Thank you for the extensive review! I gotta hand it to Xiaomi for really advancing the state of phone photography and filmmaking. The addition of a charging grip, variable aperture, and filter ring really makes this a complete kit. Add to that their work on exposure modes and an in-camera “ND” like mode and we see a company that is taking smartphone cameras to a new level. I hope Apple is paying attention. Thanks Again Simon 👏🏻

I recommend using a 67mm MC UV filter in all yr shots. Zoom shots comes out more detailed & less fuzzy. I'm having a good quality Multicoated UV filter on my 13U with camera kit & very happy with the results.

Hey Simon... great in depth review... i am planning on buying xiaomi 14 ultra... but for me front camera is of utmost importance... do you think it is software related issue and hence can be fixed or do you think it is hardware related shortcoming... Would have loved a PDAF here... Great rear camera config only to be ruined by a wasted front camera hardware...

Finally a UKpostsr that speaks calmly and in proper English. How delightful. This seems to be a very promising phone. I especially like the variable aperture, which I'm used to on my so-called proper camera. All the video functionalities I find less interesting. By the way, the 13 Pro does also have similar log possibilities, doesn't it? The only draw back, however, is its OS. I'm just not keen on MIUI nor HyperOS, but Nova Launcher can be a blessing to some extent. I'm by the way curious how this phone holds up to the upcoming Xperia 1 VI.

Xiaomi 13 Pro stock camera has only 8-bit log video. You can get 10bit video with third party mcpro24fps or motioncam

Very important question you may be able to answer: in what codecs does the Xiaomi 14 ultra record video in and most important when in log what is the format recorded and at what bitrate especially for 4K 24, 30 60 fps. Cannot find an answer on the web and this would be important info.

Extended depth of field gives you more in focus near the subject only. For example food in the plate, with extended FOW a part of the table will also be in focus.

I've seen reviews talk about a mediocre portrait mode on the 14U. Then I saw this video and figured - I'll just use the main lens' natural DOF and skip portrait mode altogether because the lens itself is already pretty good. But yes, would definitely like to see improvements made to the front camera's HDR. Xiaomi's missing a large market of people if this phone can't perform for video calls or front facing content creation.

If you see in the settings you can actually change if your selfie cam focus on making your face beigter or have the correct exposure its called metering in the camera settings

Last year I took 20 000 pictures in Lofoten Norway. I have many cameras cos I need to experience as much as possible to understand what is going on. My best camera is a fuji X-T100. I have for a long time been wondering what to upgrade to. I never thought it would be a phone. Now I am not sure anymore. I cant find a video yet on youtube of someone comparing a real camera to this phone, and I need to get some pixelpeeping going cos its zooming in that pictures fall apart. Almost any camera takes pictures that look good on youtube when not zooming in. I have been wondering to get the Panasonic S1 and even the Fuji GFX 100S for photographing paintings for reproduction/prints. But with this AI coming , its all going to change and the AI can "fix" my paintings for me before I print them. Great video. Thanks a lot

Thanks a lot for this video, i was able to see stuff none other video showed me before and i watched a lot of them. I'm curious, can you shoot raw or ultraraw whatever it's called on all fixed focal lengths with it? i can't seem to find any info about this anywhere.

The camera is amazing yes, but the charging is equally amazing if not more so. 80 watt Wireless Charging, that is insane. Charge this up double as quick wireless as Samsung with wired. Samsung and Apple wireless charging I believe 15 watt.

Great review! I wonder if this phone has 'real' 960 fps slow motion. Almost all smartphones since the Huawei P40 have 240/480 fps interpolated to a fake 960 fps. I can't find anywhere if that's also the case with the Xiaomi 14 Ultra. Does anyone know?

