Were you in a plane running Meshtastic anywhere near Northants today? There was a user SPD1 (SimonD (near i360)) who made contact with my nodes via the public channel today, but I wasn't around to talk back. I'm just wondering if it is you?

Hello. Could an electronic warfare device operating in standby mode be the source of the mysterious signal? From the comments I understand that there is an airport near you. Electronic warfare equipment may clog the channel with interference after detecting your packet.

maybe but it could be anything really...

95% of the time when the power goes out the Cell Towers work for at least 2 more days. What devices support meshtastic plus a cell phone connection at the same time?
@strontiumstargazer10325 днів тому
Hello Simon, I have watched several reviews of this radio and all I’ve really heard is a lot of interference. Is this what it’s all about?
@fotografm19 днів тому
What you hear depends on what antenna you connect to it and where it is located. The built-in whip antenna works fine for me when outdoors.
@strontiumstargazer10319 днів тому
@@fotografm thanks for reply and advice. Why don’t reviewers review these radios with the right antennas and set up so we as viewers and potential buyers get to hear some broadcasters rather than loads of hissing and interference.

I can't get mine to connect to my home network via my WiFi router. I thought I would have been able to do this and then connect in to my network via WiFi from the Meshtastic App. Bluetooth isn't good enough here.
@OH2023-cj9if29 днів тому
I am using a Heltec V3, although it states it will connect on WiFi, it just doesn't. Then I have to refresh to get back in again via Bluetooth.

@fotografm19 днів тому
Not yet !
@adammoss5284Місяць тому
One recommendation. Try not to disconnect the UFL/IPX socket too much. I would suggest putting an sma pigtail on the heltec and leaving we’ll be. Had a connector go intermittent today narrowed it down to wear and tear on the ipx plug. The sockets thankfully seem okay so far. The SMA at least will take more connecting and disconnecting. I’d say also having seen the heatshrinked coils on coax they are variable performance at best and often not resonant at the signal frequency. Good luck Simon with the experiments and thanks for sharing the video. 73 if that applies 👋

Great informative video, thanks, Simon. About that swr kink at 870MHz, has anyone worked out why is that? I also get the same kink on my nanoVNA-H and its annoying when tuning antennas. It seems like a calibration issue, but recalibration doesn't solve it.

Does the length of the cable connecting to your outside antenna made much difference?

It makes a huge difference ! Some cables are very lossy indeed. I always mount the antenna direct to the node and have a long USB cable instead.

Good build, i admire your "Brain Over Brawn" calculating the frequency to avoid cuts. I only purchased my nanoVNA to check my Meshtastic and long wire HF antenna (SWR and Smith) so interesting to see other uses watching your videos. I also purchased a tinySA which due to receiving other equipment I haven't had much time to get to grips with it yet, so if you have any real world demos would be great.

If you take the case apart youll see the antenna is grounded to the casing of the GPS. The interesting thing with this antenna is it doesnt seem too sensitive to position, which might be useful on this kind of device. Also worth trying it with a real world scenario - the VNA isnt definitive!

I got similar results when testing the antenna. However there is a mesh metal tape from the antenna GND going to the board GND which at least provides a little reference plane.

@BryanPetiferМісяць тому
Hi Simon I can't help identify your mystery signal, not heard in Caterham I have been looking for a more serious source of continuous interference which is using 869.525 which others have reported and I find I can see traces of it almost everywhere. This is particularly annoying as it raises my noise floor on Meshtastic at home to around -115 rssi so I see nothing reported below that level. When walking around I have seen that narrower band continuous signal on your display which is within the bandwidth occupied by Meshtastic just a bit lower than 525.I do't kow what that is either hihi. It seems Meshtastic is doomed to failure in this country with such high levels of use of 525. Thanks for your interesting videos keep up the good work
@fotografmМісяць тому
Thanks for your comments Bryan. Yes the band is very crowded and that's the only portion that supports the higher power.

I ordered it on the Lily website and waited 5 or 6 weeks. Seemed to be the safest option.
