For those thinking choosing your task list changes slayer too much: my system does not change how you train slayer. I should have explained this better in the video but Duradel rn assigns ~ 35 tasks, then you block 7 of them leaving you with 28. then you find the amount of tasks you need to do to break even on points while skipping the rest. which turns out to be do ~12 tasks at duradel and skip the other 16. so you are already choosing your 12 tasks. It doesnt buff xp rates really, only for players who are "bad" with their points. like i didnt pull all those task pool numbers out of my ass. this is pretty much as balanced as it can get but i agree that urgent tasks should be less OP. Basically this idea gives you more flexibility to switch activities you want to do within slayer. because rn if you want to do efficient slayer, boss slayer and sometimes some wildy slayer you would have to change your entire blocklist around to make this possible or resort to hours of turael skipping.

I don't always agree with your ideas he box, but I think you hit the nail on the head here. Slayer has become so hyper-optimized for people with charts of what to block and skip for either gold or xp. In theory it was introduced as a mechanic to bring variety to the monsters people would kill in runescape, but people found the best ones they always do and found the best way to avoid all the other "miserable" ones, ending up bringing little variety to monsters killed and the locations they are killed at.

When they added slayer points and the system, it really annoyed me that they didn't add it with Smoking Kills, the quest that introduced the system. I think an additional quest or quest line that introduces what slayer is and why we are just sent to mow down hundreds of random monster would be nice.

It was even worse, when Slayer first came out, there was no way to skip a task. my second task ever was 200 bronze dragons and at the time there were 3 spawns per world and 10+ people per world trying to kill them. I quit until Tureal skipping came out.

Definitely like a lot of this. The UI images look intuitive and easy to use. The task list idea sounds like it would make experienced players quite happy. However, for how few options one would get at the low level masters it seems like it would be too limiting and confusing for low level players, especially considering how many options there are on those task lists. The limited task idea is also cool. I think giving players a reason to interact with what is usually considered to be dead content, along with reworking those lesser used tasks to not be as awful to do is a good idea. Also agree with the grouping of different kinds of dragons and demons together. I feel like some of the mid level uniques are a nice stepping stone for main accounts but could fall into the category of unused for irons considering you already unlock zenyte jewelry at the point that they would be accessible for general use. Specific cases like the spiritual creatures damage increase might not see too much interaction. Overall awesome ideas, I support

As for the next skill, i think *Thieving* is the most lacking skill in the game now in terms of functional use, training variety, unlocks etc. Its also one of the few "fail state" skills in the game which i find are the LEAST enjoyable to train.

definitely would want to be careful about making a level 1 slayer choose 5 tasks from turael's list. a new player has no idea what all of the different monsters do and making them make such a complicated decision would be a huge turn-off

If i were to implement it i would just make a semi decent "default list". That way they only have to touch it once they decide they wanna get more out of slayer. Leaves it simple to get into

i think having some sort of tutorial in place would solve this for 99% of new players, and its not really complicated. new players would just pick monsters then think look cool and then can change them out if they didnt like fighting them

I love the organic approach. Really gives the level milestones more meaning. Especially the limited task idea is great. Makes unfun tasks really special and enjoyable. Love all the ideas, but I think the partner slayer could use some polish. Preventing boosting seems difficult. However I want it to exist and to feel worthwhile.

Great proposal overall, slayer could really use an upgrade to make the annoying parts more enjoyable. First of all, love the design of the task list interface, especially if the precise location is added, people should not have to go the wiki to find out crucial information. One thing that could be cool to add to this would the Collection Log slots that you can fill at the monster (including greying it out if it is not obtained, much like in the coll log itself), this would give people a good idea of what monsters are good to add to their slayer pool for collection log purposes. A niche thing that would get nerfed with this proposal is hunting for revenant weapons. Currently I turael skip for revenant task, so that I don't have to deal with the wilderness as much. This proposal would mean I have to engage into wildy content more than previously. Furthermore, I like the idea of adding the Hex Cloth and the Focus Gem, as I agree that more slayer related stuff should be included in the slayer skill. Nonetheless, Im not a fan of giving it a different defence level than the black mask. I would propose to either reduce the black mask to 1 defence as well (giving it the same defence stats as an iron helm), while keeping the slayer helm at a 10 def level requirement. Or just giving the new items a 10 def requirement as well. The limited tasks system does sound nice at first, but it does raise some questions. (1) Is there a risk that the meta becomes taking the X number of quickest tasks in your pool, in order to gain limited tasks as frequent as possible? (2) Does the limited table contain unique or highly sought-after items, meaning that ironman are pretty much forced to try to get as many of these tasks as possible?

