Nothing better than seeing an OCD detailing enthusiast/professional detailer do work on their own new daily driver. I think that's when most of us truly unleash and go absolutely ALL out because it's yours to drive and enjoy every day. And that's not taking anything away from how good your work is on your customers' cars, it's just that we always go that extra mile for own cars, IMHO.

As someone that's a qualified painter, and been doing this all my life, and can tell you everything about Detiling. The best thing without being rude. I agree with this comment. What you do is on a different level, Sometimes for better and for the detriment, usually to yourself and physiology :) I have friends like you, They are So Anal (There not even Greek) Everything has to be perfect, and untill its better than perfect, they cant relax, and due to that no one else around them dare relax :) How ever, there is one person you want with tis unhealthy condition, and that is defiantly, your detailer. This is rare, and your detailer being like this is only beneficial to the customer, and is very hard to find.

Time to hire someone to Video and Edit your work. No reason you shouldn't have 1/4 million subs. You just need to be able to post more content. It would be worth it to try for a few months and see if you can start getting out a video every week or two.
@STATUSDETAIL
@STATUSDETAIL 3 місяці тому
I agree with you. But I might need to film a little different to have a editor. Or just show them the chaotic way I edit lol. Because I'd need to voiceover there edit. Unless I just kinda vlog it and they edit the story together. But a video editor is definitely possible.
@TheBCMSB
@TheBCMSB 3 місяці тому
I see the challenge. Having a person in charge of videoing while you work will help navigate the editing process and create the structure (story board) you're looking for. I like the longer videos but consider chopping up videos into shorter 15 minute segments, with less detailed narration, . At the end of a project you can promote the full series in a laid back podcast, while you and your team enjoy your favorite beverages, where you can dive deeper into the details. Posting more frequently is the key @@STATUSDETAIL
@STATUSDETAIL
@STATUSDETAIL 3 місяці тому
@@TheBCMSB right and Definitely want more frequent posts! I try to keep videos around 20-25 mins. Basically a old school TV show time minus commercials lol. This was a monster of a project though. Yep, get a more recent B9.5 (2020+); there are many improvements that make it worth it. Some, in case of the RS5, include engine internal fixes to improve longevity. Btw, I have one of these Ascari RS5’s as well - amazing car. Get a 2021+ RS5 Sportback if you can, as it’s quite an all around near supercar. I traded my 2021 S5 convertible for the RS5 (I made the mistake of driving one and fell in love) - the S5 was a beautiful car as well (interior basically the same) and had decent performance stock but can be modded for more if you want. If you go the S5 route, try to find one with the Prestige pkg, as it comes with amazing laser lights and other goodies you can’t get on the lesser packages.

I just finished an 18 month project along the same lines. After work, weekends, I couldn't even guess at the number of hours but know it's well over 1000. What started with a valve cover gasket replacement led to the complete rebuild of the top end of the motor. Almost blueprinted. Everything OEM: Seals, gaskets, any rubber vacuum line replaced with silicone, new plugs, cable management, etc. New alternator, PS pump, radiator, water pump, all belts, rebuilt throttle body, and on and and on. Once the motor was done, I went to close the hood and noticed some leaves in the recess where the hood arms go. Turns out the windshield drains down the inside of the fender and that was basically full of mulch. That led me on a rust-prevention campaign, which eventually got me into the interior when I found the sunroof tray was leaking because the drain tubes were petrified with a kink in them, so completely blocked. Once on the interior I went about fixing all the things I knew needed fixing. All bulbs went to LED, sunroof drive belt replaced (and the drain tubes), new speakers, new wiring, added a Zapco small Class D monoblock just in case I wanted to run a sub later down the road. Even added a backup camera. I took the interior down to the paint. Seats out, disassembled, skins shampooed, etc. All plastic moldings taken out, scrubbed, cleaned. All carpet up, all butyl removed. Even took the dash out. Twice (FML). Dynamat the whole thing and rebuild. So the kicker is... this was all done on a 1990 4runner with 260k miles. The motor was actually a warranty replacement due to a manufacturing issue where the oil ports were too small and it starved the block with not enough circulation. A few of them just got leftover crate motors instead of a rebuild. So... a 260k 4runner with 80k on the motor. I'm the second owner. But I bought it off a high school friend of my parents. I was on the camping trip back in summer when he showed up with it for the first time and I remember thinking how cool it was. I think that, gaining mechanical experience with the vehicle, and a reason to not sit in front of the computer working all day played equal parts in the inspiration to keep at it. I don't regret the time spent, I'd do things a bit differently a second time. But if anyone asked me 'How much?' for a job like that, I would just laugh and sigh.

