Germany first lured and then kidnapped Ukrainians when the German workforce was decimated by WW2. They were called Osterbeiters (Eastern Workers) who were essentially enslaved by Germans to work in homes and factories. When those folks tried to go home afterwards, their own country turned on them as traitors and disallowed their repatriation. So Ukraine has been a fubar mess for a very long time. Just the kind of place a world superpower can easily control. Ahem.

Really apprecriate the pointing out of the realistic historic german responsibility, a topic that is completely missing in 99,9% of the mediaspace. Never heard this precise words before Timothy Snyder. Geopolitcal speaking, Germany is just a natural ally with Russia, no excuse, but an explanation for many things german government does.

Just shut the fuck up. We are not responsible for anything in ukraine. The US putsched their puppets Into power there and started to drag the country Into NATO. Everyone knew that russia would not accept it. The US preppped ukraine for this war and provocated it. The, even Held NATO exercises IN ukraine.
@alyonagumeniuk13502 місяці тому
He makes not the point of Nato, but on the history moments. Germans troops totally bombed my native city, Zhytomyr. It was 1100 y.o. No architecture was left. Village of my granny was occupied by Nazzi. My great-uncle was taken by force to work in Germany and then killed. He was just 17. And these stories are endless. But what always shocked me, whenever I talked to Germans, they never knew anything about Ukrainian territories under Nazzi, about Baby Yar, etc.
@martinschulze53992 місяці тому
@@alyonagumeniuk1350 we know about that, at least the informed ones. There is not a single week without the 9999million-st repetition about some NAZI documentary. And I was clearly talking about the modern geopolitics. I did not participate in the 1930/40s therefore I wont apologize or something, nor do I defend it. In fact, I think it was even strategically a big mistake of the former Germans to act like this. For today's world NATO is clearly, on a overarching geopolitical level, the aggressor and Russia responds as they have claimed they would be, in the end they dont want the US to penetrate into their neighborhood for many reasons. For Ukraine ... I dont think they had much choice. The Ukraine as a battlefield with the Russians was described in Brezenzenskis book "the grand chessboard" as far back as 1998. There he (advisor to US presidents) described the geopolitical plan for the US for the next decades and the 'why'. They dont want western Europe and Russia to become allied as this would threaten their position #1 as superpower. And how the US behaves today is exactly matching this description. Putin has spoken about that book after he started invading Ukraine too by the way when he was justifying of what the hell is he doing there. Now, Russia might have a range of other interests in Ukraine too besides just fighting off the US. Like grabbing resources and geopolitical important areas. No doubt. Our media here in Germany is full of NATO propaganda now. Sounds very much like they actually WANT war with Russia. Not sure if this is preparation or just fear spreading to get us saying 'yes' to much more defense spending such that some people in certain industries fill their pockets with tax payers money. Im certainly wont fight Russians and dont see any reason to do so. But I will buy arms and shoot everyone in the head who attempts to pull me into service. While Putin might be a representative of a criminal oligarchy, I just cant other than to see that our 'philanthropists' (=western oligarchs), Industrials, US Neoconservatives and bureaucrats act actually very much like the same, if not even worse.
@liheng415010 місяців тому
It is the all the fault of US because they still have not agreed to a WW2 peace agreement with Germany - the US military can any time they find an excuse to take over Germany - hence Germany has to dance to their tune

Slava Ukraini. My wish would be for every German to listen to this talk. Especially at this moment in time. Pair this with Zelensky's interview with Time Magazine, where he was asked if what has happened in Ukraine's history has hardened them. Zelensky's response: Some people might say it hardened us. But I think it took away so much of Ukraine’s ability to develop,” “It was one blow after another, the hardest kind. How does that harden us? People barely survived. Hunger broke them. It broke their psyches....

This good Man has been for YEARS so articulately explaining how the russians replaced the history of the countries they colonized to suite their imperialistic goals, and nobody took his warnings seriously. Today we witness the consequences. Only a few countries like Poland and the Baltics trio, that had experienced the true face of russian "liberation" after WWII, believed Ukraine.

Evil is Babel because it the shortcut to character that we all take, I recommend taking the long way to figure out the world for yourself to fully flesh out the world and be and offer the unique perspective to life that you where born to play. Being the salt of the world, not sink down to its ease and banality but to be your own hero, and in it to offer others what they could truly be.

Great speaker but this talk fell on deaf ears. Sadly, politicians don't listen to academics. Perhaps that's why they keep making the same mistakes. It's very shameful that Germany CONTINUES to drags its feet over aid to Ukraine DESPITE the fact that it changed its constitution so that it can fight wars outside Germany again. At least SOME Germans voted with their feet over the tanks.

The sheer amount of approving and rejoicing comments of ordinary Russians under videos of the atrocities committed against civilians in Ukraine were no less a shock for Ukrainians than the war itself. We have somehow got used to the war, but the realization of who we have been living next to all this time, without even knowing it, is still terrifying. Those creatures call themselves our brothers. Imagine what they would do to you who they call their enemies if you let them.
