What a completely stupid test...! Why eliminate the cars like that...? This show is stuffed...

Why eliminate the other cars though and just test them all? the radical is literally a pure bread track car so would have cleaned up on track surely?

So after eliminating two track day cars based on stupid “tests”, you test the remaining two cars as track day cars 🙄

Zenos wins in comfort, Radical wins in laptimes, Caterham wins in fun and the Ariel wins in this test.

the first test is basically how fast it goes into reverse.

It should have been the Radikal v Atom for the laps. Radikal is all about grip in corners.. the one they tested was the least powerful one they make. They should have used the SR3 one or whatever it’s called to balance out the power vs the others

That was absurd. The Radical is a pure track car and has aero so it should be quicker in the corners. As others have said - no elimination.

Why would you eliminate the Radical (the car we want to see actually on the track) BEFORE you do the track test? And seriously the cone test part is the part everyone is skipping passed, that is so irrelevant! I didn't bother watching this video to the end as the most relevant test was saved to the end with the 2 least interesting cars...

I've been in love with the atom since I first saw it. I've said for years now that it's the one car that could get me to walk away from sport bikes.

I'd be happy to have either in my garage. My head would buy the Atom, but my heart would have the 620 (in the S spec instead). Both awesome machines..........

You should of picked the Radical SR3 , at least . But the aero on the Radical makes it slower in the straight line. It would of beaten the rest in the track time

The only time I use reverse on my Atom is to get it out of the trailer. Seriously LAME test, overall. 0 to 60 is pretty useless as well as I'm only in 1st on an outlap. Too bad they didn't test them ALL out on the track. THATS where it all matters..

You really should have had all the cars compete in all the events. What a shame to not see them fully in action!

Bigger question and better test is: IF you ran the same test for each car and rated from 1 - 4, which would win overall? Which car would win the complete lap race test for instance, Radical?

You could offer Fifth Gear the chance to test the Mercedes F1 car and they'd be like: "Imma get my cones out"

Are there similar manufacturers in the US? I’ve been working on an older Miata as a track/fun project. Any of the four in this review would better option.

Radical was screwed ever since you passed up the SR3.

For me the First and second tests are so stupid the fist so and so but the second... you should race in the two that lost head to head it’ll be whay more interesting

It totally missed the vuhl 05rr, would be nice for you guys to have on a competition.

I've driven a bunch of Caterhams - and I think so have you folks surely - and that one looked uncomfortable and twitchy. I wonder if it was set up for something silly like doing donuts or drifting, and then they forgot to reset it to normal road/track use before they lent it to you? I suspect the Atom would still have won because of the mid/rear bias, but it should have been a closer race. Shame you couldn't get the Radical SR3 (rather than the SR1) for a closer contest as well. Oh well - you drive what you got.

the Atom is the only one of these I`ve driven, but, trust me on this, it is MENTAL!

Is the caterham a little bit slimmer? That and the long nose, where it seems you can see the wheels even better and be conscious of how much space on the road you got seem like possibly that bit more fun on roads versus an atom. And of course, in all of these vs a lambo that barely fits on a mountain road

It would have been nice to also be able to compare the purchase prices of each of the models present in this test. 😉

Not sure what was under the hood of the Radical but if it had the original concept Hayabusa V8, that being two Suzuki heads on a custom 2.6liter V-block, the Caterham would've finished third..making 400hp normally aspirated and being the lightest powerplant by kilos and kilos. .

Would have love to see the ktm x-bow in the test.

I have an idea: let's test four track cars, give 'm a couple of tests to see who's best and.................save the actual track test to the last??????? If it wasn't for that acceleration test I bet the Radical would have proven to be the fastest on the track, and isn't that what this test should have been about in the first place?

It would be nice to see a Factory Five 818 in that mix.

Not putting the radical on the road course is absolute nonsense. There are plenty of radicals in road racing and they are pretty quick though they cant compete at the top levels in places like SCCA and NASA. One thing for sure is that the Radical would blow the doors off the the Zenos and Caterhm on the road coarse. Its not even a competition. On a tight road course it should be faster than the Atom as well. There is a reason you don't see any Atoms in real road racing but you do see Radicals. This whole test was pretty lame.

Caterham definitely not set up properly. Should not be all over the track like that. Tyre pressures, damper rates, anti sway bar settings?

I realize the Caterham was originally a Lotus, but would have been curious if you included a 3-Eleven.

There should be tons of 50-100hp m versions mass produced as eco but fun cars,with 15-20hp electric support in the front wheels, just 4-10km pure e range. And an optional roof. Proper aero. I really don't see why even small cars weigh more than a ton.

The caterham’s reg plate looks like it says “lego cat”

So, what if the Zenos was quicker in the acceleration test?... or the SR1 OR Zenos better on the track in the race? By eliminating one car after every test, you potentially skew the outcome by the order in which you decide to do the tests. I could design a test where a Land Rover would be the best "track car" over a Lamborghini, an F1 car, and a Ford F150 if elimination test #1 was an off-road challenge and elimination test #2 was a grocery run!

Nice one, though I'd rather see all cars doing all the challenges. Who knows if the zenos would win all the other... Now we never will know do we...

Only driven the Atom and the Caterham. Like both off them, but I prefer the Caterham just because it feels so basic and primitive. Driving fast is always fun, but driving fast in a car that wants you to screw up and possibly kill you makes it truly exiting.

In the first “test” the driver gained more experience with the course with each pass, thus the first two cars were at a disadvantage.

yea, lets remove the radical in a test where we claim to allude that decent lap times are associated with 400 meter trap speed, i would consider watching more 5th gear if you just said, it wouldnt have been fair so we sent the ringer home.

It's pretty silly to have the most relevant test as the last one when you eliminate the cars like that... I really wanted to see the Atom vs the SR1.

wish the cars hadn't been knocked out. They might perform differently in different tests AND inclusion might compensate for, for example, the driver getting better at a test (e.g. the first one - which is handling / manoeuvring).

All cars should do all the tests,easy be to get the answer you want when you cheat.

Not sure about the 'eliminating' thing but entertaining all the same. These cars are about fun and nothing else. If you have 50K to spend on a toy it has to be the Caterham. The Ariel looked just too easy. I also believe no matter if you're ex f1 or whatever. You have to have the Caterham for a good while to get to know it and get the most out of it especially the 620R which due to its power breaks tractions pretty easily. I think the 420R may have fared better in this test. my pick is the Ariel Atom, until the Ariel HyperCar comes out!

They say the caterham has less front end grip because of the lack of weight in the nose. But when they tested the 911 and the 570 they said weight on the front end will tend to understeer. Genuinely confused at what weight actually does

I'd take the Caterham any day. Get a front splitter, use a little ballast and better tires. I dont know how good of a brand Avon is, but I'd rather have the Hankook's from the Radical SR1 or even the Toyo's from the Atom.

the radical would've been a better match on the track (and. you did kinda choose by far the LEAST powerful radical).

A certain, slightly more popular trio of Brits would have the sense to run all 4 of them through every test.

Very rarely see 5th gear on tv these days which is annoying tbh. It's the only proper car program these days where they properly test out cars with proper drivers.