I ask this question because during the presentation of the official Xiaomi Global version it was announced that the battery was 5000mAh for the Global version. Hello, does the Xiaomi 14 Ultra Global version you tested have a 5300mAh battery? I ask this question because mine has a 5300mAh battery. And let me be clear, it's a Global version. While at the presentation of the official Xiaomi Global version, it was announced that the battery was 5000mAh for the Global version even on their official website it's 5000mAh. This is the reason for my question and my concern. Normally, the 5300mAh version was only intended for the Asian market. Thank you for your reply.

Man that's a nice camera. Hows the phone software? Bearable? I had the Mi 11 Ultra and it was a great piece of hardware but the software let it down with all the bugs and jank and software updates were few and far between. I'm sure it's better now but still dunno if I trust them enough to pay the $$$$

as a professional who uses a canon mirrorless camera, i heard this phone was amazing, im sorry but these results are far off from a professional camera, the 4k120p looks like a real camera 1080p or maybe 720p. that 8k looks like 2.7k, the exposure changes too fast, the hdr effect is really weird, the focus is all over. it probably looks good than other phones, but im not ultra impressed. it looks like any phone results, which is fine. anyone who hasnt gotten better would be blown away by this, i used to be like that, until i made the jump to a real mirrorless camera. anyway, good review keep it up.

from what I see he mostly covers the smart features like movie mode and ai features etc. these ofc rely a lot on processing and ai(hence the shoddy quality). I tried the 13 ultra myself and the bokeh performance when taking normal photos was actually impressive. I think anybody who takes photography semi-seriously will probably just use raw mode to take their photos and in that respect, the 14 ultra might have the highest capacity out of any phone to produce the most convincing result.

You need to try the Xiaomi 13 Ultra and Xiaomi 14 Ultra 50MP Full res main camera. The quality is DSLR like. And I have a Sony A7R 5

You are right to some degree, the sensor is smaller and the optics it small too so the resolution in details won´t be the same as big size lens and sensor. It needs to software magic, like photo stacking. Without it I think it wont be able to compete with big cameras. So it could look worse and less detailed. But when you use pro software for RAW video it is very close in quality to pro camera, not the same but the difference is not so big when you look at the price difference. I have 13 Ultra and not use stock cam for video most of the time because to me it is not looking like I want it to look. The main cam is good, the smaller ones are good during the day, but at night the quality goes down faster in the small sensors.

@@theo7617 Main is usable but secondary sensors in 50MP are horrible quality :). It is too small to use for 50MP resolution. In main sensor you can zoom more in the photo in 50 MP but when you zoom more you see many artifical artifacts and see that the quality is worse than in 12.5 MP mode that has less artifical things. Because 12.5 mp mode uses binning smaller pixels to bigger 3.2 micron ones, so the photo is higher guality. For 50 MP it is good to use GCAM this could help to take out most of this 50mp because of stacking frames and other magic. But every phone still need software magic to have the quality look. I have 13 Ultra and still testing it after few months. After that time I see some negative things and some positive :).

AI option is that the phone detects what its taking a photo of and adjusts colors accordingly for that scene ie food, plants, flowers, documents etc and the BETA feature is sharpening 30x and beyond shots using AI. So as you can see the 2 AI modes are completely different to each other.

Hey Simon, Please try Motioncam Pro on this beast cause it can do 14 bit HDR video even in Direct LOG video. If you do 8K binned , you will get the most detailed 4K video ever. Edit: Also motioncam can record video with lut baked in 10bit ( 14bit in 14 U) .

Mate you just purchased an 1 year old phone for new iPhone really?. Could have waited & made better decision Xiaomi 14, 14 pro & 14 Ultra are all Top tiers. It obviously beats any smartphone camera interms of everything from Photography to Videography. It is even better in video than 15 pro max. You get same video quality of Xiaomi 14 - iPhone 15, Xiaomi 14 pro - 15 pro & Xiaomi 14 Ultra > iPhone 15 pro max (especially low light videography).

3.2x telephoto have some serious problems, first at 4:24 exposure and colours jumps like crazy, then at 5:01 monstrous aberrations.