Amazing video, clearly a lot of effort went into it. I've always had some ideas of my own, they might be dumb or already thought of, but u never know. -I thought it would be cool if you could add the eternal gem to the slayer helm at lvl 99 slayer. -I know it's been talked about before, but a new rare drop table with actual loot would be interesting. -being able to kill general Graardor on a goblin task, and Commander Zilyana on a spiritual creatures(mage/range/warrior) task. -I would especially like to see increased level monsters of lower levels, such as how the Banshees have a higher lvl version screaming banshees could have an upgraded version for level 70 slayer the 'Shrill Banshees', who's finger could shoot out lightning that rains down in an area of effect or something like that. -would also like to see upgraded versions of Carwling hands, Fever spiders, ect. ect. The lower level and old npc's have so much character it's sad they don't have more use. -more locations for all slayer monsters Those are just some of my ideas on it, in case you're ever brainstorming. Slayer's my favorite skill also. I'm currently 137m slayer with 1,717 superior creature kc without an imbued heart yet. no joke, it's the last item I need to green the slayer log. hopefully before 200m :D keep up the great work!

Similar to a Farming Guild we need a Slayer guild. Instead of a Farming Contract you can choose a Slayer Contract. 2 slayer masters are arguing about which creature is their favorite to kill. You can talk to Master A and get a task of their creature, or talk to Master B and get their task. The tasks are the same for 1 entire week and then they reset and rotate, with a scoreboard behind them showing total contribution to tasks across Runescape. Slayer Masters from all over the game are found lounging in the Slayer Guild's Lodge. When you leave, they go back to their original locations. You would be able to customize the look of the guild slightly similar to POH by bringing stuffed heads and mounting them on the wall - cosmetic for only you.

Really good to see someone taking the lead and proposing changes to Slayer. Thank you for that. Since you divided the video into sections, i'll give my feedback into sections too: 1) Custom Task List: Maybe i didn't understand it correctly, but i don't like the idea of restricting your account to X slayer mobs. I think one of the appeals of Slayer is exactly that: Choosing your master based on their task weightings and hoping for a good task (combining this with a block list, to optimize your chances). I like the randomization aspect of it, and don't think it should be changed. I think extension of task length should be unlockable. You want a bigger task (cause they are good xp/money/drops)? You have to earn that right. Makes total sense to me. 2) Slayer Master Changes: I really like your idea of making each master "worth it" at a certain point in the progression. I would also like to have 'thematic tasks' on each master. For example, Mazchna giving a task that is "Undeads" or something like that, and you have to kill whatever you fancy, as long as it fits this category. Maybe Nieve/Steve for demons, and Turael for Dragons? Idk. I think it would be a good solution for whenever you're hunting a "specific" task, to go to a master that has that monster as its 'theme'. I like extension amounts to be variable, based on the master. I am not a fan of the 'guaranteed task' after you unlock a monster. Keep the RNG factor. 3) Partner Slayer: Very good idea. I also don't think they should be meta. I really like the "cluster tasks", and think they should be added to each slayer master too (see what i said in 2)) 4) Turael Skipping and Urgent tasks I like the idea to make Turael skipping not reset your streak. It should be *very* reduced XP, tho, like, 25% of the monster's HP per kill. I like the idea of urgent tasks, although i think the "Urgent Task" should have reduced XP. I don't think you should be able to 'hunt' tasks for XP. It should be for drops and the damage boost. That way, the meta is still to interact with slayer 'randomly', unless you want a specific unlock. I also think that the 'sub task' time should not be 15~20 minutes. To me, the system would be a way to ensure you are not stupidly dry on a task, rather than being able to farm it consistently. In my head, after you picked the "urgent task", you would have a 1/3, maybe 1/4 chance of receiving it, regardless of weight. If you do 4 tasks without receiving it, you'll get it as your 5th one, guaranteed. This way, you are guaranteed to not go dry, but you still have to interact with slayer somewhat randomly to receive the task of your choice. Maybe the subsequent 0~4 tasks before your urgent task is received, the number of mobs could be reduced, but idk about that. 5) Slayer Credits I don't really see the issue with the point system. In fact, i'd argue that your system is basically the same point system with another name/different values. I don't think the point system should change. But i do think the reward shop should be changed. I also don't like slayer mobs locked behind points. It should be based on requirements to access that mob. 6) Slayer Rewards: I like auto slayer unlocks being 'free' after a certain amount of kills. But i think these kills should be *on-task*, so you can't unlock everything right away. Also, make the number of mobs required scale with the mobs slayer level. 50 mobs for Cave Bugs? Ok. Gargoyles? Should be more. I like making stuff require levels instead of points. Nice suggestion. I don't like that "Like a Boss" is locked behind 75. Most people in this game are NMZ to 70+ combats before doing any meaningful slayer. I think Like a Boss should be unlocked right away, with a pool of mobs that increase as you level up your skills. You are ~40 in your combats? Like a Boss would have Obor, Bryo, Scurrius and idk, Crazy Arch on its pool. As you level up, you unlock Sarachnis, Barrows, DKS and such. Gives you a chance to experiment bosses at the "intended level". 7) Superiors and Cannonballs I like the idea of making superiors more common as you level up, but i also think Combat Achievements should boost this even more. Cannonballs tied to CA's are a bandaid solution. I like it being tied to Slayer (but in all honesty, it should be based on the power of your cannon, which could increase from quests, smithing level or some minigame) 8) Unpopular Slayer mobs: I like adding superiors to these mobs. Not a fan of the limited tasks. If we keep the tasks as i said in point 1), it would still have the variety of slayer, and there's no need to buff XP/add drops to the game. 9) Dragons: I like the clustering of dragons. Think it should happen with other 'classes' of creatures as well (see point 2)). I like the metallic hides. 10) New Unique Drops: Nice idea. Making lower level items would be great. And incentivize people to do slayer since the beginning of the account. 11) Quest Requirements: I think it's not that bad to remove the quest requirements, but make the task assignable in *every location*. You can now get nechs without priest in peril, but Konar could ask you to kill them in the Slayer Tower. If you don't want to do it, then skip the task. You get the benefit of being able to get the task you couldn't, but you still may have to "work for it", either doing a quest or finishing level requirements in skills. 12) On Task Requirements: Lifting the task requirement off Kraken and Smoke Devils would be great. It would fit with the others. Just require the task if you want to kill the boss version of it. Gigantic wall of text, but that's my feedback. Thank you for proposing these changes :D

