If I recall correctly, the Sears tower design was inspired by the architects' smoking habit (cigarette boxes)

It actually jars me that everyone seems to agree that its a second class lever. That free body diagram makes zero sense.

Read "Slide Rule" by Neville Shute Norway which describes the damnable arrogant stupidity of the government built R101 compared to the private R100. The analysis is worth of another video from you.

My grandfather was an electrical engineer with Inland Steel. He did the electrics in the sears tower during construction! He was an amazing man & I'm happy to see it still thriving on the skyline!

Exquisite video. Thank you. I do have one question. Your models and animations have steam passing through the turbine so as to hit the convex surface of the turbine blades. I have seen turbine blades in models and drawings all my life, and always assumed the steam hit the concave surface of the blades first. That just seemed intuitive to me. Was that an oversight, or is the perhaps some subtle detail of aerodynamics I'm overlooking.

It doesn’t matter if it’s over 15 floors I’m not going any higher. I have a part-time delivering state products and I’m telling the corresponding reciprocate to come meet me in the lobby because I am not traveling to the skies for their office. I’ll send it up in the freight elevator and you wait for it at the top. Lmao

Like the leaning tower in downtown San Francisco. 29" off plumb at the top! Never could have happened in 1931. Or the falling balconies at the Hyatt New Orleans. Be an engineer but get a brain first.

I’ve worked in the construction industry for almost twenty years, and I can tell you that this method is used all the time. Builders often ignore the drawings/specifications in favor of their tried & true rules of thumb. Of course, they don’t tell any of the Engineers this.

Great video! In summary, evaporation occurs in the head of the bird when it wets its beak. Therefore, the head of the bird becomes colder due to evaporation. Water always flows from high to low pressure. In this case, the tail has the higher pressure since the water begins to slowly work its way up the tube. Temperature and pressure are directly related. If the temperature drops, the pressure will too. As stated before, the water will flow towards where the pressure is lower, causing the weight of the bird's head to increase, dip back into the water, and repeat.

A measuring tape, or ruler, is the scientific method. A story stick is engineering. A cord compass for radius is engineering.
