Falcon also spawned the Fairlane intermediate ('62 launch) and short-lived Mercury Meteor, both on stretched Falcon chassis. My folks bought a chestnut '63 Fairlane; I loved and still miss it.

Really rare cars these days, probably because so many have been converted to a Trans Am, since for so many years that's what most collectors wanted.

Absolutely not forgotten, this was the best of the second generation, especially '70-'71. 1970 (year i was Born) is not coincidentally the best year of muscle cars across the board. '72-'72 isn't bad either but those had reduced compression and the beginning of emissions restrictions.

Meh, you got the Lincoln and Avanti right, but that's it. There were too many other great cars that beat the other 3 by a mile. I get it, it's the list of your favorite top five.

Those low horsepower quotes kept the insurance for a young American male at least almost affordable!?, close to a hundred a month!, back then!😮😊😢❤

15 seconds is not muscle car numbers in a 1/4 mile. There were no real muscle cars in the 80's. I had an 84 in High School. Had the opportunity to buy a white 87 with T tops that was well maintained around 97, wish I had bought it and stored it. The 87 Monte Carlo SS is my all time favorite car, but my 2022 Silverado with a little 5.3 would gap a stock Monte Carlo SS. Who knew 35 years later a 4 door 4x4 truck would outperform 90% of the sports cars from the 80s and early 90s. All the early 70's muscle cars would gap the Monte Carlo SS

I bought a '72 red formula 350 summer of '79. It came with a junkyard receipt for the replacement engine, said: '73 pontiac 400. A year later, while replacing the fuel pump I discovered it was a 455. To this day, I think it may have been a SD. At 6 K rpms it still had torque. Paid $300 for it!

As far as Im concerned, the 70.5-73 Firebird is EASILY the best looking Pontiac, though the 73-77 LeMans/GTO/Grand Prix give it a solid run for its money.

Had a high school buddy who bought a used 1971 or 72 Formula 455 around 1974. That car was really impressive. Great power (torque) and it handled better than pretty much any muscle car of that era. I had a 1970 Mach 1 351 and the Firebird beat my Mustang in pretty much every way imaginable. Out of curiosity I occasionally check the used market for these cars and rarely do I find one. Decent examples seem to be extremely rare especially given how many were produced.