idk if this is an unpopular opinion but i feel like the randomness of slayer assignments really adds to the skill, also im only 11 minutes in but how would being able to make task lists optimized for xp/hr not buff xp/hr? i know that skipping and blocking somewhat does the same thing in the end game but this seems more op, maybe im wrong though

also i like the idea of integrating the slayer rewards into the skill progression but i think having the only requirement being level takes away from the variety/incrementality of slayer thus making all slayer journeys more homogenous

i like your idea for the slayer helmet though, im always reticent to change this sort of stuff as i consider it iconic and feel like changing anything about it would lose alot of idk historical value for the game but thematically and from a game design perspective it is a great change

i agree tasks should be choosable or change the exp rate to be on par with the best mage tasks because majority of tasks are trash and people only do like 5 main tasks or skip the rest this is a really good idea you have

EDIT: This is an amazing proposal, really love how you tied everything back to the skill to take away the minigame feeling. I also totally love how you and RAG made the unique drops thematic with the monster itself, as in parts of the monster that needs to be assembled into the gear you want!

Een lastig voorbeeld is natuurlijk de Metallic Dragons, want hierdoor kun je veel meer Rune Dragons doen met een extreem hoge accuracy door een Slayer task.

It isn't really, at least for high level slayer. Once you get your blocks setup & figure out what tasks to skip, you can effectively get to the same number of 12 tasks.

Honestly just add prefered slayer tasks the same as the block list. 7 prefered tasks all cost 100 points to stick on there when you first get the task and make it so it’s double weighted from then on, no gimmicks no slashed exp rates just that and slayer as normal

ii like these ideas, a few pieces of feed back, first the chose a task, and urgent task sound too unbalanced like 30 credits takes way longer then one assorted monster task, maybe choosing would be best if it could be for bosses and urgent couldn't or add like a 3 or 5 task cooldown on urgent task. second small thing like a boss should not be 75 slayer and should have a similar choose list like the normal tasks but bet different for lower level slayer master so people can still kill like orbor or whatnot earlier for slayer. third i feel group slayer might just also need more specific dungeons and stuff sence it would be multi ( unless people are not ment to attack the same mob)

Edit: as I am finishing the video, the title has since been adjusted! Thank you! I think this is a great video and excellent discussion points, but It would be helpful to include a disclaimer in the title that its a "rebalance proposal" or something along those lines. Clickbait is often nessisary for views unfortunately, but I think that this is a bit too misleading. The current titlr is more designed to be a reaction video to an update post, the proposed title is theorycrafting. Especially because the background color matches the OSRS forum, I think it is too confusing still in combination with the current title, especially if someone is listening to the video in the background.

