I finally got a new Miter saw, The Bosch CM10GD 10” Dual-Bevel Glide Saw. It’s a great saw right out of the box, but just to customize it a bit I’m adding a Zero Clearance Insert.

Have had this for 4 + years. I do high end finish carpentry and with the Freud LU91R012 12-Inch 72 Tooth ATB Thin Kerf Sliding Miter Saw Blade it works great ukposts.infoUgkxPeGkHOMe05FySypTOvYumxMn-xi39oRe . I've had many fellow carpenters make positive comments after borrowing it. Pluses; Sturdy fence, great capacity, low deflection, work lights (Not a gimmick), great dust collection, still as smooth as when i first got it, easy tilt. Minuses ; my digital readout is not accurate(don't use it anyway), heavy.

An OEM insert usually allows for zero clearance; the sloted screw holes in the insert allow you to move the insert inward to where they almost touch, then with a plunge of the blade you have a zero clearance cut. To do a bevel cut, loosen the screw, open the throat, make the bevel cut and then close up the insert again to go back to zero clearance. Thanks for your time

I love my Bosch 4310 dual bevel, it's a slider one, but works great. I was thinking about a zero clearance for it and this video is all I needed to get going on making one. I hope you like the saw, I had to adjust mine a little to get a perfect 90 degree cut and it works sooo good!!

I’ve recently purchased a new Dewalt Flexvolt sliding mitre saw. Making test cuts, there appears to be no issue with tear out at all. I’ve tested the saw using pine, man made boards and oak. Can I suggest that tear out could be the result of a blunt blade and/or rushing the cut. I can appreciate that using a hardwood insert can really “sex up” the look of the saw but I don’t see any real practical advantage to making one. Of course, the disadvantage arises when you need to tilt the saw for angled cuts. You’d need to remove it every time to avoid damaging the insert. I did make up an auxiliary jig from MDF that can be attached to the fence. Hence, small off cuts can’t snag the blade or be thrown around the workshop. However, I fully accept it’s a case of each to his own.

Despicably Irascible Rapscallion every time I swing the Ryobi blade 45 degrees so it's no longer perpendicular to the horizon, there's enough play in it that my cuts are never square. Huge disappointment. Time to invest in something higher quality.

I'm really liking that new saw man it's real great and it's definitely a lot better than my old Dewalt saw where it's just not in such good condition! I've be looking for a new one for about 2 months now and so far i haven't seen something like that so if you would, please tell where you got it and I'll see if i can go out and find it for myself! I also liked ur video in general it was very helpful for my son because he is just getting into all this stuff and he said he would like it if you would give him a full demonstration on how to find the right tools and know how to take measurements! I'm completely ok with it. I hope you see this and have a great day thank you for much for all your help and demonstrations!

Jon I've had my Bosch CM12SD for about a year. You are very lucky to have your saw arrive square. It took me a great deal of patience trying to get the saw to square. The action of the saw once squared is great. Though I have 2 chief complaints that Bosch needs to work on. 1. Dust collection. When connecting my Dust Deputy to the sawdust port, it only gets about half the amount of sawdust. The catch behind the saw is too small in my opinion to effectively collect sawdust. There is a video out there to make a larger catch. I am going to build an enclosure like what @DIYMontreal did with hers. 2. No laser. I know a Zero Clearance Insert sort of resolves the need for a laser. However; I just feel the 2 combined together would make for more accurate cuts. The pros far outweigh the cons with this saw. Though I do regret getting rid of my Radial Arm Saw. While the Bosch can do this, I found keeping the RAS square a great deal simpler. Plus the vast majority of the cuts I've done so far really only call for a RAS/Chop saw. I built the Miter Saw Station that @FixThisBuildThat made. The modification I made to this is putting the CMS on a cart I can wheel in our out. This allows me to leverage the Miter station for a RAS or even a plainer. Giving me a great deal of surface to work with.

Hi Jon. If you do a follow -up Q&A type video to this, I wondered if you could briefly discuss your chop saw stroke technique? Ive watched you many times score the material pulling the blade towards you and then plunging the blade and pushing away from you back through the material. I have tried your method and never seem to get perfect results on deeper/longer cuts especially. My Metabo saw is the only one i have ever owned and it has the slightest bit of play on the blade/motor head (though I have heard this is standard on most...if not all sliding mitre saws). So through adjustments and trial & error in cutting technique I can now achieve perfectly square cuts.....But this was something that took me some time to achieve. I just wondered if other people might be interested in this issue and you could share your thoughts? Thanks Jon.
@evanstaite1474
@evanstaite1474 8 років тому
I believe he does this for reducing tear out. It is the same stroke that I use. You have to imagine the angle at which the teeth are exiting the wood. The higher the angle of exit the more tear out.

I have the Bosch 4410L sliding mitre/bevel saw and find when cutting off small ends these saws fire the cut off ends like bullets. Once a piece embedded itself into the drywall. To much space with the original fence that allows these small pieces to get caught by the blade effecting them out the back.

i know i am not the owner of the video but i bought this saw second hand from a guy who was downsizing his shop. the guy i got it from sold his festool to buy this bosch in 10 inch. he said the festool was great but he would buy this saw over and over again for how accurate the positive stops were. when i tested out all the stops to my digital angle finder everything was spot on. im sure the guy i bought it from dialed in everything before hand. i have had 0 issues myself with any of the angles and them not being spot on for the positive stops. i have used a festool before and i even have to say i probably wouldnt go away from using this over a festool. saved me a bunch of money to help my adventure of getting a new table saw

If I ever find a Bosch that sets up accurately I'll definitely be making a cpl of these. Ive set up/ adjusted etc..2 of these saws now and both have the same end result. One side of the blade the square sits 90 and the other side is off by almost a 1/16th (it tapers) I've adjusted all the detents and etc..but still no luck and the 45 degree miter is even worse! Very disappointed for the amnt of money this saw is and time I've waisted.any suggestions on why that is and I got a good Freud blade on it too. Maybe I should try the dewalt? But that space saver is crucial for me which is why I gave it a 2nd chance.

I’m not that happy with this saw either it’s developed a bit of a blade deflection so now I generally use it for cutting boards to a rough length and then use my crosscut sled.. works ok for boards 4” or less
@tooljunkie555
@tooljunkie555 5 років тому
@@JonPetersArtHome yea I also noticed that if I cut a 1x6 i have the same problem with deflection. I still have time to return it I think that's what I'm going to do. Sad to say. Cuz what's the point of having it if it doesnt cut accurate 45s,90s, and deflects over 4" I like the space saving but not for 650$ plus 60 for the blade. I'm thinking dewalt 10" or the Hitachi wish I could afford the festool maybe one of these yrs.lol thanks for the feedback Jon look fwd to seeing ur stuff in the maker mob👍👍🍻
