I bought a home in 82. The Garage had this same fire Place. This has been around 40 years they work great but they have to have The tube vent with shutter Going up and out the craling as a fire place. So You don.t get afixiated.and They find you dead with a smile on your face. Cause You were proud of the job you did.

I highly recommend you burn all the paint off every single part of that before cooking food in that. Paint chemicals being burnt are VERY toxic. Otherwise, awesome build!

Very nice project. I would take the liberty of giving some tips in order to improve, somehow, this stove/barbecue. 1) I would have use adobe and chicken wire instead of bricks. Less work and less portland cement. 2) The casts in the bottom are going to collapse simply because they are attached with self tapping screws, that overtime mil get loose. In the event that making this nice work of ingenuity movable,I would have welded a strong metal base and fix strong metal casts with welding as well. 3) Instead of self taping screws for the doors I would had used bolts and nuts or simply weld the hardware Please excuse my uncalled and presumtuous comments, I just trying to find a better approach to make your amazing creation a lot more durable. Put the burning wood on the bottom section and your meats on the grill located on the middle section and close the lid on the top with a small adjustable hole to let some smoke out and what you have is a slow-cooked Texas-style barbecue! Smoke the meats for 6-9 hours and the meats will be super tender, fall right off the bones and full of smoky goodness! Try it and you'll love it!

Good idea. Imagine the possibilities with a few adaptions grid wise inside and on top. Solid round plate on top for cooking an entire meal. Inner thin solid plate for pizza, bread, roasts etc. Will emit nice radiant heat as well in winter. How about a coil of copper tubing on the inside also with a water feed? Hot water....
