@@BrutusMaximusAurelius the alternative is that no money would flow into the coffers of the Cuban military, which controls all tourism and foreign trade on the island. If there is no person or entity you would hesitate to do business with, then at least you're consistent. But if, like most people, you can point to dictatorships, organizations and people you wouldn't deal with on moral grounds, then I have a hard time reconciling tjat. You can tell yourself you're doing the Cuban people a favor, but I suspect that logic is more comforting to you than to most of them.

Which wouldn’t happen anyway, because most cigars (would) go to China who don’t give a f*ck about their people either. So yes, I’m perfectly fine with buying Cuban cigars, knowing at least a fraction flows back to the people. I respect your stance, but unfortunately that’s not how the world works.

​@@BrutusMaximusAurelius you assume that the only choices here are buying Cuban cigars from the regime and not buying cigars at all. That's not how the world works, though. You have other options. You're welcome to seek out Cuban cigars that were stolen from factories so that all your money goes to an ordinary Cuban. You're welcome to spend a fraction on non-Cuban cigars and use the remainder to pay for a Cuban's monthly cell phone bill, connecting them to the outside world (at least for as long as the regime allows it). You could buy non-Cuban brands and, if you must consume Cuban goods, buy them from some of the entrepreneurs who operate in what limited space the regime allows for that sort of thing instead of opting to engage with the state's tobacco monopoly. Instead you want to comfort yourself with the thought that there's something righteous - charitable, even - about smoking Habanos products. Whatever works for you, I guess.

I'm 56 and have suffered for years with addiction, anxiety and severe ptsd, I got my panic attacks under control myself years ago and they have come back with a vengeance, I'm constantly trying to take full breaths but can't get the full satisfying breath out, it's absolutely crippling me, i live in Germany. I always admire those who beat their addiction. Knowing it's possible to fix your life knowing there's people out there that have done what I thought was impossible gives me hope I will make it through as well. Those who share their experiences don't know how much it helps when you're about to give up, it gives you the strength knowing somone who actully know what it's like to go through this tell you it's possible, it's not the same somone telling you you can do it when they have no idea what it's like, but hearing somone who knows what it's like that helps a lot since you understand it firsthand and made it out gives so much hope. so thanks for sharing.
