Well made low angle starting wedges are almost impossible to locate. I’m trying to make mine from heavy truck leaf springs. Yours looks amazing.

No tempering required?
@wolfvalleyforge2204Місяць тому
Hey there! These are actually hardened and tempered. I soften around the top of the wedge to avoid it from chipping, but the bit is hardened so that it will hold up to knocks and the occasional rock.😃

Informative video Thanks Ike. What kind of tree and love the draft horse, and the dog! Paul
@wolfvalleyforge22042 місяці тому
Thank you so much for watching and commenting, Mr. Paul! The tree was a Sweet Gum. One thing we have here in abundance is Sweet Gum trees, which are mostly good for growing up in fence rows and giving you the good practice for felling.😄

Interesting to see how bevel makes such a difference to square a log. It makes me appreciate how people learned to work wood to for useful purposes.Its like the master ,he wore our several axes to get me where I'm at now.😊

Really awesome project! Enjoyed the video. Dugouts are awesome, I think I read somewhere that natives and mountain men would submerge the dugouts underwater if they needed to be stirred for long period of time, like winter. Apparently they would last for years and years!

So, with these fancy axes and other very sharp tools to accomplish this. How did the Native American cultures accomplish this type of canoe with much less similar tools at their disposal? Not very impressive when you take this into account!
@wolfvalleyforge22046 місяців тому
@davechavezjr5399 The work of the Native Americans and all of the folks who blazed the trails and pioneered this country truly are amazing! I imagine they would have built many of their own tools. Very amazing, knowledged people out there! And while I did build these adze and round knife that I used for this canoe as well (part of the fun of the challenge!), I know they didn't have the same propane forge and power tools for sharpening that I do today. Thank you for watching!

Very cool! We're currently living in a 768 square foot home made in the 30's out of spare railroad lumber. There's a house down the hill, the original one on the ranch, made in the late 1800's of dimentional sawmill lumber. We've also done our cabin on our own property, not year round, which is only 199 square feet plus a decent sized loft. It makes families closer. 😉

Bought my first axe from Ike from an eBay seller (camp axe) and he just finished my timber pup and both pieces are works of art. The camp axe is a performer and I’ve yet to get out and use my timber pup but looking forward taking it with me when we backpack later this year. This guy is legit
