Its cheaper and more confident to buy a flexGate A1707 for the same price, usually sellers just do not want to bother with the repair and just sell and upgrade, these "fully functional" guys with no working screen on photos are much riskier.

post office here in uk would never accept a shipment freely moving inside a box of this size. i assume any logical person in usps too. i don't know if either party's evidence counts but judgement on ebay side was quite easy. you did not harass them. it was a lie, simple. an amateur wannabe thief. by the way, probably there was something in between screen and keyboard sandwiched that caused the screen failure.

Bought one of these on eBay 2 days ago. Won it for a steal price of £128 plus £15 next day postage, paid £143 in total. No box or charger but it was iCloud unlocked and overall in very good condition. Bought a replacement battery from Amazon for £66. Replaced the battery myself in it today. Total spend was £209. These still sell second hand in very similar condition for between £275 and £330 on eBay. As much as many of the comments say this is the worst Macbook model of all, and I already own an M3 Pro chip 14 inch Macbook, rather than selling this for perhaps £70-£121 profit before eBay fees, I might just keep it. One thing anyone doing a battery replacement should bear in mind is that the ribbon cable on the battery is a bit fiddly to reconnect, often it will look reconnected but the gold pins are more visible than they should be. When I had this issue the battery icon showed with a X through it and it would only power up when connected to USB C power. I took the cover off again and had to wiggle the ribbon cable left and right for it to fully insert, before clamping the bar down again. When I restarted the Mac again it this time powered straight on off the new battery and works flawlessly! The battery I took out of the mac when I received it was a genuine apple battery, it was several years old and despite only having 242 on the battery cycle count it was only retaining around 25% of it's original capacity, only holding around 1,250mAh.

People truly dont realize how great these old macbooks are, even all the way back to the unibodys. During 2020 I got into the macbook refurbishing business and made a good amount of money refurbishing the old uninbodys. While yes they arent as fast as today, they still can pull their weight in most tasks!

Incidentally I'm in the UK and I just bought one of these exact models, arriving tomorrow, from eBay to repair. I paid £143 including postage and it's in apparently excellent condition overall. The battery is showing "Service recommended" and apparently it randomly powers off on battery and also when connected to USB C but less often. I have bought a replacement battery already which wasn't cheap (£66). Also having restore and fixed multiple macbooks in the past, I'm pretty sure you can get around the password by simply using a Bootable USB Mac installer and erasing the SSD and re-installing a fresh OS. Alternatively if that doesn't work surely you can swap the SSD out for another one, and if it's not the apple type SSD then you can use an adapter which you can buy for about $10 or less.

I got a pretty sweet deal on my 2015 13 inch MacBook pro. it was less than $200, is in almost perfect condition with no dents and minimal scratches, a good battery with 90% of the original capacity, 500 gigs of storage, and the upgraded 2.9GHz i5 processor. the only issue out of the box was that it was missing one of the rubber feet, but all around a great laptop on a tight budget!

Great option, last one with upgradable ssd, still fast in 2024, ok its intel and its loud, but still great option with price, you can run windows easy and butterfly keyboard is not that bad, got mine with new replaced keyboard and new battery for around 250 euros, upgraded ssd to 1tb and its a beast budget daily. And the place i bought it gave me a 2 year warranty.

IMO getting an intel MacBook when m1 can be found around 500€ is not a very sensible choice in the long run no matter how cheap you can find one.

I loved that butterfly keys tbh, had all of them since 2013, every single model. The butterfly keys are the best imho. I did have to replace the keyboard a couple of times, that sucked, but it was awesome. And I am a programmer, or was at the time

That's a great deal but for me, no matter how good that deal is I would try to get the M1 macbook air for a little more cash, M1 vs those intel... it's not just a night and day difference but a complete season difference

I got my MBP mid 2017 with a 256gb SSD and with A fairly new battery for $140 on eBay in a bid war and I have to say these machines work very well for what it is and can still handle every day tasks

Staingate, stagegate (flexgate), keyboardgate, pure type c, slow cpu, all in one place... and it doesnt even have touchbar (which is a pretty cool feature especially if you use it). M1 Macbook Airs go for less than double the price, yet the performance and efficiency almost quadruples. And also comes with 2 problems less (keyboard and cpu performance).

i actually think the m1 macbook air is the best budget macbook. It can do anything you throw at it.

Not compaing manufacturers, I've gotten used to having just 2 USB C ports on my Pixelbook Go, just miss having a MicroSD for convenience. I think Macbook Pro's should automatically one being a "media creation device" without using an external device you carry with you.

A red flag is if the product image is a generic image, such as an iPad image from Google Images or the Apple site, likely it’s a scam. It happened a few years ago and reduced price iPad Pro M1 was a used, bent 2018 model. The seller nagged the buyer several times to unlock the iCloud account. Of course they lied (someone didn’t reset the device and they seller didn’t check to ensure it was factory reset, assuming the buyer turned it on and setup the iCloud-impossible.) Got half a refund and the escalation got the other half. Even if a seller says they’re reputable, usually they are, but in general buying Apple devices on eBay is risky. Cameras, that’s fine. No problems so far.

there is no way a battery can affect the screen my any way shape of form, I would've done the research before hand because those butterfly macs has an issue with the flex cable and there is no way you can replace the flex cable since it's soldered on to the screen its self.