If you survive learning and getting proficient then you need to desire to struggle more and get into more advanced techniques and raise your standards for installs. PPF is very mental. It will beat you up. If you reach this point you can go for the 1% install crazy advanced techniques and having a process so perfect that you virtually never redo panels. Most quite before the last two levels because they properly lost there mind and couldn't stand losing any more money. If you make it past the first hurtle and almost quit and have no desire to learn more because you hardly got here. then that's the shop that usually doesn't charge much and doesn't do great work. Man I wish I could autopilot behind a polisher but normally I’m a nervous wreck 😂 The way you describe it reminds me of that Zen and the Art of Archery book big time. I would say I get zen-mode doing interiors. Throw a headlamp on and next time I look at my watch it’s 1:30am but fully energized. Moments like that is why I chase this stuff. That RS5 is sick, excellent choice 💪
@STATUSDETAIL

Thanks! I think that Zen mode feeling happens when you're doing almost anything that you know you're extremely confident in your skill set and that there's virtually nothing you won't be able to handle. And you've just done that so many times that your brain kind of recognizes what's happening before it happens and you can just do everything very efficiently. I most certainly cannot do that with PPF yet. When I'm doing PPF I'm very mentally tuned in to be like what in the world do I have to do to make this perfect. But when I do paint correction I really don't have to think that hard about it. So I totally understand your interior mindset. I think that just means you're very very good at doing interiors.

It's always best to seek a service from a person who's excited to do the work versus just happy to make the money but doesn't want to clean all though nasty stuff out of the back seat of someone's kid car for example. In my opinion you just get a different caliber of work when it's like your passion project is also your work project in the customers just win big in this situations. I try not to put crazy timelines on myself either I book pretty reasonable amounts of time to do customer cars. The problem with my personal cars is I have unlimited time and then it's spirals out of control lol

@STATUSDETAIL

Some people do it to new cars. I personally would not do this. I think it's a great idea when you buy a used car that might be 2 years old or 3 years old. It's a really good idea on a car that's maybe four or five years old that's in good condition but seems to need hydration. The older the car gets the more it can help but there's a cut off point where the letter might just be too roughed up. Ideally you want to keep a new car new and do this every year or two and it'll really prolong the leather life

Best method is to get in the car in a way that doesn't have you rubbing that spot. Especially on the GT3 Porsches I put a foot in. A hand in door sill. @STATUSDETAIL
@STATUSDETAIL 3 місяці тому
@@burb17 In situations were bad smells get stuck in a car is 99% of that smell is going to be stuck in something fabric so the headliner removable carpets and not removable carpets on the floor. But also the fabric that's usually on the pillars around shoulder right and up. If the smell is really bad or lingering and you can't get rid of it I would personally try it tide and water in a spray bottle and spray it into the places you can't extract and then wipe it out Don't be afraid to do this a couple times just make sure you're spreading it out a couple hours apart or even a few days apart so you don't oversaturate. The floor mats are an easy one because you can remove those so you can really go to town and then just don't put them back in the car until you know they're fully dry. The carpet underneath the removable carpet you can do a nice extraction with tide but that is one of the places you need to be careful how much moisture you're putting in. It's best to do that kind of stuff on a hot day and then leave the doors open in the sun and let it air out quicker. In the winter time you have to be careful because you can get a lot of humidity trapped in the car once you shut the doors. After doing my car I had a bit of a tide smell in it for a week or two but then it kind of faded to just being a normal nice smelling car. Kind of the same way new clothes out of the laundry smell like laundry detergent but after you leave them in your closet for like a week and don't wear them the smell will naturally fade away. The point is a dirty laundry smell that was on before is gone in the same thing goes for your car. Good luck!

22:25 as an audi tech, the a5 series cars have the worst cabin filter placement. like almost all the others are the exact same but for some reason its recessed in the a5s and way more annoying. dont know why the did that on these. also a tip, assuming you have cpo coverage. right before the end of cpo bring it in to a dealership and say you had a coolant low warning. these V6s have a common issue where the water pump fails and leaks internally and coolant spreads through all the vacuum lines. its a 6-7k repair if out of warranty. beatiful car nonetheless.

