Sharpening a kitchen knife sharpening on my Tormek T-8, with the tomato and paper trick!
Here I take another kitchen knife and give it some really nasty beatings.. It's 10 years old and has been discarded many years ago. So why not?!
Filming this took 1-2 hours but this can easily be done in about 5-10 minutes.. Or less if you stick with the SG-250 stone.
There's a lot of comments about sharpening knives on the Tormek T8 vs. flat stones. Some people prefer flat stones over a Tormek and of course.. I would do the same, if you only need to sharpen a couple of knives or one.
But when you sharpen 20, 50 or even 100 at the time, this machine can't be beaten by flat stones.
I use this for almost all my sharpening: axes, knives, gouges, turning tools etc. And of course for customers: scissors, kitchenknives etc.
ASMR for the people!

what a delight to finally see someone dressing and using a wet stone, and have it traveling towards the blade as it should. most of the so called tool sharpening videos make me wince when i see sparks flying of the metal on a dry stone that is revolving far far to fast.

There are far cheaper and superior methods to sharpen knives. It costs thousands of dollars to get a tormek with high grit stones. Sure it works with practice, but it almost seems like buying a $3000 can opener - what’s the point?

I am having difficult maintain the same bevel on both sides of the knive and so far can not figure out why. I also notice that a number of your fans/followers are encountering the same problem. @formgjortbyJonasAls
@formgjortbyJonasAls 27 днів тому
Hello Raymond Thanks for the question. Well, I think I decided to set the angle at 22 degrees (2 x 14, if I remember correctly), and from that proceeded. And next, you don’t have to strop after using the Japanese stone, as it is way more fine than the honing paste. Among a few things I did wrong in this video years ago, I used way too much much time on sharpening it, and I now know that when sharpening with a Tormek, you have to do the following: 5-10 continuous passes each on each side, then followed by 5-10 strokes one side at the time (switching side every single pass), and so you keep minimising the burr until it brakes off leaving a super razor sharp edge. Does that make sense?
