День томуIn this video, we use a Raspberry Pi Zero W and a speaker to make a cheap internet radio and audio player. This PiPlayer can also stream Spotify, Soundcloud and Google Music.

1. Raspberry Pi ( Zero W used in this tutorial but any version works)

I really appreciate this video. It was exactly what I needed to attach a basic headless radio streamer to my nice radio at work. Thanks for the tutorial and information! For those looking for the same solution, be aware that Pi Musicbox is no longer maintained and does not work with the Zero 2 W or Pi 4, but it worked like a charm with my Pi Zero W.

great video....but......technically you need a sound card as well as the speakers correct? could you also get an amplifer hat for this and just put your own speakers to it?

Very good. I have built it also.. There is only that thing with software - it has a lot functionalities but they are not all working... Is there any other software we can try with same equipment.. Ty in advance :)

Can you skip the soundcard-aux if you have usb speaker (it uses the usb interface instead of 3.5 aux)??

hi there, thanks for the vid! Instead of using the ODB cable and the usb sound card, could I use a micro sd ➡️ female headphone jack? Prevents me from buying all those cables

Just built it. Simplest one I tried yet and the only one that worked right out of the box, so to speak. Very clear instructions. Thank you DP. I'm disappointed that it just doesn't play the last selected stream on power up. Or is it operator error?

it's under Settings/Musicbox/Autoplay URI MusicBox can automatically start playing a stream or track at startup. The URI to use can be obtained from the Streams page, the track's popup menu, or get currently playing. e.g. stream.kissfm.de/kissfm/mp3-128/internetradio/

Can i combine the musicbox operation system with my Pi Hole Software. I use a Rasperry 4 with 4 GB of RAM its i little bit overkill i know

Great video, Look simple and easy hope all is well. this is my first time using Raspberry pi. i followed every step in the video, cannot get it to work. am i suppose to set up / config the Pi Zero before installing the musicbox? Pi Zero w is not connecting to the wifi / network. can not find the IP address to log in to Musicbox any suggestions?

The only setup you have to do is by changing the ini file to input your wifi name and password.

You can use any usb keyboard with the raspberry pi. You can use the Logitech K120 for instance.

I tried this. It does work but I can't get it to work on what I am guessing formats not supported. Is there a list of supported formats. Does anyone know of a similar project that includes a touch display or maybe a similar project with more sources for streams. Thanks

Unfortunately Bluetooth isn't yet supported by Pi MusicBox. Hopefully it will be added in a future update

It's hard to pair, BT and Raspberry + Linux is not a good combination. If you can SSH into the pi, you technically can connect to a BT speaker.

Not so cheap as you say. Only Rasp Pi zeroW make over 15$, +psu + speakers + sound card + otg cable + sd + aux cable. Perhaps under 40$!!!

As cool as your instructions are I am trying to see the practicality to this, a cheap tablet connected to some speakers or even a echo dot with voice control seems more practical/easier. Thanks though.

Well, one of the main arguments will be the cost. The raspberry pi zero W costs less than a tablet. Also, it's not just about practicality. One can find it a fun little project they can begin on a raspberry pi - especially people who are just getting started with tinkering on the rpi! That's kind of the good thing about owning the raspberry pi. It's very versatile!

From the video, the system seems to be connected to a computer, why not play radio from the computer directly. You will save $ 15. May be I am stupid.

I am stupid too...i havent seen such useles thing. Imagine, gonna to cabin, must have notebook, module has no controls bututons, even display...omg...you are right. This module can use for one radio station only, to change it, must spend half hour with computer.....really stupid idea, just 15$ + one pc only...

Ill give it a try, as Logitech killing its squezebox in next few days, and i have to find alternative and i have a spare pi0 and everything else. So if it will work ill save some money for buying new radio