In all honesty i like every idk evry 2 out of 3 things you mentioned, but some stuff sounds idk not needed? Personally i like how slayer works atm, but some qol i definately agree with. Changing points for credits and all, tomato potato. Some examples Yes: Superiors on all task Dragons grouped up Range mage melee helms, then combine No (not as described atleast) Urgent tasks Im like just let us buy a task for 500 points atm. Or increase 1 tasks weighting u till its assigned for idk 100 points, or a 1-2k unlock. After completing said task you need to complete any other task to be able to pick a new urgent task

@@heboxjonge well, urgent tasks could instead be nerfed xpwise, making it more about the drop or benefits of being on task. I would also be in favor of allowing idk tasks without xp to be chosen. Say an urgent task list, but no slay xp for any assigned task, or way less.. Perhaps balanced also by low amounts of kills required. Say you wanna do speed CA, hunt a final drop from a certain boss.. speedruns Or perhaps you can unlock this for each task, to do it offtask with slayhelm benefits, after a certain KC milestone? Would have to be looked at. "You are assigned 200 abbysal demons" you can "reject task for X credits"/ "give me an urgent task instead for X+Y credits" (more expensive, no xp?) Yea idk all tricky. Rather when no task let you pick one for X credits tbh

Making things easier is not addictive. The Formula Loop game designers (and everything in this world) use to addict people is "Opportunity> Unpredictable Rewards> Repeatability". Giving people what that "want" is a quick way to make it less addicting. Making gamers know more of what to expect takes away from unpredictable rewards. Current slayer is you Go get assigned your slayer task (Opportunity) > Receive random task from like 100 monsters (Unpredictable Rewards) > Complete task and repeat (Repeatability).. and within that structure there is Kill a monster (opportunity) > Receive loot (Unpredictable Rewards) > Go kill more monsters (repeatability). What separates OSRS from RS3 is that jagex makes the gamers lizard brain play the game, rather than make the game easy and use the lizard brain to generate money off of actual gambling like spinning a wheel daily for the random reward.

I think this is really, really good, but I also think that you need to get tasks you don't want some of the time and the whole customizability option should be taken with care. For starters, there could be a "recommended" option and you should get a 1/50 chance to get a task that isn't on your table, I think. If I select no dragons, the game should still push me to take on some dragons every now and then idk.

Amazing idea. I really don’t enjoy Slayer the way it’s currently set up. It’s slow, cluncky and locked behind points all the time. It’s just not worth it to go through all the annoying stuff to get not so great slayer rewards. Why train hundreds of hours for a DHL or Occult when you can get raid loot 100 times faster and its more fun and more mechanically challenging. Great vids!

Maybe your changes to the task list would be good for extremely hardcore players; but for everyone else, from casuals to somewhat hardcore players, these changes are a downgrade. Not only do they make getting a task more complicated, they also remove variability by restricting ur options of tasks, and said variability is probably slayer's best feature for the experience of most players. Although I do agree slayer has some problems - like some tasks taking forever to complete for poor exp, I'm looking at you 40 steel dragons! - and the point system does have some flaws, but a complete skill rework is too extreme, when we can solve most of these problems individually. For example, the store task option is quite bad rn, and some of the rewards are too expensive on points, like the slayer helmet recolor, but these are punctual problems that can be easily fixxed; and I doubt even 10% of the player base does Turiel-skipping, so changing the whole skill because of this single flaw is overkill I love ur videos man, and thanks for sharing ur opinion. This is all just constructive feedback and I can't wait for the next video of the speedrun! Btw, no more clickbait titles!!!

I completely agree. These changes are overkill. Simply making bad monsters slightly better or more worth it to kill would fix slayer. Saving up 1k points isn’t hard if you almost never skip which I usually don’t. It’s more fun to find a way that you enjoy to do each task. Variety is the spice of life and slayer

I agree with the idea of tying unlocks more heavily to levels than points. However a lot of the task changes are just a little too dramatic for me. I like the way slayer works now and I don't think we need to rebalance everything. Why rebalance something everyone already loves?

