After growing up on a sustainable farm, Jess has always had a deep connection to nature and wanted the place where she lived to be a strong reflection of that.

With a deep desire to slow down and disconnect from the hectic world, Jess made the decision to downsize her possessions and move into a tiny house on wheels which could reflect her values and give her a spectacular home that could be parked up in the wild. Her tiny home is absolutely stunning and has a luxury modern twist which creates a wonderful architectural contrast to the surrounding forest.

Here, she lives off the grid, collecting rain water from a nearby river and generating power via a generator. She washes dishes and clothes in water heated by the fire and lives a strong, independent lifestyle in the wild.

Never give up your dreams. Start with trying to work with wood and get use to the machinery. Get into 12 Volt electricity . And so on.

Both me and the OP were talking about security in general. Bryce visits tiny houses all over the world, and in some of those places security would be a major concern. I know it would be where I live.

her home is so small.. yet there is so much space... and even a big kitchen.. it looks so clean and tidy... and the exterior design looked cheap to me at first glance to be honest, but after she explained the style I saw it truly in a different light... this is so creative and beautiful :)..

I think a lot of money has been spent on the interior. The kitchen has an expensive fridge freezer and the units aren't cheap either, plus the bathroom is not a low budget spec either. I think she's made a great home. Her choices would not be my choices - I wouldn't have gone for the built in couch, the expensive fridge freezer or the underfloor heating. Solar power and a water system would have been a priority for me, but the best thing about tiny houses is designing them to suit ourselves.

@@wilmaknickersfit Underfloor heating is nearly mandatory in the far north. Without it, items will literally freeze to the floor. I've had it happen in my tiny-house, and I live in Tennessee. Moisture builds in the air and condensation collects under items on the floor. The condensation freezes and sticks whatever is sitting atop it to the floor. Plus, underfloor heating can be the most efficient way to heat a home when done properly. Very little energy usage.

@@mountainman4410 Thanks I've never heard about that happening before. If it gets that cold inside wouldn't you just keep the heating/fire on low during the night? Bryce has shown us lots of videos from US and Canada and I haven't noticed underfloor heating mentioned. I actually have underfloor heating in my house, but I only use it for frost protection because if I turn up/down the thermostat it takes too long to react.

@@wilmaknickersfit In a normal house with good skirting its a bit different than with a home on a trailer or on skids. I lived off grid in my tiny home for a little over two years and no matter how hot the inside was, the floors always stayed cold. The heat in the lofts would feel as though it were an oven. When your feet hit the floor though. It was a bit of a shock. Even though we have r19 insulation in the floors, the cold would seap through anyway. We did put up a skirting last year. That made quite a bit of a difference overall. As for instant heat, the in floor heating system isn't the best for that sort of thing. It's a "radiant" heat. Whereas it takes longer to feel the difference, once it has warmed up, the heat is retained and is much easier to maintain a constant temp. When an electric or other heaters that heat the air turn off, the heat dissipates quickly, and the heater must turn back on relatively fast. The floor has a tendency to hold the heat and keep things warm longer. Thermal mass is what's really going on. This is why I have a massive rock wall surrounding my wood stove. When the wall warms up, the rocks hold that heat long after the fire inside the stove has died. This help maintain a comfortable temperature longer.

Something about her is so relatable to a part of me. I love how she does her dishes, cooking, and laundry outside. Inspiring :) People (of all human species) have been doing everything we do now OUTSIDE and only recently (as in, the past few hundred years) it's become taboo, strange, or unheard of to do things as simple as washing or cooking outside. We've been doing it for thousands of years, and you know what? It might be for the best that we try to go back to that simplicity.

When you're only doing it on the weekends, it can seem romantic and you can pretend you've living the Little House on the Prairie lifestyle. In my g-g-grandmothers' day, they would have given anything to have running water INSIDE the house, to be able to cook INSIDE a house in AC or heat, to wash and dry clothes inside the house...with temps running from 115 to 18 degrees, think of the misery of "roughing it." There's nothing wrong with being comfortable.

So one thing I don't see you mention is what these tiny homes are like in storms. I live in the plains in a 38ft RV and sometimes the storms are so bad I feel like I'm on roughs seas. Other times it's so overly loud I can't hear anything at all. And the worst storms are absolutely terrifying. I understand these are sometimes built with better standards than RVs are, but I'd like to hear this kinda stuff in future videos too. But then again I'm probably in the minority with wanting to hear about stuff like that.

Tiny houses are much heavier than RV's and so are generally much more robust in storms. I've been in some pretty big storms in my tiny house and it was just like being in a home on foundations.

@Gray754 I'm in that minority with you. We know that extreme weather events are getting stronger and more frequent, and that would definitely be a consideration for me. A few months ago there was an episode with a fire-resistant tiny home that I found very interesting. More focus on extreme weather design would definitely be my cup of tea!

I'm sure you could look into where she could install a wood burning stove, something like the Spiroloc Little Wood burners. It can almost go anywhere, without much alterations to her space.

Stoves can be placed outside. Easy to do. Burn once a day to heat the cabin and thermal mass to extend the burn efficiency. She could have a sauna, outside space useful except during the coldest or most violent weather. All that free wood!

I'm honestly hooked on these videos, they have shown me another way of life, one that I wish I could adopt if my financial situation was different (ehm...better). Awesome! I left Nigeria at 18 and have only been back once, so I really cannot relate much, but it would be extraordinary if Nigerian millennials take up this minimalistic way of life. It would be fantastic for the environment and promote quality of life versus quantity and size, something lacking in the culture. Let’s hope.

