Pity to see Momota not at his 2018 form after the accident and Covid. Wonder if the outcome would have changed if both this beast were at their best form. Good game nevertheless.

during Momota’s peak back in 2019-2020, he managed to beat LZJ but in a tight score 21-19. But at that time LZJ was not on his mature form yet. Imagine if peak Momota vs peak LZJ 🔥

@@vuha5000 back then, prime momota would return almost any shot, it wasn't necessarily his attacking and shot placement that made him so great. It was his immovable defence

The only thing different between them both is their preperation. Other than that, they performed as equal to their preparation. Such a shame, Momota could've done better but let's not kid ourselves here, Zii Jia was just a different breed tonight. Tomorrow should be more of a challenge for him.

Zii Jia was brilliant in all aspects of his game, and was extremely smart in playing out his tactics. "Zii Jia was near perfect in the first game, and was smart to save his energy in the second. In the third, he switched his play at the interval and that made the difference. He was simply superb.

Man Momota’s era really is over; he’s still in the top tier, but no longer dominating. On the other hands, now with Axelson slightly ahead of everyone else, the top spot in MS is really for anyone to grab and compete.

In positions where LZJ hit winner smashes, Momota just played drops or 50% smashes, he's not going to dominate anymore if he can't return everything perfectly and still not play smashes and win points.

@@uchoang627 he's not that young anymore. If he were 24, I wouldnt say that because he's still yet to reach his peak. Now he's 27, opponents like LZJ LKY are only gonna get better and better as they age toward their peak, but momota has to train really hard to stay in his current form, let alone improving. Maybe this is it. And I genuinely hope I'm wrong.

Lee zii Jia was going all out attacking. Momota was playing safe. Playing to win vs trying not to lose, that is the main difference.

Momoto became a fraction slower, may be due to covid or accident. That changed the whole game for him seem like. But Zee J is awesome young guy.

The car accident took his eyesight, covid took his stamina, his body shape is not like itself in 2019-2020, and his age is also matter everything change but in negative side, i dont think we can ever see The Samurai on the court again

eyesight is already healed. the longest period of losing stamina due to covid is around 3,4 months. the only thing that make sense is his body shape. maybe he is not as fit as before. age I dont think so. bcs lin dan, lee cw still can play well in their age

@@dma23 seeing how Momota played ever since his car crash and all this covid business I'm not that surprised. He was a mess even in the olympics which he played on home court. In the last tournament German Open he again looked completely helpless on court and went out in first round. He used to be a machine on court and just wear the opponent down. Now he will play two good rallies and then drop his focus completely and lose the next couple of points from easy mistakes and lack of effort

Momota does not have shots to hit winners, on the other hand Lee Ji zia was able to hit winners at will, i do not think height is the issue, Lee chong wei was also not that tall but was able to hit killers smashes.

Momota speed has drastically gone down hill and it’s so obvious that even his footwork is different. It seems to me that Momota actually forgot how to play rather than LZJ made some drastic improvement.

@@luisl8851 his god's gift stamina has gone for now so he cant play as he was before for now,back then at his peak,he used a heavy racket,high tension and an optimal strategy which all consume a lot of stamina and he was still able to win over 10 tournaments a year and just slightly tired which was so amazing.But now,the fact that he can easily gas out in third set which is such of a shame,hope that he can get back to his best soon.And i think LZJ has not been improving so much yet,i watched several matches of him recently,there is no doubt about his smashes but his net play was just terrible for the top tier and lower class players are taking advantage of it,if lzj can improve his net play,he definitely can go further

@@uchoang627 its true...but i dont thing his physical ability is the issue...but it is a mental issue thus it affected his gamplay...it seems he stumbles a brick wall...same goes with ginting who also had a same rise as momota few years ago...both of them somehow have a mental block to perform...as for lzj yup his net play at that time is still a problem as last year...but i dont agree about the lower class player...yes he lost some games with lower rank player but their gameplay are strictly rally game which is not good for attcking players like lzj...tbh he doesnt have enough time to improve his net play after he left the national team and his coach didnt joined his team until late feb...but after all england his net play has improve dramatically but still a lot of improvement can be made especially on his rally game

@@clover325 im trying to say he can be a champion with his skills had he play like how he did here. why compare him with worse players ? he should bench himself against the likes of viktor, momota, lindan and lcw that maintain consistency to improve. he definitely struggled against lower tier players in initial rounds because of pressure of losing to unranked by alot of unforced errors. why be defensive joker. what semis u mean ? like hylo or bali when alot of players retire and most top players werent there ?

@@of8ightandse7en16 i believe he will achieve that stability this year as thts one of his target. but as you can see, those players tht youve mentioned theyre more experienced than him like way more, he just entered top 10 in 2020 and compared to them he is likely to have such unstable performamce, more years to come he will overcome it. Also im being defensive but not on every part. Pls note as i said SEMI in 2022 bali and etc where top players arent around was last year smh

Key points: - Momota is still better at the net - LZJ smash is 30% more powerfull - Momota's footwork speed and stamina has declined a lot. I don't think It will be easy for Momota to get at the same level speed-wise, but maybe he should get to gym and instead of playing 50 long rallies for which he has not speed and stamina like in old days, just send an unpredictable power smash here and there.
