The problem I’ve had with friction fit hardwood boxes is the fit will change over the year even if it’s perfect when cut. It can be loose in the summer and too tight to open in the winter. Or vice versa. Because of this I now cut them loose and add magnets.

The jig for the 30° lines alone was more precise wood working than ive done in my life...

In the time that it took you to do all of that jig making, you could have leaned more heavily on your hand tools and traditional techniques. I"m not a hand tool evangelist, and I do work in a hybrid shop (that's heavy on hand tool usage). It's a nice cabinet, sure. But edge tools and scrapers can do all of the things you did with machines. Using a CNC router to do all of this unnecessary jig making is way overkill,. and now you have to store all of those templates.

@weberwoodshop - apologies if this has been asked/answered, but I haven't seen reference to it in the comments yet. You referenced the template router bits you used for cutting out the holes to try saving some weight. Do you happen to have links to those bits? I believe I found what you were referencing, but just wanted to confirm. Also, of course your video was sped up, but did you have any issue taking that large of a bite with the router bit? Just go slower, I am guessing.

You are a true artist the time and effort and the result is insane. However I am pretty sure you don’t smoke cigars or consulted one. The sponge thing is rarely used these days. And could have done with a modern day solution. Either made it to hold an electronic dispenser or something fancy for the papered moist dispenser. Anyway just a side note on a true work of art. I would love to add this box to my collection :)
