I used an old ssf dell 9010 i7 pc with 16Gig of RAM i got off a local craiglist seller for 300$ca hooked up a WD book 8tb external HDD to it and a 1gb ssd internal hdd for the OS, the main OS is OpenMediaServer and i run my media streamer(jellyfin) and all my Arr apps through docker compose along with home assistant, SWAG for getting my free SSL cert and reverse proxies for the apps that are open to the outside net. phototropism for all my family photos and I only have maxed the system to about 45% of its capability all compartmentalized. If its your first time I def recommend going this route, even the older 3770 i7 chip can handle anything you throw at it with ease and the cost is not that much to other solutions, compared to what you are getting. it might be over kill for just HA but trust me you wont just be running HA once you get in to self hosting.

I got one of those SMLight SLZB-06, however it arrived defective, wouldnt connect to my network. Got power over the POE port but no connection. Logged a support ticket, sent some logs and got a replacement. Funnily enough got the replacement and it is also defective, still no network connection, re-flashed a few times, if I set a static IP it says it is connected on the web portal (Connect via SLZB AP), but the port doesnt blink, I cant access it from the static IP I set and nothing on my router devices page either. Support now is saying it is possibly my network at fault as unlikely I got 2 defective devices. I shared some videos but no response now, guess that's 45$ down the drain. I searched online, quite a few folks with similar issues. I have a UZG-01 that works fine with POE, no issues at all, it however uses the P7 chip, there are still some quirks there. If anyone wants POE coordinator, that is what I will recommend for now and be vary with this SMLight, I know a few youtubers have given it the green light but my experience havent been great at all!

Actually, I prefer Zigbee bulbs *not* being repeaters, because if they are powered off via an upstream switch then the mesh is disrupted. 24:34 I would recommend against rechargeable AAA batteries for zigbee stuff. Rechargeable AAA's have a nominal voltage of about 1.2V and alkaline AAA's have a nominal voltage of 1.5V. The lower voltage can cause problems with some devices. This voltage difference is the reason you often see "do not use with rechargeable batteries" written on some things. One problem I had was with a Zigbee radiator valve. The device detected the lower voltage as "low battery" and constantly gave me a lower power warning. When i put a regular alkaline battery in those problems went away.
@digiblurDIY3 дні тому
I haven't seen that just yet. I would agree on like a water valve that has 4 batteries. Quite a drop in voltage. In talking with ThirdReality they agreed on the batteries and just stated it would show the lower battery percent for a while then drop down like normal. Ikea actually recommends a 1.2v rechargeable battery in their sensors which is awesome to see.
@The_Mup3 дні тому
@@digiblurDIY It probably depends on the device. In the case of the radiator valve I had it would only last about 2 weeks on rechargeable's because the voltage on the rechargeables would drop too low. When i put alkalines in there the battery life is about a year.

There are 1.5V batteries with inbuilt USB-C. I use them in all my AA-compatible low power devices, including Zigbee sensors. AAA are crap, AA - decent.
