A "bait and switch". You can however still manually go out and download the updates off of the windows update server so I guess you can still get "updates" but without a 3rd party tool most people won't be doing it.

I have installed win 11 on my laptop with i5 4th gen cpu without tpm and the update page says I won't be receiving any updates after official release. However I am getting beta updates.

My main computer has no way to have a TPM as well. I'm in same boat. It's still good, so it's not reasonable to buy a new computer nor tossing out for e-waste. Unless Microsoft remove the TPM requirement, I'm moving to Linux when Windows 10 ends. Besides, Windows 11 looks like a total downgrade from Windows 10.

If you do want to upgrade and you do buy a new device. Use the old pc as a lunix or backup. Just so that laptop becomes fully useless or gets thrown in the trash. I do think it will still need tpm but that is my thoughts

good news , windows 10 still gonna support direct storage with NVMe SDD , so there is no need for windows 11 vista

Like for example, I've programmed something in Python that would set a syskey on a scammer's computer (I made it into a portable executable, so that I don't have to worry about it not executing on the scammers computer, and not having Python installed). A Windows 7 computer to be exact, because scammers still use Windows 7. Which when it sets the syskey on the Scammers computer, it will raise the system volume to 100%, and play a alarm audio file so loud that it would scare every scammer in the call center. And hopefully get the scammer fired.

I have a 7th gen intel cpu and it's the only thing keeping me from upgrading. I pass all the checks, but the cpu. Interestingly enough, some surface devices have 7th gen cpus and MS made them compatible with W11 and my system is still "unsupported".

Just buy a newer PC. PC's are so cheap these days. You can buy a very good mini PC for less than $300. The virtualization-based security feature of Win-11 alone is well worth a price of a new PC.

They don’t explain everything because the more they say the more controversy happens because of clashing opinions and philosophies with the customers (or because it's something they shouldn't say at all costs). That’s why many companies stay silent instead of explaining everything they do

@@asianjackass237, my employer already replaces computers every 3-5 years. Te replaced them last spring (before the pandemic shutdown), so te has a little extra time before it becomes a substantive issue. As for me personally, I’ll be retired by then and will have switched to Linux.

Well you could've just dual booted it, or just have it installed on a different drive. Like for example if you use a desktop computer, you could just have 2 drives reserved for each system. Like you can use one for Windows, and the other for Linux. I have been trying to install Ubuntu on a flash drive. So that I don't have to make more partitions for Linux.

my 6600 ran just fine on the insider program and it would let me update form windows update inside of settings, absolutely no workaround needed.

Windows 11 requirements are stupid, literally an 8th gen Celeron is supported but a 7th i7/i5 is not.

You got scared that Microsoft were limiting the hardware you can use, so you went to an OS that doesn't support custom hardware changes and definitely does not support your older PC. I'm not sure what you were scared of, but it was probably for the wrong reason. Mac's are way more locked down than Windows is.
