I hated to GUI and I had to download Chrome just to open the webpage do download windows 10. I will say though, the tablet mode on Windows 8 worked well with the surface. If I recall, the stated plan was that they were switching models from paid OS's to the free upgrade model, which they're doing here. The idea was that if you did upgrade to 10 back then all the future upgrades were also offered, but not if you had stuck with 8, I believe. It's been a while, so I might not have the details, but I don't believe they never said they weren't going to do another number, basically.

Yeah, that's your experience. It's totally valid, don't get me wrong, and I'm happy you are now more comfortable. On the other side, I have a custom built gaming computer that I use for a lot of personal projects, and Windows 10 was and still is amazing - I use all of the features of the start menu, taskbar, the layout. I really appreciate the style, too, looks sleek (not sure where you got the inconsistency from, but that could be just the theme you used). The new one is an obvious mimic of Mac`s to me, and I choose Windows deliberately, I have no love for their style. It has too many moving parts, every animation seems exaggerated, the icons are unbelievably colorful. I agree with you on the point that aesthetics matter a lot, as well as the general fit and layout of the system. I just appreciate Windows being Windows in aesthetics, too, not only functionality.

Removing options is never a good thing from a user perspective, yet every damn software company keeps doing it. I don't get it!.. [EDIT]: yay, 69th like!

Doesn't make any sense to remove features some users have become accustomed to. Just have a new default with the option to change back to previous options for those who don't want the new way. Seems like MS is constantly trying to force users to behave the way they want them to, instead of providing the most customisable platform for a user to do things the way THEY wish to. It's surprising there is still no windows clone that does things the way every normal person agrees it they should be done (and/or gives multiple options) rather than us all being bullied into doing things a certain way just for proper compaitibility.

It's early days lol most of these people are just using the leaked version still right now which wasn't the real thing really so of course some things will be off, the actual version won't be actually roled out on Win 10 system for several months more it could take until next summer or longer until you can actually "upgrade" but honestly it's basically just Windows 10 but designed to work more with AI and they'd have to rewrite the base code of the entire OS to do that. It's also designed to work well with touchscreens too which is what they tried to achieve with Win 8 but they were missing AI to make it properly work, only real difference is it incorporates some features we have on our phones or tablets so if we accidently close the browser it saves it and then improvements to multiple screens, looks about the exact same as Win 10 though and they said win 10 would be the last and what they meant by that is they aren't going to make some drastically different OS anymore and just use what works which is a good idea for sure i'm glad they're finally onboard with that, plus cos we get free upgrades now What's the point?. The while and black screens don't look right though so clearly still a bit rough around the edges while it's still new which software usually is but give it a year or so and they'll change it.

My rig is strong enough to run it and there will be bug issues on any windows OS Regardless. and yeah in 2025 there won't be anymore updates on Windows 10 so which means your pc maybe at hi risk of being affected hacked and Compromised. all of your very important files will be exposed and no way of stopping it. so right now it's free till 10-22-2022 or less to upgrade only to those who got Win10. also before upgrading some games are not compatible to run win11 so it's best to stay on win10 for the time being. as soon everything is good including pc games i'll upgrade to Windows 11 for sure. oh btw Intel all the way and i have enough Requirements to run Windows 11. @@drixxer I liked the live tiles in the start menu, it was giving a chic look to the apps, they were dynamics not like this. Also the ability to resize them and put them wherever you want. Also open apps in the taskbar, I don't know the name of the setting tbh but, in windows 10 we had the choice to show the title of opened windows in the taskbar or to only show icon, I used to show the title it helps when I'm opening a lot of tabs in chrome to know in advance what tab I'm working on, or what folder I'm exactly opening in file explorer. I also hate how big is this new taskbar, I was even enabling small icons in windows 10, it was giving me more space. Now it isn't available anymore. Furthermore, they made the taskbar bigger, it takes a lot of the screen and I don't like to hide it automatically as I sometimes can't make it appear even if I hold on it. Another removed ability is to arrange the icons in the bottom right, I used to sort them in a preferable order. Now they're fixed. Last, It really upsets me that they removed those lock screen quick status, I was enabling weather, "to do" app, email and more. now there is only one app to choose from, they even removed some apps from the list like the "to do" app, I can't find it. I think that's what I miss a lot, I forgot to mention that I also don't like the new choice of options that appear when you right-click, it's not a customization feature but yeah, they added an option to show the previous list of options in windows 10, that are the most used ones to me, which means an additional click to find what I want.

@@dragonicbladex7574 yeah, that's why there was dropdown on a right click in the first place. Now it became less functional on a desktop, while staying as awkward as it was on a tablet. The function of a right click now is literally to show you one more step so it doesn't feel too weird.

You get the same menu option when you right click on the windows logo instead of the task bar, which is a bit annoying at times.

Yeah, the big one for me is not being able to move the taskbar from the bottom. I've been using a little program called Buttery Taskbar that makes taskbar hiding way more functional, it makes the taskbar never show up until you hit the windows key, no more accidentally moving the mouse over it. By docking the taskbar sideways you're giving yourself more vertical screen space, which is what you need for most tasks, with Buttery Taskbar you reclaim whatever screen space the taskbar was taking up and learn to actually use keyboard shortcuts. So regardless of how pretty 11 looks, I'll feel like I'm losing a lot of productivity.

@Chris New functionality ≠ quality of life improvement always. As a multimedia professional in a high volume industry, I quite literally don't have the freedom of time to augment my workflow. I don't care who you are, doubling the time and effort it takes to perform a simple task is clumsy when you have to perform that simple task hundreds of times a day. Those extra steps add up and you're rapidly at a productivity loss.

@@foxman105 Windows 8 wasn't actually a bad OS to begin with, even if 8.1 was a definite improvement. I'm generally of the opinion most hate directed at it was of the same nature as 'Vista was terrible' even though we know on retrospect Vista was great, but just too soon given the atrocious hardware of most PCs at the time. That aside, W10 has a shelf life now until October 2025, so MS has time to hear and feel our feedback, as do we to switch or lose support.

I just got a new laptop that can update to Windows 11 for free so I decided to do my research and find out if I should, and that was a big turn off for me. The only removed feature that bugs me is the inability to drag files into the Taskbar, to put them into another folder. Once that is added back I will definitely upgrade.

It was already a bit underwhelming in W10 that the side configurations of the taskbar didn't offer the slim variant that the bottom and top ones did but now they outright take away all options that aren't strictly bottom. It's awful, having the bar on a side is a much more efficient use of screen space.

Although Windows 11 is very stable as of now but after several months Windows 11 will be completely stable like any mature Windows OS.

windows 10 has auto update feature that is just no way for you to turn that off even if you already modified the core settings and it's annoying especially if you're in a hurry or emergency and need the pc to be turned off immediately, hope 11 has a choice to turn off/on the auto update feature
