We will take a look at the new goalie for the Philadelphia Flyers Ivan Fedotov as he took on the New York Islanders in a crucial late season battle. We'll cover all that and more in today's NHL hockey video!

If anybody is intrested, Fedotov went to the wrong side of the ice because in KHL, where he played before coming to the NHL, teams dont switch sides going into OT

I think there’s gonna be a lot of respect for Fedotov around the league for what he went through to get here and then to play as well as he did. If Fedotov doesn’t stand on his head for the second the Flyers don’t even get a point outta that game. Coulda been 6-2 at the end of the second period without him. Guy faced 17 shots in the second period. Torts said after the game he was the only Flyer who showed up tonight. He was the story of the game for sure.

FedOtov is the correct stress in Russian. However, the rules of stress in English names are different, and native English speakers often tend to put the stress on a different syllable that naturally feels more fitting for them. For instance, the Blue Jackets broadcasters have VorOnkov, MarchEnko and PrOvorov, when the correct stress is VoronkOv, MArchenko and ProvOrov. Another glaring example is Carolina's KochEtkov (as per broadcasters) vs. the correct KochetkOv.
@sergiomarucci24 дні тому
Another interesting thing is how stressed/unstressed vowels work. Fedótov would sound more like Fye-Doh-Tahv, Mar-chyen-kahv, Prah-voh-rav.
@user-ke9lp4rs5x21 день тому
All I can say is that if you want to know how to pronounce these Russian players' names, learn Russian. Actually Russian people themself don't matter where the stress, the stress usually comes naturally when speaking Russian fast enough. Most common ending family name in Russian are in and ov (ev) . Names with ending "in" usually have the stress on the syllable before it, names with "ov" ending usually on the "ov" itself, names with ending "ev" should not have the stress on "ev" syllable. That's just the rule of thumbs because Russian language has a lot of expceptions. For example, for me. "Fedotov" has 2 stresses on 2 syllables with "o", but one of the stress is harder.
@user-ke9lp4rs5x21 день тому
@@sergiomarucci That's because in Russian, o will be pronounced like a (lthe same sound can be found in Australian English if you look at the IPA) if there is no stress on it, the e sound would be 'eee" when there is no stress.

@Eggsie395Місяць тому
Never been a fan of the Flyers, however, the underdog story they have been pulling off right now, exceeding expectations and disproving those who thought they would be even worse than last season is something incredible, it makes it hard to not root for them. Their goalie situation is sucky right now and I am sure they are feeling the heat, although a goalie that size should be good. I hope they can cling on to that 3rd divisional spot!

@user-ee5mw8xf7lМісяць тому
He wanted to go to NHL after a successful season with russian CSKA, but the club wanted him to play for a couple more years. After he refused, some higher ups retaliated and, due to CSKA being tied with russian army (CSKA stand for Central Sports Club of Army), sent him in the army in abrupt manner. It is really easy to evade mandatory service in Russia (health issues, University, bribes, connections, just-not-taking-a-delivered-letter), unless they want specifically you. Basically extreme communication issues between the club and the player + somebody in said club being petty as hell.
