honestly, only true answer is the one you already know. if you want to do this job, be a comic artist, be an illustrator , be a designer.. you are in it because you love it, and because you want it. sure money is good but the satisfaction is better...for this you will fight as hard as you want it... for me it was 18 years of 8 to 10 hours of drawing a day pretty much every day . some take less some more. skill requires endless effort. i am far from satisfied with my quality myself...for now :)

Yes, I think that's the problem with a lot of artists starting out. You kind of have to let yourself go and not worry about everything being perfect from the get-go. I think the process is a lot like sculpting.

I've been a fan of nebs for a little over a year. I've been desiring to draw the way he does as I'm sure most of you have. Thing is, he's able to do this because that's him. I have my own personal tastes and aesthetics that don't allow me to mimic what he does 100% and I think that helps in canceling out frustrations of being exact. I love the way he paints, both flat and with the blender brush---those are 'styles' that can be practiced, but trying to force yourself to draw LIKE this won't work.

Also, for me, I've learned that sketching my characters on paper first and then bringing them into digital works far better than jumping right onto the Wacom. His years of experience allows him to throw down the way he does. I need more structure and guidance. From there I'm able to get the results I want. Some of you may want to try that first. An hour? Seriously, this only took you an hour to do? I was impressed before but now I'm down right amazed. Also, you have a damn good grasp on anatomy to not have to mess around with guide lines or anything like that. No way in hell would I be able to start out without doing that first.

For someone who must value doing things quickly, always surprised you've not using a colour wheel (saves those clicks of opening, selecting, closing and breaking the flow of painting). Something like "Coolorus" or "PaintersWheel" by LenWhite (google them as I can't post links in comment)

I draw using this method as well and love your technique it reminds me of some Indy artists from the 2000s Arthur Dela Cruz and Brett Weldele but with Dustin Nygen and Joe Jusko detail. Love the color and shade carving approach. Amazing work.
