@InsideOutBH8 років тому
CameramanI88 Exactly. To me, that was a defining moment that showed Murray's quality as a player. I just hope it doesn't fly under the radar, because for him to come up with that was world-class. Even though he ended up losing, but hey, it was vs. the GOAT. Murray has the most vulnerable second serve of the Top 5, it's the weakest aspect of his game. So many excellent players have all lost sets in the majors on a double fault. Even as great a player as Nadal double-faulted to lose the second set of the Aussie Open 2012 vs. Djokovic. Andy lost, but he didn't just roll over and give it to Roger on a silver platter. No one would blame him after missing his first serve 40-love down. He's supposed to lose that set. But he still fought like a demon and made Roger take the set over his dead body. That's worthy of respect.

Murray and Wawrinka were pretty much the only guys who were ever able to tackle Federer, Djokovic and Nadal in best of 5 their primes, and even then only very rarely. Murray was incredibly consistent until his injury set in; he made the quarter-finals or further at almost every slam for like, 7 years, and it was almost always one of the Big 3 that beat him. The last time Fed actually played a rival close to his age at Wimbledon was the 09 Final against Andy Roddick. Since then he has had to play big matches against players 4,5 and 6 years younger than him, which in tennis terms is a generation. He still managed to make it to 3 Wimbledon Finals since and won it in 2012. At 34, he floats around on that court as if his bones were made of air pockets. He is playing as if he is 1.5 in the world and John McEnroe has recently changed his opinion of the GOAT, by giving it back to Fed. You'd be insane not to agree.
@joshjones50628 років тому
DaSnarky Remarky I would agree however in the final he was considerably poorer despite having an easier passage to the final. He can produce the odd great match like against Murray but can no longer back it up I be surprised if he wins another slam.

Josh Jones HE'S THIRTY-FOUR YEARS OLD. Ken Rosewall aside, the fact that it's even a conversation proves Fed's transcendent greatness.
@joshcostanza72508 років тому
Josh Jones I don't think that's determinate. Federer still has a pretty decent h2h against Djokovic outside of the major slams. He just beat Djokovic at Dubai. What he needs to do is win that first set and make Djokovic lose a little bit of his footing. He lost his serve (through no fault of his own), and essentially couldn't muster enough convincing dominance to be in that position again. I think Federer, if he keeps going at the rate he's going, will have the longevity of an Agassi (playing until he's 38) and find his chance in a year or so to grab another Wimbledon or US Open

Watching feds forehand and backhand now it was fantastic. I am glad to have been able to watch the begining of Feds career when he beat Sampras, his rise and domination after that. Also the way he made Rafa step up and then Novak with Murray also improving. I do not think we will see such an era again for a while with the rivalry and comradary that those 4 had. Making each other step up every time. The current generation wont understand, but the stats are there. For those 3 to win 67 of the grand slams in total says a lot. Then there is Murray and Warinka who raised their levels on some occassions to win a few, but consistency that these three Novak, Roger and Rafa showed and for some still showing, is just amazing. To put everything in perspective, only Medvedev (1 slam) and Thiem (1 slam) have one slams outsde of Roger, Novak, Rafa, Murray and Warinka in the past 2 decades. I must also say, that the Rafa and Roger story is fantastic and needs to be made into a movie. From Roger dominating to Rafa starting at a young age and adapting to be a fierce rival to becoming very close freinds. Watch their last game together during the team Europe v USA, Rogers farewell, when they both cried and u will understand how close they are. Currently I think the guard is changing again with Alcaraz, who seems like the real deal. He already has a slam at 19 and also has one of those nadalesque type of game. Lets see what happens, but i won't be suprised if he gets 10 slams.

@KillBill21143 роки тому
Murray's anticipation and movement back into the court at 12:25 is amazing. He's heading directly towards the ad side service box BEFORE the ball has crossed the net on his side - he knows that's Fed's only real option with the ball dropping low. Fed's going short and back across the court - should be a winner - but Murray was on it and rolled it down the line. Amazing court IQ.
@felixseyfried72003 роки тому
lol super basic to readjust after his court is so open. then easy to see that fed is playing a stop. not special to sprint after that strike at all to be honest.

@@SuperYtc1 He's as fixed as he can be. Andy's problem is he should be playing like Fed in his late 30ties, not like Gilles Simon in his prime. I mean he should go for broke on all-out attack not retrieve every ball like Caroline Wozniacki in her best years. Old dogs never change.

15 minutes to hold. Then Fed comes back hits 2 aces,service winner,forehand her and holds in about 52 seconds. Incredible how blowing this many break points and losing such a tough games seemingly had no affect on him. Just steps back to the line and goes to work. Only other player I can think of that could have done this is Borg and maybe Sampras.

In a similar manner when we speak about a taugh character, we should also not forget the name of Novak Djokovic especially when we speak about the mental strength of such great tennis players of all time.
