That tent will make you very cold in high elevations. A vestibule always trap's heat in a good four season tent. If you have any big netting then it's a three season tent. I've been in extremely extremely cold places where your breath instantly frosts on any hair on your face. And one walled tent is not recommended at all. A closed walled tent and a vestibule will always be warmer than the outside temp's. You have to also have a really good cold temperature sleeping bag for any single walled tent and the air inside would be about the same temp outside. There's several same type of tents with that material and comes with a vestibule so the inside of the tent will be a lot warmer than that tent or anything one walled out there. That material isn't very strong and very fragile to punctures and abrasions. I've gone through three of those types of tents with that same material. I will never buy anything like that again. I would rather have something that may be a bit heavier and would last for any long distant trails than to have any failures on the long journey. A couple more pounds won't be any issue and much more comfortable freestanding than a tent that has to use poles and stakes. I've seen so many times people with those tents that you use a hiking stick for the tent and can't get stakes in the ground so they just covering themselves with it not set up in so many places. Best to have one that's free standing and you don't have to worry about any stakes or anything else that may trip on your rope's and such. Wind will pull up your stakes as well as heavy rain, sleet, or snow. Plus the guide ropes can be pulled out by your dog or wild animals that frequently come over to find food. Never ever sleep in the clothes that you cooked in and keep everything up and away from where you are sleeping at. I hope this helps anyone out, and you may find along the trail crystals and minerals to take home as a souvenir as a great memory of your awesome trip backpacking.

I guess my first biggest fear was bullet proof boars (not bears, we don't have bears over here). Especially during sping we had to look out for wild boars with piglets - they will attack and their tusks are fierce weapons. Next thing after this was forgetting anything or having not enough (clothing, food, tools, ...) so I was packing weeks in advance and always had way too much stuff with me. After many years I became more relaxed but I still take a lot of time packing, or at least making lists in my head with all the stuff I want to take. Selecting gear and buying new gear when prepping is kind of part of the whole experience for me.

The problem is, no one seems to have Topo Pursuits for men. Even the Topo website only lists women's versions.

I usually don't use straps on my hiking poles as well. If you fall while gripping the pole you have a good chance of injuring your wrist. Best to let go of the poles if you are falling.

You ultralight people make me laugh. You would rather grub around in the dirt with a stick than carry a few ounces. I went to Walmart and bought a plastic shovel for $1 and it weighs less than 3oz.

Put the jacket into its stuff sack, submerge under the water, and massage it a bit to press air out. Then pull it out of the sack while still holding it under the water. That will maximize the soaking, minimizing the air inside the baffles.

Both look like great tents for one, and maybe a pup. I'm still liking the Altaplex that your review from several years ago sold me on for a one person, one pole tent.

Good breakdown man!! Asymetrical tents are a cool idea but.. Although the durston is supposed to have a quick pitch free standing option without the need for guy lines but all 4 corners must be staked out. As for the need for dual vestibules in a one man tent. I find use for them on trips where i need alot of gear. Also by having two doors if by chance you encountered a bear or needed to escape for whatever reason having a back door is a nice feature imo in a one man or twon man tent. My old copper spur hv ul one man only had one door and that was kind of a bummer. Now rainbow shaped doors are nice for views ive never been a fan of doors that unzip and collapse to the ground. You can step on the mesh that way. I kinda like a D shaped door myself. But we all have preferences. Both these tents are nice but just not for me. Im still searching for the ultimate DCF freestanding dome tent! Tarp tent rainbow Li being the best i have found with the lotus djedi being a close second. Hike on!!

Hmm... Coffee ... Don't get me talking about coffee. Brewing coffee is an art on its own. I have the Aeropress, a (Bialetti) moka pot, an Espro travel press, a regular french press and a pour over filter (and more but those are not within the scope of outdoor coffee making). All (except for the moka pot) can be used with a paper filter. That is optional but I do recommend this especially for the morning cup of coffee since the paper will absorb most of the oily substances from the coffee, reducing the bitter taste. For years, the Espro travel press has been my go to solution for my morning coffee. It's a kind of a French press with a double filter and it's used in about the same way: put coffee grounds in there, pour on hot water, stir and then place the filter on top. Let it brew for ~2 minutes and then gently push the filter down. Due to the construction of the double filter and the thermos you can keep it hot it this way for hours. What I really like is that you can just keep it like this and clean it later. Using a paper filter in the ultralight java drip could be a good solution to get rid of the wet diaper. If you can, try to get hold of some Kenia peaberry coffee beans. These are very fruity beans that don't taste like coffee at all. You can use the all by themselves but I found that mixing just a few beans in with a single measure of Arabica beans is enough to get a very special coffee.
