im just gonna say, that villager from the start (the one that you traded with) was a nitwit. they cant trade. that means that he placed the villager there on purpose just bc he needed carrots

You do have to keep in mind that there are a lot of mods and it could be an older version, in older versions you could trade with all villagers. It could be that the mod changed it or he's just playing on an older version for the sake of the mod :)
