witherspoon has done over the years. However this movie right here Wild. not only it's fantastic but it's highly intense as well. I also have to say with all Reese Witherspoon's movies that she has done over the years eve including her new one that just came out to movie theaters home again. There is no other movie that she has done that is so intense as this movie right here. plus I think this is Reese Witherspoon's Masterpiece movie of all times.+ I do not think Reese Witherspoon would ever top this with any other movie that she does at all. Even in the future I think this one right here is her Masterpiece. plus like I said before this is really truly intense & Fantastic. This movie I really enjoyed and loved watching with all her movies that she has ever done. I truly do have to say I think Reese Witherspoon has outdone herself in this movie. She truly did a fantastic role and this movie her character also was the bomb.
