My grandfather served jury duty 35 times in 45 years. How he came to do it that many times is a real mystery. He did however take jury duty very seriously and tried to be as fair and impartial as possible. He would say he aimed to be the type of juror he would want if he ever found himself in the position of a defendant. That is an admirable trait as you only need to look at the comments section in social media to see how biased and hateful some people can be even on the most trivial subjects.

I do believe it was due to her command of the English language and the understanding of the gravity of the moment.

I was once called for jury duty in a medical malpractice case. When they found out that I had a PhD in Biology and had taught college-level anatomy and physiology, neither side was interested in me and I was excused. That is the peculiar thing about our system of jurisprudence. It is not interested in coming to a just conclusion. It is only interested in winning and losing. If I had been the MD on trail, I would have wanted a PhD in Biology on the jury. But lawyers want a jury that will believe what the lawyers say without having the knowledge or judgement to assess their words independently. Lawyers want a jury of moldable clay.

Nobility are tried in the House of Lords by the other “Peers”, while commoners get a jury of commoners. In the USA, you did away with that class split so every adult is the peer of everyone else. You are never dismissed from jury duty due to factors such as your job or ANY reason that may be an inconvenience to you. I’ve been called for jury duty twice in my 50 years, and in January of 2007 (my first time) there was one man in our jury pool who actually had court for his divorce in the courthouse that day. He was asked who his judge was and when he told the attorneys and the judge for our case, they said that they would get word to his judge and that his divorce hearing would be rescheduled ASAP because he was selected as a juror. There are an infinitesimal number of reasons that will get you excused from the jury pool, your job is NOT one of them. And just to clarify, there’s a common misconception that registering to vote, particularly when renewing your drivers license or non-driver I.D causes you to be more likely to be called for jury duty. Nothing could be further from the truth. If you have a registered vehicle, pay property taxes, pay income taxes, etc., you can be summoned for jury duty.

The only people that are gonna find for a jury are retired or unemployed.. who can take six weeks off of work to be on a jury??

Not true. My job pays for any jury duty. Just depends on the job.

Not true here in the UK you get called and you are not allowed to refuse. You can go to prison and people do if you don't have a legit reason. Having a job is NOT good reason. One woman on my jury said she had to financial year end and the judge said utter nonsense, it's your civic duty and he refused her to stand down.

Based on this question we can expect the jury to be a group of unemployed people?

She is very wishy, washy. I think it the court had good reason to dismiss her. Those two contrasting senses... omg. She is so insightful.

If you think she should be a CNN contributor that alone is sufficient reason for her to not be on the jury. CNN is incapable of being fair to anyone not on the far left.
