Great comment, here's my take: While Reload does have the best English singer, I still wasn't able to decipher most of the main lyrics and none of the "phone compressed" ones ingame even with the music slider louder than the others, so they didn't really do all that much for me. I do agree that the lyrics are wonderful, and they're one of the few comprehensive ones we've got from this series (looking at you "three dots connect to rectangles"). But they've only ever registered for me after looking them up. That said, I do still love the vocals here. While the French was a fun and tacky sample they added in, the singer now actually goes along with the main melody. I could go so-so on the main vocals, but the phone compressed ones are fantastic and really add to the rythm. I actually do like that the audio is a little crunchy. It sounds like it came from a crappily burned CD or a Limewire torrented mp3 file right out of the 2000s, adding a lot to the nostalgia factor I mainly listen to this version for. While I like the Reload version more, I do definitely think this version has it's merits as a more cheesy 2000s nostalgia song.
