Nikolay Smirnov poses a tremendously important issue for students' consideration: How much importance needs to be placed in parametric, fabrication-based and AI-based design when there is an increasingly grave issue of lack of affordable housing that strikes everyone, and which students will have to face themselves eventually in all likelihood. We need to return to basics, learning efficiency, beauty and seriousness of proposals. Construction is a relentlessly conservatives industry, and we designers need to learn to do more with less. Hopefully we can quantify well-being to entice investors. We have the tools and institutions in place to build and design them correctly, avoiding the negative effects of communist architecture.
