@4:01 this is the biggest feature of Bluetoothe LE Audio. The way Bluetoothe wireless earbuds currently work is to stream the stereo audio signal to the right earbud and that bud takes care of splitting and broadcasting the left channel to the left bud. @GH0STST4RSCR34M I was in a hurry while writing, so let me explain my situation. I have a decent headphones connected to a dac/amp with good EQ running on my PC. So I would prefer their sound over anything else. And I line-in my phone when playing games, so I can listen to the game and the phone simultaneously by connecting the phone as a line-in source. You can argue that this be done on the background while playing or by using another monitor. But I I don't have space for another monitor and I prefer to have my separate controls. Beucase some games I play, adjust the resolution of the screen whenever I shift to another window for some reason, and it takes time when I just want to pause a video lets say. Regarding using the phone on speakers, when I play a game I wouldn't be able to hear the phone, so this is not an option to my situation. If I was using an open-back headphone this could be an option but I would sacrifice sound fidelity this way.

The one thing I'm eagerly awaiting with bated breath with Bluetooth is better OS side pairing. Why is it it can't remember devices after they've been unpaired? It's not like they use each individual MAC address, as I can interchangeably reconnect two devices of the same model. And I'm talking Android and PC, and any device type (not just audio) at this point. This just sounds like a problem very solvable with software on the source device (PC, phone). Why can't it just remember even the name that's listed for the user? I have tons of BT devices and no one is identical (outside of exact same model ofc). I guess some things like controllers, like the PS5 and Switch Pro, both show up as Wireless Controller on Windows, but that's just Windows not having specific drivers for each I think.

Welcoming the improvements for sure, but lossy audio does not need to be enforced in absolutely all circumstances. I was really hoping to hear there was also a toggeable lossless option :( This would be great for instance to transmit audio from a desktop computer (or wall-plugged laptop) to a home audio receiver or powered bluetooth speakers. In these use cases no need for lowest power consumption, yet ultimate lossless quality absolutely desirable

Not to diminish the upcoming technology, but how does it compare to aptX in audio quaility and power consumption? 'Cause I am quite happy with aptX codec. Anyone?

I always wondered why not use a stronger signal at a higher bandwidth. Then I realized that would drain the headphone battery faster. Still if blue tooth is getting better with more bandwidth. Are we just treading the same path as other signal technologies? For a long time I would only use wired headphones for best signals or large dedicated speakers. Wouldn't wifi or a dedicated wireless network do the job better?

Are there any hardware requirements? I mean, can I expect that my old, custom-ROM Android phone will support it as soon as I upgrade to Android 13? I can't find any info on hardware compatibility.
@FrostArchon
@FrostArchon Рік тому
Your phone needs to support Bluetooth 5.2, your android os must be 13 or higher, and your headphones/buds must specifically support Bluetooth LE audio. The ones that come to mind right now are the sony linkbuds S, And the Samsung galaxy buds 2 pro. Both of them will support LE audio with a future firmware update.

Those videos of LTT you pop in should have a link either in the description or in the little info thing in the corner I can pop out. It's too much effort to go back to read the name of the video and search it up in a new tab and hopefully find it. Just link it directly and I'll be more inclined to check it out.

I do hope they let you choose a higher bitrate, like how you can switch between codecs on Android. I don't want to be forced to use a lower bitrate codec if my headphones have a better codec they can use. I also wish there was a way for a software update to add these features, but I'm guessing BLE audio is gonna be hardware specific.
@martineyles
@martineyles 9 місяців тому
Even Sony's high bandwidth (900kbps) codec has to support dynamically switching to lower bandwidths (600 and 300kbps) to avoid cutting out when there's inference (and even then, Bluetooth can cut out completely at times). Bluetooth offers convenience, but there will always be tradeoffs when you're sharing the 2.4 GHz radio spectrum with everything else. That's where it's useful to have the option of a wire (which thankfully Sony also still supports).
@martineyles
@martineyles 9 місяців тому
As for software updates, they're needed on both ends - Phone and Headphones, so you'd best hope both get an update, or it doesn't help. My headphones don't seem to support this latest codec, so I'll have to stick with LDAC or SBC (or the wire) for now.

So will I need a new phone and bluetooth headphones to take advantage of this or will this work on older devices as well? Is it as simple as a software update or will this mean nothing until a few years down the line when everything will finally support this?

This will most likely mean buying new devices that support this technology. So the phone and the Bluetooth headphones will need to have Bluetooth LE Audio to take advantage of this.

it's part of a new revision I think (I might be wrong). So rest assured that you'd probably need to upgrade to a new phone (unless it's a recent one with a flagship-ish SoC) & buy a new pair of cans/iems as well! I personally couldn't care less as I have a 3.5 mm HP jack in my phone!

What about cheap headphones that don't advertise expensive proprietary codecs but work with them if manually forced anyway? I kinda been aiming for that for over a decade in my buying decisions. $23 with an unadvertised codec and AutoEQ... and daamn them are some nice wireless cans. Speaking of which is LABS GONNA CONTRIBUTE TO AUTOEQ that'd be nice.
