The background checks are solid. There is zero reasoning to make somebody wait 7 days to purchase a handgun. The absolute Only thing that needs to change on the background checks is the mental health reporting aspect of it. As it is somebody with extreme mental health issues can simply check a box saying that they have never suffered from mental health issues. Only if they have been arrested and police put in the arrest they were suffering from a mental illness would it show up. But even then it may not if they weren't convicted of charges associated with mental illness actions. THAT is the bigger problem. Not making someone wait 7 days to buy a handgun. It takes 5 minutes to be able to run your background check information. But mental health records are sealed per a law back in the 90's. If someone, say a single mother alone with young kids, has been having someone trying to break into her home recently. She has to wait 7 terrifying days to be able to buy a handgun to protect herself and family? Unconstitutional and unlawful. This is a state not following the Constitution of the United States and not doing their job of protecting their citizens.