@STATUSDETAIL
@STATUSDETAIL 3 місяці тому
It's probably my favorite smelling detail product! You can definitely mist it on seat and carpets. Wipe dry with a microfiber. The smell won't last to long unless you soak it and I don't recommend that. For legitimate fabric seats meaning not alcantara you can use something like tide diluted in water for maintenance too. This is also a great way to actually clean fabric. If you have a little stain or dirt on cloth seats. Just don't rub to much or you can begin to fray the fabric. Multiple light passes is better than a few hard passes

I miss going though this process on my dream toy. It’s so satisfying when it’s yours. The zen you’re talking about is called Flow State. When you’re proficient and passionate about a skill, you enter that flow state when you’re performing it.

What's your recommendation for blue jean dye transfer removal? that's been my kryptonite lately :)
@STATUSDETAIL
@STATUSDETAIL 2 місяці тому
Recommendation 1 Don't wear blue jeans. Lol But we all do. So ceramic coat your leather and keep up with monthly or every other month fast cleanings with gyeon leather and a gyeon brush. Light pressure fast passes on seats that get used. Reapply gtechniq leather guard every 6 months if it's a big problem. It's fast and easy to install
@talkingwithcars
@talkingwithcars 2 місяці тому
@@STATUSDETAIL fair enough...but I'm going through my mid-life crisis and Jeans are a requirement...lol. I actually did install a sealer on the MBTEX, but it still dyed the surface. and cleaners are mild even when they do say strong....so it's not enough to remove the remaining blue from the leather. UGH.....wish there was something that would simply dissolve it off and then I can reapply a better coating.

What does the oil based leather cleaner do to the stitching on the seats? I'd be worried about discoloration.
@STATUSDETAIL
@STATUSDETAIL Місяць тому
From my experience and from what you can see in this video it doesn't do anything to it. Just make sure you do the proper steps after with prestine clean and then that light cleaning with Gyeon leather again afterwards.

I bought a 2020 Audi S4 which has 99% the same interior as yours, with 20k miles, and would like to do about the same as you did in the interior. I have Gyeon interior detailer right now. Can I use this instead of prep? I was thinking of doing gyeon leather cleaner with their brush followed by Meguiars leather conditionner (because I already have it), finishing the rest with interior detailer. I'll try to rent a mat extractor to clean up the carpet. Did you find an alternative to that piano black center console part? Thanks for awesome video!
@STATUSDETAIL
@STATUSDETAIL 3 місяці тому
Thanks for watching! I think your mixing steps up. Gyeon leather cleaner mild is the main system to restore matte leather. Use the brush too. Advanced is following that with leatherique. I use Oreo after gyeon leather cleaner or if I go leatherique I do gyeon leather again then prep If you have gyeon interior detailer detailer that works just like prep. I'm not a fan of meguires leather products.
@Alex-fo1rx
@Alex-fo1rx 3 місяці тому
What's the difference between prep and interior detailer for the interior? I don't have leatherique products. I'll buy them to restore and maintain the leather seats. What is Oreo? So basic cleaning is gyeon leather cleaner mild followed by gyeon interior detailer and advanced is the same first 2 steps then leatherique 2 steps then again with the first 2 steps. For everything else in the car, gyeon interior detailer does it. Any other products I should get? Let me know if I get this wrong or any other input. Thanks!
@STATUSDETAIL
@STATUSDETAIL 3 місяці тому
@@Alex-fo1rx prep and interior detailer are basically the same thing. I just wouldn't use interior detailer on paint. But I would use prep on paint and on interior. So basically just by prep. When I asked gyeon some hard questions they didn't really have some great answers. Bottom line is are both very similar and have a decent amount of alcohol in them. You get to say things like this when you're not backed by any companies or accredited with any companies lol. I just telling how it is. Sorry that must have been a typo or autocorrect. Oreo was prep. Everything you said was accurate but if you're going to do the full leatherique then I would just do leather cleaner and then you can just basically go in to the oil. Prep before is overkill. But you can do it if your a above and beyond guy lol. Theoretically it'll make sure the leather is cleaner so the oil is more accepting. Leatherique or however it's spelled. Prep Gyeon leather mild Gyeon leather brush Gtechniq leather guard if you want leather ceramic to pick it all in. Towels. That should be it

I've been searching for a nice set of wheels for my M4 F82, but I can't find one which would fit the need nicely. I tried to find other persons who have already bought those wheels but the colour of the car wasn't the same as mine so I couldn't imagine how they would fit my car. How did you choose these wheels?
@STATUSDETAIL
@STATUSDETAIL 3 місяці тому
Just jumped on the Forge Light website and looked at what they had. This was my favorite. They have a new design that's similar to this now. It's probably what I'll do on a future car. Also available in magnesium! They can also render your car with wheels in it. So you can see it! Reach out so they can help. The link is in my video description. 👍
