interesting variant of Tunesian Crochet. One side looks like the knitted elastic rib pattern for waistbands / cuffs. Or like brioche. The backside has an interesting texture as well.

It is important to use a larger than usual (for the specific yarn) needle for Tunisian crochet. Then it is easier to get the hook through - but the fabric will be a bit loose. Not ideal for a wind breaker ;) and could have consequences for stretchyness and integritiy of form. For beginners I recommend a beginner-friendly yarn. Well twisted (so it appears like a single strand) and a smooth (not a fluffy or knubbly / uneven) thread. Yarns where the individual strands are very noticable * are not beginner friendly. If The strands are not well twisted into one thicker strand you can get easily in between the 3 ? strands with the hook or needle. In many cases there will be 3 strands, that make up a thread. * That's for people that have good skills, else you will often pull through only a part of the thread, leaving behind 1 or 2 strands. That can be visible as a flaw and it can weaken the fabric, it is more likely the thread will break at that spot and you get holes easily. * a yarn that is not much twisted: it is more or less like two or three strands that are simultanuously used together - IF the knitter / crocheter is successfull in getting them through all at once ;) One can also do that intentionally, taking two balls of the same yarn = "taking it double" to have a thicker material to work with. Or combing two different yarns to get more thickness or to get a tweed effect when combining colours or differently structured threads. But that is NOT for beginners. you would be setting up yourself for frustration. This yarn in this video is pretty good. The needle is not much thicker than usual (it does not look like that) but is a loose texture nontheless. A skilled crafts person can knit or crochet in a loose manner, and it will look even. Else it is helpful to rely on a bit larger needle number to get the exact same amount of looseness with all stitches and rows. A bit more than usual (I heard two numbers in another video, that seems to be a bit much. One has to try it out. The looser the fabric the easier it will lose its shape and the easier it is to pull a thread and get damage. The needles should be large enough for easy work progress, but not more than that else the garment can lose its shape: with washing or even with wearing. The textil industry is guilty of that. Very loose knits and the sweaters do not hold the form and can easily damaged when one pulls a thread. Also likely more pilling - mor surface is exposed. A lose enough texture gives a nice drape for a sweater (unless you add pockets and put heavier things in it, then it would stretch). As for stretch during washing / drying: tumbling it perferably in a dry towel that will absorb the moisture, and if the material is delicate the short and low spin tumble will not harm it, but the garment still will come out fairly dry. And then drying it laying on a rack, not hanging down, that again could mess with the form. Even if it is not dripping wet. Even having it on a cloths hanger (in the cabinet for storage) could over time change the form and stretch it. Especially if it is loosely worked and the material is heavy. It would not use a stretchy kind of loose pattern for a bag, it will stretch too much and lose the form. Crochet is generally good for bags (better than knit that is normally more stretchy / drapy than crochet). There are crochet patterns that produce the needed stiffness and non-stretchy body.
