I know this is a comment on a video from a year ago, but I was wondering whether you think somebody who had no woodworking skills or knowledge would be able to make it easily enough? I am wanting to set up a workshop, and these would be a perfect addition for a workspace. Love the thought that has gone into these, they are amazing!

Jer you are a freakin genius. No really. I cannot tell you how many videos, how many scenarios, how many rough drawings I've done for my shop layout. Every time I think I have what I want, I am just not feeling it. Not only am I not feeling it, I see another video with something that does things slightly different. So I shift. This is not just a shift, this is a full on landing. I've finally found my shop furniture. Not only could I use these cubes on the ground, but I would argue I could use them instead of upper cabinets in some cases. Consider my mind blown. Now I just need to determine how I am going to build out a top that is not permanently affixed to the cubes. At 6' 3" 32.5" tall is a little low for myself. Off the top of my head I am thinking a torsion style top to give myself the height you are achieving with 4 boards. I'll achieve the height with far less wood and a sound structure. Then it becomes a matter of how to attach the top to the cubes. Well done sir. I raise a glass to you.

Is the machine in the video 400 or 490 long base frame? I bought the plans and im trying to figure out what size suits me. Ideally i ke the size in the video.

For a different impeller try a VW type 1 air cooled engine fan. Companies that make these cyclones have a program to calculate the different parts and they also know, from experience, the dimensions needed to remove wood dust without anything coming out of the top. Talk to someone that does this for a living. I think you did a good job for a first try. Look in a catalog from a company that makes these cyclones for dust removal and then talk to the engineers that spec these for each application.

Another problem with welded tubing is that the inside flats are never exactly 90 degrees to each other, and the inner curved corners all have slightly different radii.

Your description was very clear. With the spring steel wire, without heat treatment, sometimes tight bending can fracture the said wire. In the case of yours, clearly it was ‘outside’ those limits. Thanks for the good video.

what welder do you recommend I have seen the DEKOPRO welder get some good reviews but for something like this and other bodywork for a car would you recommend. Its not like Im doing the ceiling of the car or floor or structure... more like I want to cover some small screw holes and one is the SeatBelt screw broke. so I was planning on welding a Nut to the original hole and then putting a screw in so put the seatbelt back on.

I would love to have this system and especially for a router insert for my work bench. When you build your outfeed table saw table I'd love to see you incorporate an insert panel that can fit a router drawer, grinder drawer or vice drawer etc into the space. Such a great design Jer!

Great video and since I was in the process of building out a new shop, I decided to purchase the plans rather than spend considerable time devising my own. Obviously a great deal of thought and effort went into designing these and after building about of dozen of them, I have a few suggestions/critiques. First, I seriously tried converting to metric several years ago and agree that it's superior for woodworking in general, especially smaller parts. I truly wish we would have converted in the US when I was a child in the 70's. However, it's impractical, especially if you have a shop full of imperial tools and products. It was incredibly frustrating to have to convert all of the important dimensions before getting to work...some of them not particularly friendly to imperial measure. Consider adding the imperial dimensions in addition to the metric. Second, I understand your logic in making everything oversized and flush routing to final dimension, but I found it an incredible waste of time and frustrating for shop furniture when cutting with a CNC that cuts to very precise measure. After building the first as designed, I wound up reworking all the drawings to cut to finish size. The drawers were especially frustrating to redraw to remove the excess 2mm on the front. It's not difficult to align them flush, why add the extra time, effort, and huge mess of flush routing them? The "final size" ones came out just as well and were TONS easier/faster than the flush routed ones...at least to me and I would think others who build shop furniture. Finally, the washers I had barely fit the counterbores and many needed to be pressed forcefully in place. Reworking the drawing to .75" diameter in the later builds made for a much better fit. I'm still very happy I purchased the plans, they were well worth the $$ and saved me far more than that in time and effort - especially when I had (and still have) no clue exactly what my final setup will be. The flexibility is a HUGE benefit. SO thank you. Just consider some of these criticisms if you ever upgrade the plans. Would have saved a lot of time and frustration. I look forward to more of your shop projects!

IMHO: PERHAPS, INSTEAD OF MIG WELDING, YOU MIGHT HAVE BETTER RESULTS, USING TIG WELDING, AND, ALSO, MANY OR THOSE WELDS, COULD'VE BEEN DONE BETTER, BY BRAZING, INSTEAD...(?)...

IMHO: TRY USING A COUPLE OF PAPER STRIPS, AS ADDITIONAL GAP-TOLERANCE "SPACERS", WHILE SETTING UP THE BAR SEGMENTS, AROUND THE 1-1/2" SQ. MANDREL BAR. (INSTEAD OF THE MIG WIRES)

4.5-7hrs to make two cabinets (I usually make them in pairs) and 4.5-10.5hrs to make eight drawers (enough to fill the two cabinets). If you want a more in-depth answer, see my FAQ page: jerswoodshop.com/cabinet-system-faq/

I’m just accumulating some of the bits and pieces for one of these, and will be buying the plans shortly, it really looks like one of the best thought out and well designed units I’ve seen. One extra I’d be interested in is a surface grinder attachment, do you have any plans for designing one of those to go with this machine? Another feature that wouldn’t be too hard to incorporate is some sort of adjustable fence for the tables, to enable precise angle setting in the horizontal axis. If you had one on the tilting table it’d allow for grinding pretty accurate compound angles too.

Last time I communicated with Jer, he was indeed working on developing a surface grinder attachment. We'll just have to be patient until he considers it ready for prime time.
@Jer_Schmidt

I am working on a surface grinder attachment (that also has a lot more uses than surface grinding). After about six prototypes I believe my current design is good enough, so it's just a matter of building another one for the video and writing the plans. That said, I work slow and burn out often, so it might still be a while.
