William III is not only the Dutch prince, he is also the son of Mary, princess royal. He is the grandson of Charles I. Charles II and James II are his uncles. He also has claim to the throne of England for himself, right behind Mary II and Anne. That's why he still can be king after his wife Mary II died. His uncle Charles II did not have any legitimate child, and his wife Mary is 12 years younger than him. For a long time William III is the only legitimate grandchild of Charles I.

Be careful, that Batavian Republic flag is actually the naval flag. The Batavian Republic actually used something similar to modern Luxembourg, with a lighter blue, and no emblem in the corner

The Fascists ruined the Prinsenvlag. Like Fascists always do. Honestly in order to make our flag distinctive from Luxembourg we should change it back to Orange white and blue

It's interesting how many of the words are used regularly in Scotland as well. I don't think a Scottish accent, not even the ones right down near the south-east border, sounds Geordie, but the vocabulary can be very similar indeed. Also quite interesting that two of the words used for an unruly individual (gadgie and chav) seem to have Romani roots, but the original meaning was quite different - I suspect some racism at play in their proliferation in their modern meanings.

Yeah no, they shouldn't exist. Instead, a more professional way of portraying foreign languages in a list would be including their denomination in the language itself. Like Français, Español/Castellano, Deutsch, English, Català, Galego, West-Frysk, and so on. It doesn't have as much political connotations as a flag would have and it's understandable for each language's speakers. A flag representing the Portuguese language with colonial imagery wouldn't be inclusive to speakers who don't feel any connection to Portuguese imperialism (same with the Afrikaans language being depicted with the Apartheid flag), and an "unified Korean flag" wouldn't do the job because it's controversial.

Another fact that even in old paintings both can be seen on ships. The reason for this was that orange was a mixture of red and yellow. After a year of voyage over the seas caused the yellow to have faded away turning the orange into red.

Basically the NSB did to the flag what the Nazis did to the Swaztika, the latter being a symbol of good fortune & blessings in Asia. Of course, the Swaztika in Buddhism has a different orientation to the Nazi version, but w/o context, you'll defo realise eyebrows. There are a lot of gifts in Asia adroned with Swaztikas, just don't bring it back as a souvenir.

I'm not from the Netherlands but my reason for preferring the orange striped flag is that the color red is used by every damn flag in the world while orange is very rare and it would be a lot more original than just having a French flag displayed sideways

As a Brazilian I would seriously object to having a language flag that uses symbols related to Portuguese colonialism, like the tower of Belém or the Quinas Shield. I'd much rather have a flag that doesn't exhibit any national symbols at all. If it is to be inclusive, it must exclude colonial symbols. Period.

There was controversy when South Africa adopted a new flag in 1928 based upon the “oranje blanje bleu”. After Britain conquered all of South Africa in the Boer War the British imposed the Union Jack on South Africa. Afrikaners were unhappy with this. Moderate Afrikaner nationalists (led by Barry Hertzog) succeeded in getting the British Union Jack and “God Save the King” replaced by the “oranje blanje bleu” flag and by “Die Stem”. Two groups of people were unhappy with this. Anglo-South Africans preferred the Union Jack. Radical Afrikaner nationalists (led by D.F. Malan) were unhappy with the 1928 flag because it still incorporated the Union Jack in its design. These radical nationalists became the government in 1948 (and created apartheid) but even though they were unhappy with this ”compromise” Hertzog flag they never changed it

I would highly encourage you to take the time to speak with native Americans. Information from books is highly unreliable. For instance, I am from the seminole tribe and we protected runaway slaves who fled into Florida. However, books will tell you they ended up as our slaves. In reality, we helped them learn to live off the land. They showed their gratitude by offering us part of their crop. My people believe it is extremely rude to refuse a gift, so we accepted. That was the first seminole war. In the second, books will tell you that my people were raiding American homesteads. However, modern historians, both white and native will point out that the raids were conducted with muskets. By this time, my people had traded with the Spanish for rifles. Please don't take this as criticism. You seem an honest man. I like to see honest men search for knowledge.

Regarding general association with the use of Anglo-Saxon. The way the term is generally understood is that it's "someone from England", or more accurate, with true English heritage. Most people outside of England don't understand that Anglo-Saxons aren't indigenous to England. They don't know that the Normans conquered, or if they do, they think that the Anglo-Saxons are the true English/natives to England. They use the term to express pride in their perceived genetic heritage and specifically to ensure people know they don't think they're of Irish/Scottish or some other non pure English heritage. However ridiculous this notion is, this is what people think outside of England when people hear it.

The Scandinavian influences on the Geordie dialect are unmistakable for sure. From the words we use, to my very own surname (Also my user) which means "Tyne Dweller". They ruled over the North East for close to 200 years. We had their laws, agreed to worship their deities and exchanged every day life with them, Something was destined to stick around if not just their DNA. The dialect had already survived a thousand years before the term of origin came to light in the 1800's. The Geordie dialect is the OLDEST English dialect and largely unaffected by Latin or French influences.
