День томуFrance and Italy have agreed to provide Ukraine with mobile surface-to-air missile systems, according to the French Defense Ministry. The SAMP/T air defense system, consisting of vehicle-mounted medium-range missiles, will be deployed in Ukraine in the next two months, following an urgent request from Ukraine's Defense Minister. This is not the first time that France has assisted Ukraine's air defense, as Paris has previously pledged two Crotale NG systems to Kyiv. The MAMBA SAMP-T is a medium-range defense system designed to protect personnel and equipment from aerial attacks.

It's incorrect to say Patriot need 90 personnel to operate it compared to saying "the SAMP/T has a computerised system allowing it to be operated by only 15". The "90 personnel" includes the whole setup/driving, prepping of the units. So, Patriot has no computerized systems? Analogue, manual, is what it implies. To operate a Patriot setup is said (by swedish generals operating it since 2020) can be done with maybe 3-5 operators. But of course reloading etc involves more people. I do not say SAMP/T is a lesser system than the Patriot; just that it does not need 90 active operators to be able to intercept and counter enemy attacks. The russians constantly belittle the Patriot, calling it "not modern, an old system", and of course, like the russian S-series systems, S-100 came a long time ago, but its not the same as the upcoming (?) S-500 system, though looks the same. The most modern Patriot system was launched about 5 yrs ago, and is a very different system than it was at the beginning. It's propaganda. The russian T-73BM was a "very upgraded, modern system, Russia said; most units did not even have thermal imaging systems! You can talk the talk, but you're gonna have to walk the walk.

@Opponens Periculo Another point. The 90 personnel are deployed to an entire unit of Patriots. Not a single launch platform. Also, the Patriots are in their 3rd generation and are continuously being upgraded. Up to date state of the art.

There are only 3 Operators in one Patriot. For building up you need 6 vans with radar, Antenna, Launcher, Rockets, Cables ...Needs 5 h to built up by a crew ( 30 men ) who did it 100s times. Back in the van it needs a week. Patriots are shit like all western systems. The best is the Russian SS 400 !

@Opponens Periculo Patriots don't have computers? Guess again. One of the issues with the 1st gen Patriots was some personnel didn't realize that it required a reset after 72 hours and threw it's timing off causing it to miss the target. This was immediately fixed in a software upgrade. The issue was similar to the Y2K issues with computers.

Just have a good look at Ukraine, the land, the ground, the infrastructure, & now you truely know how much catching all your different defence systems in Ukraine have been doing? Zelensky will even tell you it's 90% that we intercept & destroy, can't you see??. Well we do see, & you know what is seen?. Cities, towns & entire regions completely bombed & shelled, ghost towns of burning ash & rubble. You are catching nothing, it is extremely evident on the ground in Ukraine. Pretty sure it will. Especially considering how russian rockets are attacking appartment buildings lately - I sure hope that our help will be useful in saving civilians from this. This military should keep coming until russian army is defeated enough to withdraw their troops from Ukrainian soil.

@Notatrueinfj Different systems built at different times. Patriots also cost more as they lead the research(sunk cost$$) that is used in follow on systems. The 1st always cost more. Europeans also have smaller budgets and armies so they develop more automated systems to offset the short fall. It should also be mentioned that the Patriots are longer range and the latest version even includes a medium range system integrated into it.

I know that NATO/ the west has a itinerary for the weapons being sent to ukraine 🇺🇦. But as far as air defense systems are concerned we need a big push to get them in place. Russia focused on missile strikes from the beginning. We have air defense systems to take down more than we are currently.

@@bluebud169 Yes but they got many other systems by now too. Sure Mamba isn't the only one that can intercept that missile. In a few months basically all russian missiles, except hypersonic, will become useless. Also cuz their stocks are getting depleted as well. And the hypersonics i'm not even sure they really work or hit accurately and still it's not impossible to stop these either.

You've already forgotten how resourceful Russians are. All they need is a few weeks of studying this new weapon before they modify their radars, Krasukha ECW and develop countermeasures. Italian Militaries they do not have much to offer in terms of top of the swhelf military systems , nevertheless SAMP/T was one of these for sure and another one is CENTAURO anti-tank surely better than the French AMX10 , I really hope the Italian Govt and the Army to start thinking of doing it . who says SAMP/T is not adequate probably don't know the system , it is good , it is very good , in Europe is surely the best medium range anti-ballistic missiles system .

There is a big difference between medium and long range systems. One reason there are fewer missiles on a launcher for a Patriot is the long range missiles are much bigger because they fly faster and further. There smaller missiles in Patriot batteries now and there are more per launcher. So the Patriot is capable of medium and long range systems. GIVEN that the mediums in this video are GREAT! and the overall systems are great! One nice thing about NATO is combination of countries is developing systems and weapons that have another set of brains working on them!

MAMBA and Patriot SAMs have similiarities as well as differences.. For example MAMBA has a better mobility and faster deployment given that its launchers are positioned directly on a vehicle. Also MAMBA has the vertical launch capability and therefore can shoot interceptors at the 360 degrees. Patriot's launchers are positioned at an angle which prevents them from firing missiles to their back. On the other hand Patriot has a much more advanced interceptor against the ballistic missile, so called PAC-3. PAC-3 has a hit to kill capability which is a much better option against ballistic missiles. Currently both systems have similar radars, at least until Patriot receives the new GaN based AESA radar made by Raytheon called LTAMDS (I could tell you what that means but it's irrelevant).. This radar is truly a game changer regarding sensitivity, range, capability to track many more targets and resistance to jamming..

The Mamba/ASTER system is better suited to asset and field air defense than Patriot as the latter is designed to be used in interlinked large area defense. Mamba is not proven against small or terrain-hugging drones having been developed from the naval ASTER system therefore its radars need a flat area or can switch to look-down after launch. While each missile can track 10 targets at once these may not be cluster types under the 2010 agreement which most NATO countries have signed -- excepting the USA, Poland and Romania is still dithering. The main weakness of Mamba is its high reliance on electronics and even quite primitive RF spread bursts can cause total failure of the launcher, missile(s) or both. In the small numbers which can be spared by France and Italy it would be of limited use against cruise missiles equipped with frequency-hopping EW units which are very lightweight and compact.
