Veneer is a thin layer of wood so they are actually not wasting anything. After they get the roll of veneer they are left with a wood rod.

What a waste of a nice piece of timber, couldn't they use thinner pieces to make these poles

@@evelynzinnauer348 The thickness of the piece is irrelevant, the problem is them using an entire log for each. Off the very top of my head, you could core out like 12 of those poles if you drilled them out with a hollow drill You could split the log vertically into many smaller pieces and perform this same operation on each chunk. Thats just two options of the top of my head, neither is great. There's a thousand actually good ways to do this, and this is none of them. Its actually hard to conceive of a more wasteful and inefficient machine

@@Urammar They are not making poles. They are shaving the log into thin sheets to use for laminated wood, plywood, and many other composite materials. There is a blade at the bottom but it is difficult to see. It shaves the log into one long thin sheet. The. The pole is used for dowel rods or something else. This has very little waste of the wood.

And I guess no one before me ever asked about it. Its amazing how many of those thin slices and how much glue goes into a sheet of plywood LOL
