Thanks, I already have a z50 and all Nikon’s DX Z lenses to use with it. But i’m thinking of buying this Z30 as a more compact every day carry option. I’ve been extremely pleased with the raw image quality out of these. I too wish the mid range zoom option was faster, but I actually find it quite sharp and free of vignetting or ghosting.

I really like your videos. Thankfully you are the one who dedicates one entire video for photography where as other reviewers give more priority to video (my opinion though). I am thinking of buying a new camera soon, do you feel this is still the best camera to have in 2024 or if there's any alternative to look for.

Hi Maarten. Thanks for the channel and your nice reviews. Is it still worth buying a used RP or is it better to look at newer crop cameras (R10, X-10S/20S)? No specific tasks, general family/travel photography (start with kit lenses, primes in case of RP). Been mostly using the phone for the last few years, but would like to get back to cameras (and trying FF looks tempting). Thanks.

Can you make a video on preference setting for video? I currently have a z30 and am thinking to use it for video? Would you recommend this?
@MaartenHeilbron13 днів тому
As I returned the camera to Nikon after the review, I'm not in a position to do that. While it might not be my first choice for video production, it should be fine. I generally recommend that you use the highest quailty settings, shutter duration of 1/60 and the lowest possible ISO - underexpose slightly (about 1 stop). Do a custom white balance using a gray (or white) card and get as many of your colour adjustments done in camera to avoid doing them in post where the low bit rate will otherwise create artifacts as you make more than the most minor adjustments. Hope this helps.

It's very much the opposite in Japan. Most young couples, and parents of all ages have a relatively nice camera for special days out. Even many high school students have taken up an interest in photography. There is in fact a sharp decrease in smart phone use in that age group after seeing siblings and parents buried face first in their phones for the better part of the last decade.

Interesting, thanks for sharing this observation.

Hi Martin! Fine video. Maybe you can help me decide. Lumix GX850 or GM1? The GX850 looks great, but I'll rarely use 4K video, and I have large hands. I'm using an Olympus E-PL6, which is handy. And have a variety of M43 lenses. What would you choose as a used purchase? Thank you.
@MaartenHeilbron14 днів тому
Thanks for your kind words, I think it's best if you can hold each in your hand to determine whether they're suitable. I would not let a feature that I'm not going to use influence my decision, unless there was a large price impact.

I have 2 record settings instead of 3 (25p 50M and 50p 50M) did this change with the 3.21 firmware update?
@MaartenHeilbron16 днів тому
It did not. I no longer have an A6000 to check, but the 25/50 settings are based on the mains frequency in your region, unless the camera now has a way to change from PAL to NTSC (which has the 2/430/60 settings).

I guess my comment disappeared… Thanks for your review! Would you recommend the z30 for (point-and-shoot like) photography on my bike rides (I often stop when I see something beautiful 😊) instead of my heavy Z6? (I’m enthusiastic amateur with years of experience) Or is the camera of my iPhone 13 Pro almost as good as the Z30 with kit lens? I always wanted the Z50 for that but I could now get the Z30 kit for 600€ on Amazon and it should be smaller I guess …
@MaartenHeilbron18 днів тому
Well, both can be part of a kit to save the images you like. If the phone suits your purposes, then it's a good choice for point and shoot images. Then for pictures when your standards are higher, or you wish to exert more control over the exposure, the Z30 or Z50 will give you the flexibilty and capabilty you'll need. Thanks for your kind words, hope this helps.

I believe that you are using proper terminology describing the lens in use as "my sample". Rather than calling it "my copy," usually used by other reviewers. We own production SAMPLES made by official manufacturer. Often, the "copy" means "fake." Like "Rolex" for $35.. Thank you for your excellent review.
@MaartenHeilbron18 днів тому
I'm sorry that my choice of terminology upset you. I understand your comments and will consider those in the future. That said, I don't think that there's any confusion that might arise from my use of the word "copy" in this video. Thanks for commenting.
@Svidge_123_18 днів тому
@MaartenHeilbron oh, I'm sorry... but actually, I praised the way you described perfectly possible discrepancy during production as "in case of my sample." I will edit my comment, so my point of appreciation for using proper termin should be more obvious. Thank you for your kind reply.

I am in doubt whether to take the Z30 or the R50, what do you recommend? Did you feel the lack of AVF on the Z30? Thank you
@MaartenHeilbron23 дні тому
In my experience, the use of a viewfinder is a very personal decision - many who are familiar with phone cameras, and are used to using the LCD screen don't miss the viewfinder. Personally, I find it helps to stabilize the camera and the shot, doesn't wash out in bright light and helps me to compose without distraction.
@MikeAdams4926 днів тому
Excellent video. Thank you. I have had my S20 a couple of weeks and have watched a lot of videos and have read the manual a number of times. So far I have encountered a number of issues that I hope, possibly with assistance, to overcome. First, my photos don't load with my cable so I need to insert the chip. Second, there is no exposure compensation method that I can find. Best I can do is determine the auto recommendation and then adjust in manual. Some experimentation may be helpful. Third, raw RAF files aren't accepted by Photoshop Elements and the program says that the S20 is not a compatible camera.
@MaartenHeilbron23 дні тому
Hard to troubleshoot a cable issue - I recommend using the cable included with the camera and using a port on the computer directly. Otherwise, I always insert the card to transfer photos. The manual's explanation of exposure compensation (page 107) works for me. Note that EC is only available when using one of the auto exposure modes. You may need an upgraded version of the app, possibly your version dates from before the release of the camera.
