Kijk, dat kan ik nou waarderen als je op die manier creatief bent met taal. Wij Nederlanders spreken steeds vaker meerdere talen tegelijk door voor het grootste deel Engelse of enkel vernederlandste Engelse woorden in onze zinnen te proppen. Mountainbike noemen wij het. Sorry, maar ook terwijl ik het zelf zo zou noemen, omdat het blijkbaar zo hoort, vind ik het maar een lamlendige manier om onze taal te ontwikkelen (zoals met wanstaltige woorden als 'liken' of 'checken', waarvoor we al veel langer veel nederlandsere woorden hadden). En dan komt het Afrikaans met 'bergfiets'. BRILJANT! Als dat niet door kan gaan voor 'puurder' Nederlands, dan weet ik het niet meer. Het kan gewoon en dan ook nog volgens onze eigen spellings- en uitspraakprincipes.

Als Nederlander heb ik ~10 jaar in Vlaanderen gewoond eerst in Westmalle en daarna in Borgerhout (Antwerpen). Mooie oude steden; prima bier zoals mijn favoriet WestMalle-Dubbel; goede restaurants. Belgisch bier is gemaakt om zelf te drinken, Nederlands bier is gemaakt om te verkopen :)

As a learner of Dutch 🇳🇱 and native English speaker, I noticed the parts of Dutch that are similar to English and German. I went to the Netherlands in late 2022. Many of the Dutch people in cafes and restaurants would talk to me in Dutch. I’m just about learning to read and the grammar but not ready for conversations. 7:30

Interessant dat Neaderlanders en Flemise mense ook sukel om mekaar te verstaan. Dit is baie (erg) makliker vir Afrikanse mense om Flemise te verstaan as Neaderlands. As ek Neaderlands hoer dan moet ek begin om mie Duitse intemengel om woerde - veral S worde te kan verstaan. Neaderlanders is sou lief vir die Z klank. Ook as ek met mieself en anders worde uit die voer kant van my mond herhaal of praat (anders as die agter kant van my mond) dan kan ons vir mekaar 'n bitjie beter verstaan. Ek het omtrend 90% van alles in die video geverstaan. Flemise mense praat ook dieper en sagter van uit die agter kant van hulle mont - daar voer dink ek hulle is nogtans baie (erg) makliker vir Afrikaans sprekers te kan verstaan. Maar ons het baie (erg) ander worde van Bahasa (Indonesia), Malies, Portugees, Khoi, en miskien ook Frankruiks van die Hugenot mense wat ons gebruik in ons taal. Daar voor as ek met Neaderlanders of Flemise mense praat kan ek redelik verstaan so lank ek goet luister en 'n bitjie dink (worde uit die voer kant van my mond herhaal en Z klanke gebruik ... en aan die Duitse word dink as ek wel waas trap) maar ek dink hulle sukkel nogtaans baie (vreeslik erg 😆Malies) om vir mie te kan verstaand - en bly net stil en glimlag. Jammer ek is half engels en praat min Afrikaans dies dae omdat ek ver a lang tuid in London bly.

Baie dankie, ek waardeer die moeite wat u met Afrikaans doen. En ja, ek het hier aangesluit omdat ek graag Nederlands vlot wil leer praat en skryf. Hierdie is seker 'n goeie plek om te begin? Ek vind Nederlands baie maklik om te lees, want die woorde is dieselfde, dit is net die spelling wat verskil: Myne is mijne, trou is trouw, loop is lopen. ensovoorts.

Well I will tell my story here in English because I the moment don't know dutch but have in plan to learn it. Two years ago been in Romania, I used to live in my birth place a small and isolated village. Back then I used to work as tourist guid unqualified, I have just my highschool diploma for now. My job was enjoyable but not my salary or life in village in spite I spent my entire life there. Had an personal issue, experienced depression, whom well let's say at the moment start somehow to get better. In that period as single 27 young man took a decision, to leave literally everything in my back and come here. That was not a life changing moment, but a life changing decision for me. I started with typical work agency, first time lived in Gedeerland but started to work in Brabant were I work and live also now at same company with perm contract. When I left I had just 300€ , best thing about this country are two things: English is overused, I know some Dutch people dislike that and at some stand I understand your frustration, but in other side when you're new here good to know you can get along, especially that dutch is not an easy language, second good thing when you start a new life here is weekly salary, this makes way easier transition. In one year I somehow managed to find a rent in city I work, a shared flat. And starting with this getting the contract I started to bike to home-work, back in Romania I never through I would be ever capable to face the traffic. But step by step I kind gained some confidence and started driving school, and hope to get driving license at some point. Well ignoring language barrier I got acclimatised with the country in last near two years spent here. Until few day ago I started at some point: "He would be grate if I would not need to go abroad, to solve (really expensive here) some dental issues." At the moment didn't realised but I through about own birth country as abroad rather than home. That was a strange moment. Only insecurity I have for now would be that in this moment I would afford my own space, and even if through a miracle I would, housing issue is so fucked up that is tiring. When I first looked for a flat, was really emotionally exhausting, but if I get my driving license and my car maybe I would plan to move. Ideal and very crowded city would be Tilburg. Half of my fam is living in Germany and asked me why don't try to relocated there, but honestly I have kind of familiarity build with this country, sure Germany is way more bigger so more affordable than Netherlands, but I don't really feel comfortable living there. Now through my purposes after to year is to learn dutch and maybe after if I afford to follow and MBO vocational class.

Wel grappig dat Nederlanders het wel belangrijk vinden als handelspartner wat Duits te beheersen, maar andersom Duitsers het niet nodig vinden om Nederlands te leren. Als Nederlander wringen we ons vaak in allerlei bochten om ons verstaanbaar te maken, zelfs in ons eigen land schakelen we gelijk over naar Engels, Duits of Frans als we horen dat iemand geen Nederlands spreekt. Het is bv in België zelfs zo dat het Franstalige deel geen Nederlands en Duits spreekt. Te zot voor woorden in een drietalig land. Maar de Vlamingen (nederlands sprekende mensen in België) spreken wel Duits en Frans. Doordat Nederlanders relatief goed zijn in hun talen, zeker in het Engels, is het voor buitenlanders wel moeilijk om Nederlands te leren omdat we bijna automatisch overschakelen in het Engels als iemand de taal niet spreekt.

Afrikaans is 'n mooier en meer dinamiese taal as Nederlands.

Waarom wil Nederlanders nie Nederlands praat met Afrikaanse mense as hulle Suid-Afrika besoek? As jy Afrikaans met hulle praat, antwoord hulle in Engels!

Somehow I understand Afrikaans better than Dutch. Probably because it is a watered down version of that language, no offense to Afrikaners though.

As a English speaking South African who speaks Afrikaans and Dutch I would like to advise you Dutch to just switch over Afrikaans, the grammar is so well thought out and simplified! Whenever I speak Dutch I get annoyed at the extra thinking I have to do to create sentences.
