I bought a Zion 3P for me, my wife, and our 2 dogs. Roomy inside, love the separate net/fly system so we can share the load when backpacking. Super easy setup, love the 2-entry with vestibles setup... when it rains it makes a big difference. We've had it for 4 years, used more than 100 times/250 nights... nothing has ever failed. Reliable, sturdy, lightweight, and inexpensive. Best bang-for-the-buck in the industry.

Thank you for the video! I've narrowed it down to this tent and the Exped Mira 2. Very torn at the moment since both seem very similar.

Would like to purchase the Zion 1p but don’t know that much about the water resistance rating. Is the 3000mm high enough? Would like to use it on the JMT and don’t want to put myself at risk. Thanks for any insight. Love the channel.

@surfandstreamfisher5749

I just got a set of trekking from Paria, the quality is good. So I'm going to order a sleeping pad from them in the near future because of the quality of the poles. One thing that concerns me on this tent is the height of the bath tub floor. One knock on the Bryce was splash back in heavy rain. Commenters seem to feel that 4" more of height would have solved the problem. Time will tell if the same problem exist with the Zion.
@BackcountryExposure
@BackcountryExposure 6 років тому
Interesting, I haven't had any issues on my Bryce with splash back. I haven't been able to get the Zion out in a true weather test yet with the weather and it being winter, but will be sure to pay attention to that detail.

Maybe put some ducttape on the end to the ridgepole to blunt it so it is in less danger of pushing through the rainfly?

@MrTmax74

Sounded like you were trying to be positive about a tent that didn’t meet your standards. They need to figure out the pole concern at the top, and make the vestival larger. As of now, it’s not really a two person tent, which makes it a heavy one person tent. In my opinion, getting a tent from a major manufacturer when it’s on sale would be the way to go. The Kelty tn2 is a good example. You can currently get it for $180 and it’s undoubtedly going to be built better, and tougher.

Have you use this tent a lot? I am curious to know if the top pole rub through the flysheet
@BackcountryExposure
@BackcountryExposure 3 місяці тому
I've used it a decent amount, and that hasn't been an issue. With Paria as well, you're getting a lifetime warranty against defects, so I'd bet that if it truly did present as a problem, Paria would make it right.

@@BackcountryExposure Alright thanks, I was looking to buy the similar tent from Featherstone, but was hesitant because of the same issue
@hogey74
@hogey74 6 років тому
There are a heap now with this basic design. I like them in general but the small size of the vestibules on this one rules me out. I'd much rather carry a little more weight in order to have room to keep stuff out there while also easily getting in an out. They made their choice and the tent seems good but for a through-hike type tent, room to cook and keep stuff in the vestibules seems more important. The lack of unnecessary tapering at one end is a plus - that seems silly to me to do that for what must be minor weight savings.
@BackcountryExposure
@BackcountryExposure 6 років тому
This tent isn't marketed as a thru hike tent. It's meant to be a simple, effective, fairly lightweight tent for two for backpacking. The vestibules are big enough, but could always be bigger. That's coming from someone that doesn't even really like vestibules to begin with.

If you take a peice of another material like from a cloth draw string bag, you could place it between the side poles and the tent to reduce wear in those two areas.
