Welcome viewers to what IS one of the best videos on UKposts ever. UKposts has many videos and most are absolute mindless fluff really. THIS VIDEO however is an example of what can be best about the internet and UKposts. An absolute essential, educational video that everybody who goes out and about should watch and digest. Hats off to you man for this definitely ranks as one of the best videos on UKposts. For this video alone you should be given hero status and some kind of award/recognition. Of all the videos, in all the world, every human should be thankful that YOU Mr Hidden Valley Bushcraft are alive and well and are willing to teach the rest of us VITAL, ESSENTIAL LIFESAVING knowledge like this. On behalf of all humans THANK YOU. 🖖🏻 😉 🏴 🇬🇧

A "bushcraft expert" who can barely use a knife? I think this guy realized he was close to being outed as a sham, and ran for the hills.
@RyanR-ty2nw4 дні тому
Hmm... Why didn't you show us how to carve that thing? Also... Have you ever tried to drink from a cup with a half inch thick, squared off rim? Axe and knife work is one of the most fundamental of bushcraft skills, this is a bushcraft channel, and you style yourself as a bushcraft expert. I'm very, very dubious, sir.

Great vid, I'm going to be honest, but I certainly wouldn't want you to read this in a negative light 👍 At first, I was intrigued with your channel, watched a couple of vids, kind of thought they felt a bit 'too sure of yourself' HOWEVER! Having watched a couple more, I've realised you are full of information and experience, and it turns out I'm very appreciative of your efforts of your content. In short, thank you for sharing, it's proven very beneficial, atleast to myself, thank you 😀👍P.S. I shall now watch more of your vids 👍

Is Kelly Kettle considered closed fire? I am asking in case of a fire ban is it still allowed?

Oil…… you might want to suggest using a non-toxic food safe oil that doesn’t go rancid. The oils you can buy to treat your kitchen cooking spoons does the trick very nicely.

My 1st ever spoon was dead flat, I was really pleased with it until I tried to use it 😂. The next time I carved the bowl at an angle and this made it a great soup spoon or small ladle, but again it was a little awkward to use. It was only when I finally learned to put a crank in it where the handle meets the bowl that I was truly happy that I’d made an ergonomic usable general purpose spoon. 🙂
@robg5219 днів тому
You opening statement, “headspace” totally agree, sat in the back garden in the evening after finishing off all the chores, Sit down and carve, I videoed myself carving a spoon the other day and was completely oblivious of the noise from the neighbours until I watched the video back.

Ex RGJ here. I put the roll mat inside the main compartment loosely rolled. It adds shape to the pack and the plus point is you now have an insulated coolbag too. Also. I don't have my sleeping bag in a stuff sack, it goes inside my bivvibag and that goes inside the main compartment. Negates the need for an extra waterproof bag

The Trangia is my stove of choice. Works really well when you use the correct fuel. I made my own wind shield out of aluminium beer cans. Works well even in wind. Takes a bit longer than my gas stove but I'm camping, not racing.

I'm 72 and from the US. I use a medium Alice pack. I suffer spinal stenosis and my legs are dieing. I pack light as I can while still taking what I need. For sleep that's just a "ranger roll" made up of a surplus poncho, a reflective blanket and a woobie.

Genuine question and no offence intended. Do you deliberately show low end cheap kit to appeal to a particular demographic? If so then you’re doing well as it will of course all work at some level, but if you’re trying to show the best or even better then we need to talk kit.
@TinaDaisyAdair16 днів тому
Thank you so much for making these videos. They are clear and easy to follow. I learned some of the knots you explained how to do - the evenk knot and the tensioner knot. I also use the Prussian loop knot to keep my tarp taut on the ridge line . This meant that I did my first hammock and tarp camp a couple of days ago with confidence that I wouldn’t have to bail out because I couldn’t hang the tarp or hammock. I loved it so much I went out again a day later. I’m very grateful for your concise conveyance on everything wild camping, so have subscribed to your channel so I can learn more from your tutorials. Also, I adore your dog 🐕 ❤❤❤❤

You could add a few more grommets along the edges to make that more secure. I have two 10'x10' nylon tarps. One has only 8 attachment points and the other has 19. I use tarp clips when im using the tarp with8 attachment points if I need more but im considering adding more grommets. I use a 6'x8' poly tarp with 8 attachment points as an emergency tarp. I pitch it in a Holden configuration usually. Its big enough for me and my gear. I'm alone so thats sufficient. The 5'x7' tarps are a bit small as far as I'm concerned.

My wife died of cancer almost four years ago. I'm alone now at 72 years old. Lonely and severely depressed. She and I both had cancer at the same time. The year after she died I had to fight the cancer on my own. I'm cancer free now but the depression is taking its toll on me. Dec 20 of 2023 a young man hit my car and totaled it. I can't afford another so I can't get out to the bush. I use my back yard these days. Neighbors probably think I'm nuts but who cares as long as I'm not bothering them and it helps control the depression and anxiety. It allows me to keep my hand in. It's what I can do now. Better than nothing to help with PTSD from Vietnam. I'd probably go crazy, maybe I have already, without some form of escape from the nightmares, loneliness and depression .

I did struggle with Nav. The best thing I ever got taught was to properly read contours. I went from struggling to complete a navex by day to going for a night nav and not needing to touch my compass more than twice.

it might sound a bit overkill, but as a forager, homesteader and in general a person who grew up and lives in nature, I follow the general rule of thumb that unless I know a plant, I assume it's poisonous. This way I avoided many injuries for me and my family

For this gear I decided to spend for robustness, quality and lightweight. I went with the Karrimor SF 45 w/ rocket pouches, a S2S thermo liner (summer bag + winter liner), a -12 UGQ quilt w/ trimmings on a Thermarest Xtherm pad inside the Goretex bivy from the US MSS and the Pathfinder cookset plus.

Just learn a few of those origami shapes. One open one, one that you can modify the open one into in 30s so that it handles wind. Way faster to learn than a few new knots.

Might want to drill the hole for the hammer head first while you have the whole log to help you hold things while you drill the hole. Once you are happy with the handle hole cut the hammer out of the log.
