I'm not going to watch what nonsense he's uttering this time, sufice to say Harari is one of the biggest blithering bullshitters out there. Let me demonstrate this on just one example: In his book "Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind", he asserts that the Nazis were Evolutionary Humanists. This couldn't be further from the truth, and if someone asserts nonsense like that and claims to be a scientist at the same time, he has lost all credibility in my eyes. Let's dissect this assertion real quick. "Humanism", by simple definition, is a worldview that puts the human individual at the center and strives to alleviate suffering and make life better for humans. By calling the Nazis humanists, Harari basically asserts that they were trying to minimise human suffering, which is the exact opposite of what they did in reality. Their contempt for human life and their discrimination of "races" is decidedly anti-humanist, and I don't think that requires any further explanation. Calling the Nazis humanists is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. And that's just besides the point that the concept of Evolutionary Humanism has been created by Julian Huxley in 1964 (Hrm .. When was WW2 again?), meaning he's abusing the term by ignoring its actual definition given by its creator. As for the "evolutionalry" part, he claims that the Nazis based their race theories on the theory of evolution. Wrong again. The moment they invoked their view of the term "race", they departed from the theory of evolution. Evolution concerns itself with species and how they evolve. All humans belong to the same species according to evolution, the average differences between ethnicities are smaller than those between certain individuals of the same ethnicity, which means there can be no talk of race when it comes to humans according to evolution. The Nazi's view was a competition for the survival of the strongest within a species, while evolution is one of the survival of the fittest (=best adapted to the environment) between DIFFERENT species. In other words: Race theory is a purposefully misinterpreted, unscientific perversion of evolution and thus NOT based on the actual theory of evolution. Conclusion: The Nazis were the exact opposite of what Harari claims they were. But since his nonsensical hypothesis fits so well into his arbitrary order of "humanisms", as he calls them, he uses it anyway, screw the scientific method. The only reason he does this is that he insists that Religion is a necessity for people to be good humanists, atheist humanists and all the good they have done seem to be a thorn in his side. He cannot accept a humanism that doesn't need god. For some reason he just can't accept that belief is not a precondition for a good, meaningful life . Unfortunately for him, both the hypotheses that only people with religious values can be good an that true humanism needs a religious component have long been rebuked by real scientists. In fact, it is the other way round: All serious studies about altruism come to the conclusion that atheists are actually the least likely to do something evil among all humans - though they're not incapable of course, and the difference is not very significant. And Evolutionary Humanism, having no use for god, is the most peaceful, humane form of humanism ever to exist (because religious humanisms still often have the habit of excluding non-Christians). I've seen at least five more examples like this on the first 50 pages of the book, where he just redefines terms so that they fit into his quasi-religious views. A man like that can teach us nothing but how gullible people are towards men that sound and act like they are scientists, but really are metaphysical preachers abusing scientific language. He is basically the new Deepak Chopra.