I should have explained this better in the video but Duradel rn assigns ~ 35 tasks, then you block 7 of them leaving you with 28. then you find the amount of tasks you need to do to break even on points while skipping the rest. which turns out to be do ~12 tasks at duradel and skip the other 16. so you are already choosing your 12 tasks. It doesnt buff xp rates really, only for players who are "bad" with their points

IMO, while this does make the skill a bit nicer, it doesn't fix the fundamental flaws with slayer as a skill. Slayer is still the only skill where achieving a level doesn't mean you permanently unlock something. It just means that you unlock the ability to sometimes do a certain thing while you continue to train the skill. Task-only enemies need to be removed. If that makes their uniques crater in price, too bad. (This should also boost the off-task rate of the jaw to the on-task one.) This goes for all the bosses, not just the regular enemies. I do think that the premise of slayer (give up your agency on your training method) is absolutely atrocious, so any fix short of removing it is insufficient. This is a good step in the right direction, though. Some nits about the proposal: * A lot of the draw for partner slayer is so that a group can all be assigned a boss and do it together on task. The proposed fix leaves out many of the potential tasks for this, mostly defeating the point. Sure, there are DKs and a few others, but it's mostly gone. * Adding the fight caves requirement for getting a tzhaar task does hurt some early game progression, but I think it's fine overall.

Most of the video doesnt really do anything to address the main issue of slayer, which is many tasks have no benefit for doing them. Narrowing the focus towards "only being able to get tasks you want to do" would just turn slayer into a cannon/barrage fest just without needing the points to sustain it, and will absolutely boost slayer exp rates beyond what should be possible long term. Making it so duradel can only give you 12 tasks of your choice rather than 42 does nothing to improve the skill, it just improves your ability to get a current meta task you enjoy every time you go. Having the task lists become trivial is probably the laziest and least interesting way to "make slayer better". The latter part of the video is much more in line with what would actually improve the skill. Focus should be on making all current tasks become useful in one way or another as tasks should be fast, should be profitable, or provide account progression with very rare mixes at the highest levels(abyssals, smoke devils etc). Every task should be addressed and something updated to it to make it worth doing: Superiors for every slayer monster is absolutely mandatory and its a joke jagex havent done this yet Updated RDT while on slayer tasks with weighting of drops on the current average gp per kill of the monster( a monster with low value per kill gets higher chance per hitpoint to drop something good from a new RDT) new untradeable uniques for task specific benefits: i.e a giant skull to add to obors club for extra damage to giants, a dragonfire organ to add to the trident to ignore x% magic defense on dragons on task, a drop from pyrefiends to do damage to icefiends -> drop from waterfiends to do more damage to pyrefiends-> turn killerwatts into a lighting fiend for more damage to water fiends. The slayer helm you chose to wear does more damage to its counterparts - abyssal head is 25% bonus vs abyssals, kq is 25% vs kalphites. dark claw gives 25% vs lesser black and greater demons etc. Making slayer more interesting and palatable for most of the tasks you get is much healthier and better long term solution than just keeping the tasks limited to ones you find desirable. The idea should be to trying to have a player killing monsters in every corner of the map because its fun and makes sense for them to be there

You made a really good suggestion but I don't know if it's a necessary one, I think if your suggestion was implemented today it wouldn't be a big improvement over current slayer. The slayer system itself is malleable enough to where most of your frustrations can be circumvented. Unless you're some kind of speedrunner or ultimate ironman or something. Compare that to Nex or Forestry where you have to suffer because they're bad pieces of content. On a side note, I would never in my life trust Jagex to do an overhaul to Slayer. Even trying to just copy your ideas, they would mess it up and make everything terrible.

The black mask has basically the same defensive bonuses as an iron full helm, and frankly, it doesn't even need to have defensive bonuses at all seeing as it boosts DPS so much on task. There is no good reason as to why pures haven't been able to enjoy that damage boost for all this time.

Unfortunately it’s not safe to make the assumption that “level 3 accounts and pures” wouldn’t have fremennik trials completed. There was a bug that was widely abused not too long ago which allowed frem trials to be completed without gaining the quest exp reward. Jagex doesn’t do anything to remove those accounts from the game because “it doesn’t impact other players”. So there are lots of existing level 3s and special builds that have frem trials completed.

@@janitorizamped The problem is that slayer points are balanced around lategame slayer, so you barely have any points banked by the time you are in the 60's. The way you engage with the skill is completely different early on. You have to either spam Turael tasks to build up a point bank or do a bunch of awful tasks without skipping any. And while it's nice to say there is a reward structure with variance, some options like bigger and badder or the slayer helm/ring are so strong that you basically have to prioritize them before setting up efficient slayer. The skill is great once you have all that stuff, but it shouldn't be like doing a chore to get to that point. There should at least be some consistency in the gameplay across the level spectrum.