Not only is her home, the land, and her lifestyle beautiful, but she has this amazingly beautiful feel about her where I felt that she's so kind and light in spirit. This is all so great and I love the layout of her home. The fact that she was able to stick with her love for a king size bed is something I resonate with a lot, because that's also important to me! Where you sleep, clean yourself, and eat are so important and I think she really nailed all of it

I know this is Canada, but as a bit of info, that is nearly impossible to do legally in the US. Doesn't mean that people don't do it, though. When you are in one of the tiny clusters of homes (say, 4 to 20) 100's of miles from the nearest town, there isn't a lot of law enforcement.

@@moreofawave It is highly regulated due to environmental concerns. The cost of getting all of the required permits and approvals would be prohibitive, and even then, anyone who find out about it in time and wanted to make your life miserable could delay it for years through environmental challenges. It would be very difficult in general to get plans approved for the diversion of a sidestream of water through a turbine electricity generator, and in a stream that contains or might contain an endangered specie, it would be impossible.

I have a rather small portable hydro generator that I use with my travel trailer. There’s a place deep in the wilderness that I camp for about 6 weeks at a time near a stream. I use this small unit when there so that I don’t have to rely on a generator. Solar is not feasible because of the forest canopy preventing enough sun to filter down. Mainly what it does is keeps my Lithium batteries fully charged by day and runs the lights at night. Since it’s not permanently installed it’s very easy to remove and doesn’t block the stream at all. She could definitely use one there, just don’t ask permission lol

This is such a lovely home! I wonder, is that a memorial to a beloved pet? If so, what a unique way to honor an old friendship! Through taxidermy, often I've found the animals to look frighteningly fake, and I think the pelt is such a lovely way to remind oneself how precious all life is! I love her decor and her bed loft is so cozy! Cute retro refrigerator and generally just adorable!

My concern is always security for this secluded home owners. Funny enough, i have never heard anyone mention anything to do with security. Here in Kenya its hard to even get a house built without metal grills on the windows. When i watch those crime shows on Netflix, i get concerned for daring people like her. Amazing house though and a beautiful life this is. Love it!

Speaking from someone who lives in a rural area in the United States at least, security is not an issue, as you are in the middle of nowhere and people don't go traveling through the wilderness to try and rob you.

I I would agree with that I have a place at the end of the forest however there is four houses going down snd a couple of people living in two of them. A lot of criminals don’t want to drive all the way out they don’t know who is at the end and what’s waiting down there for them. However dogs are good to have and so are guns!!! Better believe it!!

Yes, from so many of the comments, people do not realize that there is a big world out there and with people that are willing to do harm or to steal. I live in South Africa and that generator would be the first thing gone, then the house stripped of every last item and yes, a high likelihood of serious assault on the inhabitant. SA has the highest rape statistic in the world. So when some men and some women think that it is rubbish to act 'weak' and fearful...consider that not everyone has the good fortune to live in fairly peaceful places.

Asking about security is a valid question, only a fool would dismiss it out of hand. She would be wise to own a shotgun and be comfortable with using it if she had to. At the very least a big can of pepper spray. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

I think this is one of my favorite tiny homes. Beautiful space and design. I am impressed by her independent spirit and ability to adapt to things like not having running water. What she was cooking on her fire pit rack looked delicious!

When I discovered your program Bryce I immediately realized that this was the life for me! I currently grow my own food and with that said it is leading me rapidly towards building my own tiny home! I currently reside in Texas(not originally from texas) but I want to move to Washington State to the woods! And I assure you, the moment I have my tiny house built you are coming for an invite! just google ;) I assume it is up to you, and the weather conditions of the area.. you need to know how much you consume and resolve the sources with ecological solutions, the less footprint, the better for Pachamama

The lowest it gets is -20C (-4f) but that's on really cold years it normally sits around -5C (23f) in the place where she is, 2018/19 winter wasn't a very cold one, so the thick blankets at 7:13 are great. She also mentions earlier she has to get up to start the generator and I think I glanced an electric heater when they were talking about the laundry

You should see our tiny hoses in Aosta Valley or Trentino/Alto Adige 😍 Where tiny has always existed, combined with mountain decor. It is a shame no one from here invites you... If I were not shy I would invite you myself!

The home has some really lovely features (like the kitchen), but I have some serious concerns watching her drink water straight out of that river. She definitely needs to be using a water filter of some kind (even if it's one of the camping sort you hang). You can catch some pretty nasty things from unfiltered water, and it's important to maintain potable and non-potable water containers without cross contaminating.

Yep....fools forget about wildlife poop, infecting the water, in runoff from mountains. An entire town in the Carolina mountains, got real sick from Beaver poop running down the mountain, into the water. Nowadays, one cannot do that.

@@patriciafisher3108 Condensation, mold, things breaking in the middle of nowhere, leaks, hot lofts, obtaining insurance, back pain from short lofts or seating built more to fit instead of for comfort. This channel is bad about showing the 'great side' of stuff but you never see the problems with stuff which would very easily inflate to something huge in a small home out in the middle of nowhere such at this. These are all concerns people should bring up imo. The best layout and how to avoid pitfalls of previous owners would be nice to hear.

I also love the focus in the kitchen. If it has to be this small then I would go for the kitchen. Don't need much sleep space either or secondary beds or TV space or couch. I watch a lot if my programs and series on the computer so this is cute. Full fridge and oven are great and large sink

Beautiful home. Incredible women!!! She is BAD ASS!! I respect this one!! I'm a camper and love living like a pioneer, I'm on a river too, Camping, building fires, heating water and food on open fires. not in a rural wilderness like this Brave and InCREDIBLE women! BRAVO!!!!
