This guy bluffed/lied ISlamic empire actually destroyed science/knowledge in middle east (which flourished because of trade with India), it is just that the decaying/vanquished Persian civilization was still doing some good enough work even after conversion to ISlam, again thanks to Indians (whom Arabs were now destroying but at the same time through Arabs, the Persian neo-converts were studying/translating and sometimes adding a little bit). Once Persia was completely degraded whole empire was back to -1.
